I just saw the thread that is now 4 pages as to the worst player you've witness get a HIO.  How about any player getting one?

I had one on a par 3 course almost 40 years ago and that is it.....  I've played with players who've holed shots from the fairway and I have a few times too......  Went to a PGA event and as I walked to the par 3 15th saw one.  Had a group behind us once get one (did not see, just heard it).......

However I've never played in a group where anyone I've played with has had a hole in one......  Maybe I'm just bad luck to play with.

Am I an anomaly here?

I've never gotten a hole in one, or played with anyone who's gotten one.  I've been myself, and have seen others stick it to about a foot away but that's about it.  I once heard a group behind me during a scramble get a hole in one on the hole I was winning for closest to the pin.  The guy who got the hole in one said later he's only been out golfing a few times in his life.....

I think a lot of golfers have not been in a group that had an Ace.

I have 3 Aces and saw 1 Ace from another.

It does seem a little odd that you haven’t seen one in 40 years.  That’s a lot of opportunities missed.

I’ve probably seen a dozen in 25 years, including my own 4.  My husband has 4, I’ve seen my brother get 2 and there have been a few from folks who just joined us on the first tee.

I forecaddied for a group that had one on the 8th hole at Valhalla in 1998. The guy who made the ace was pretty much a hack.

I've not had one; I've not played with anyone who had one (while we played); and I've not witnessed one since then.

Since May 2014, I've played nearly 500 rounds. During that time, the two closest-to-an-ace shots I've seen both occurred on the same day on the same hole—my playing partners hit it to 1" on the 8th hole at Morris Williams in Austin.

Witnessed two, made one. Once was when I was about 16 and working in the golf shop. The insurance company hired  a witness for the hole in one prize (I think it was a dodge stealth?). They didnít show so looking at a full day of an Am/pm shotgun and I was designated to fill in, I was dreading the next 12 hours when god bless Jim Flood hitting 3rd in the first group jarred it. Prize was only for the first HIO so in I went.

Closing in on an estimated 3,000 18-hole rounds played. Nope, never seen one. Closest was a group a few holes in front where we could see the green from a good distance away but did not see the shot. Just heard the yelling. Made it into the clubhouse in time to get a free drink so I guess I got that going for me.

I have witnessed 3. The first hole in one I saw was about 25 years ago. It was at a chip and putt and a kid of about 8 years old. He hit a shot about 2' high on a 75 yard hole and it rolled up and into the cup. The look on the kids face was priceless.
The closest I have been is a few inches. The closet I have been in the last few years was about 8" last year. Luckily I made the birdie putt.

Fortunately, or unfortunatelyódepending on how you look at itóIíve witnessed 6. I have never had one.

The most memorable one was 2 years ago. We were having a member match play tournament. I had to give 5 strokes to my opponent. We are on the third tee of a 190 par three. I am 1 up. I hit a great shot and stuff it to 2 feet. Iím stoked because Iím going to go potentially 2 up. My opponent blocks his tee shot to the right and it careens off a side hill and runs on to the green tracking for the hole. Sure enough, it goes in.

He goes on to shoot his career low against me. I shoot a 74 and he shoots a 76 and soundly beats me.

Later that year, I am playing with again. We are on the 6th hole which is a shorter par three. And sure enough, he dunks it again.

My regular foursome seems to have 1 a year these days, if not more. I have seen a total of 12 from groups I'm in plus the ones that I have.

To expand on a few of the ones I have seen or had

Mother's Day 3 years ago, playing with a good buddy, a girl who is now playing at a D1 school on a full ride and her dad and thin one that just trickles into the hole. Girl has zero reaction at all and goes to tee her ball up and start her PSR, her dad tells her she could at least say congrats since I just got a hole in one. She calmly turns, says, good job, then goes back to her own little world. My buddy looks at me and says "that's the worst shot I have ever seen, way to go, thanks for the drink".

Later that same year, 5th fairway reachable downhill par 5) during the first day of our club champ, buddy I happen to be playing with asks if I'm going to stick around to have a drink after the round. Told him "nope, I'm going to make it on 8 (short par 3 over water) and we can drink all day". Happened to 1 hop it into the hole and he just about tackles me on the tee. Calling your shot is always worth some style points.

Last year the same buddy who was with me for mine on 8, hits his shot on 8 with a back 9 start that went right into the sun and we lost it in the air, but knew it was tracking. He just tells us it went in, we calmly walk to the green, he picks his ball out of the hole, we all putt out and move on. Calmest hole in one I have ever seen or been a part of. Still very memorable with how calm everything was though the entire thing.

Playing with a younger guy at my club who we jokingly call my younger brother at a local muni in a long standing money game last year and one of the other guys in the group looks at him on the 1st tee and declares "you look like you're going to make a hole in one today". We get to 7 on this course which is about a 190 yard slightly uphill that he hits a shot that was just perfect as it left the club. Same guy who told him he was going to make it on the first tee, says "well, there it is" about 10 feet off the club. Bounces twice, backs up, and disappears. That was a heck of a lot of fun watching my "little brother" make his first ace and getting to celebrate with him after.

Let's " math " this ace thing out. The average AM odds are 12,500 to 1, assuming 4 chances per rd ( 4 par 3's ) it will take you 3,125 rds to get an ace. Thatʻs averaging 104 rds per yr at 30 yrs.
I would say vast majority of golfers won't even witness one, let alone get one. Or you could be like the wife and play a dozen times a year and get one 5 yrs before her old man does..... still SMH over that one.
Played 20+ yrs before witnessing first one, a guy in League bounced one off a wooden rail fence, then a sprinkler head and it carromed 40-50 ft across the green into the hole. He looked like he got caught with his hand in the cookie jar. LOL

Saw one a couple years ago on a league night. I was the only one that saw it go in. The player was adamant that it didn't go in the hole. I brought my phone along for when he found out.

WARNING - Profanity

That other ball close to the hole is mine and I hit it after he made the hole in one. Then I made the self depricating comment of "Well that one sucked compared to yours!" :)

Don't think not seeing one is that strange.

I've played mostly with 'cappers from 1 to 15 for a LOT of years and the only HIO I've seen in person is the one I've gotten.  :dntknw:
