Definitely the best looking SGI irons.

GI not SGI according to Ping brochure, Golf Mag and Golf Digest.

I think there are quite a few irons being called SGI that either have been called GI or should be called GI.  There seems to be a fine line on some models I have noticed.  Even some reviews have stated GI instead of SGI on a set or two I have looked at!

Nice looking irons though!  :)

How is distance control against G400 irons? I canít make up my mind between G700 or G400, what I love about G400 is that they stop on a dime and even come back a couple feet when going for the green. I fear G700 wonít have that... anyone with some answers about this?

Rick Shiels has his full review up and he addresses the issue. He had very low spin numbers on the launch monitor but quite the opposite response on the course review, pretty cool to see his experience.

I demo'd the g700's against my g400's, the 700's launched higher and spun more, no noticeable distance gain, that was with the AWT 2.0. Put the Nippon Modus Tour 105 shaft in and the launch went higher, spun even more and saw a significant distance gain.

I was able to hit them side by side on the range today for the first time today and was blown away by the 700's. Felt better, looked better and performed better. I have played the g400's since they have come out and really thought they were awesome. I was hitting the ball pretty good this morning. The poor strikes still really got out there and tended to stay on line a bit more than the 400's.

I look forward to getting the irons on the course sometime this week and I will let you know how they do into the green.

Wow man! Never thought Modus 105 would give you that much more performance! I love AWT 2.0 and always thought Modus 105 would fly lower! Havenít tried it though... after reading this Iím about to place my G700 order...

Modus 105 is constant weight, AWT is ascending weight, my fear is short irons may feel quite light with the modus, did you find this to be true?

I didn't notice any difference, but then again I honestly wasn't thinking about it. I hit the 9, PW and UW in my set very well. I've never played anything past a matching PW in a set so I am used to the same weight on a standard wedge set, usually 50/54/58 for me. Sorry, I really couldn't answer that for you. Defiantly get out and demo the irons first. AWT is a great shaft but the Nippons felt so much better to me.

I got to play 9 holes with my G700 irons today and found them to be longer than my Gmax irons and very forgiving.
My concern now is the wear and tear that these irons show.

i used a demo g700  7 iron on the course today in tough post winter turf conditions. I hit 11 shots with the 7 and was very impressed.  Great thru the turf and effortless to swing. I didnt see any wear on the 7 iron after the round.

I played 18 holes with mine yesterday. They are fantastic irons, but mine now look like the wear pictures above. There is something wrong with the finish; it just scratches right off. I did not pay this much for irons to have them look several years old after one round! I especially expect more from PING.

Yep, noticed same thing with i200s and started a thread about the hydropearl wear.  It's a shame because it looks so damn good when new.  Since it's solely cosmetic I suppose it's not the end of the world, and I can't imagine PING will be surprised nor do anything about it.  What can they do really?

I wouldn't think so, same/similar finish and wear since i20 irons, and it's cosmetic only

I got to play 9 holes with my G700 irons today and found them to be longer than my Gmax irons and very forgiving.
My concern now is the wear and tear that these irons show just have playing only 9 holes with them.
I have attached pictures of this and sent my concerns and pictures to Ping too.

Oh dear, and I just placed my order! Please follow up with Pings answer to this!
this was the biggest complaint in rick shiels review if you watch it the clubs looked like they had been used for a year after only a few rounds

Did watch it! As long as the finish goes away the same way as G400 Iím all in, it kinda goes from matte to somewhat chrome if I make sense, I just hope it donít affect the clubs performance on these G700

The iron's performance is stellar. Good feel, superb forgiveness. The distance is longer on all clubs, even the wedges. 5  iron in this set probably works better than a hybrid; about as long, similar forgiveness and better accuracy.

I saw that in his video too. Was hoping to hear otherwise from those in this forum. With the amount of testing that goes on before a product hits the shelves thereís no excuse to have these type of problems. Especially at this price point.

From the looks of the irons, it reminds me of the Callaway Apex finish issues a couple years ago.

I was thinking the same thing. Callaway eventually fixed the issue, or made the finish much better. Sounds like Ping isnít interested in doing that if this is the same finish on the i200ís and itís still an issue.

My fitter says the clubs are fine if cleaned regularly after use. If that proves false, iíll be going back to complain.

I am also planning to trial head covers (which seem weird and fiddly to me, as Iíve never even seen them before).

Overall, I just canít overlook the ballflight, distance, and forgiveness the G700 offers.

As an aside, am I the only one to worry itís almost cheating to suddenly start playing clubs this long and straight, when my buddies are used to me hitting all around the course?  I have no idea what to tell them when my play suddenly improves, as itís not like I can really take credit for it.
