I believe the S is a three piece, "Also announced is the new Project (s), a 3-piece Ionomer cover ball designed for slower swing speeds. Compression is lower than that of Project (a), and according to TaylorMade, offers the softest cover in its category."

Yes, I know it's a three piece ball but with the cover I am associating it with other 2 piece bells I play due to how it will handle around the green. I am hoping it does well from the tee on it's way to the green.

Let us know how they play!

They look similar, which ball do you prefer? Do you like the matte finish?

Stopped by the shop on the way home after work yesterday and noted a big, new stack of the Project s. Snagged them for the round at my club this Saturday. The sales guy said he likes them, that they feel soft. We have a "soft opening" at my CC this weekend. Robert Trent Jones Jr came out and rebuilt the greens, bunkers and practice facilities a while back and we are opening them up for play finally. I'm more excited than a fat kid locked in a donut shop.

I would love to give an on course report on these but here in south west Michigan, they called for another winter blast this weekend. So sick of this.

Played 18 with the S today - fantastic again. Love this ball.

Soft feel but firm distance, and a nice click on the putter.

Any greenside spin? Do they feel firm tour ball, softer; gamersoft or very soft like a supersoft?

I played one (s) for 18 holes today. Have to say long off all clubs but had some greenside check but still ran out a little. Very controllable. Very soft felt like a vice pro soft. Didnt have crazy back spin but stops in 5 ft normal iron shots. Even a 3 hybrid it stopped within 5 ft of the ballmark. For 25$ it blows away the dt trusoft and the titleist tour soft.

Mirrors my experience.

I played another 18 this weekend (second this week) with the S and again it amazed me...I can't love this ball enough.

I played the s today for the first time. Overall, I liked the ball - with one exception. It tended to balloon off the driver. Drives looked good but didn't go long and landed vertically down. Felt great off the irons. Certainly worth trying out, I think.

I played old Project (a) and a ProV this weekend. Couldn't tell them apart at all, maybe the ProV was a hair louder off the driver.

New project a has similar dimple pattern to the tp5 so it will be much better in the wind. Also project s has a higher flight so if you have a lower flight off of driver this ball will help big time. My 2 balls this year will be the project s and vice pro soft

I got good driver and long clubs distance, but my short irons were shorter. It was odd.
Here's Rick Shiels getting 303 yards out of TP5X off driver:
https://youtu.be/GCgdnRugOwg

And him getting 303 yards out of Project (a):
https://youtu.be/xLO2GfobOcQ

But it's weird that TP5 is about 8 yards shorter off the driver, but wedge distances are almost the same despite WAY more spin. Perhaps you guys were hitting into a slight breeze that was up say 100ft in the air but you didn't feel it?

He plays out of a hitting bay. As well, the ball felt "bouncy" off the face, kind of rubbery feeling. The "A" ball feels nothing like this.

if someone ever figured out the matte golf ball thing with a decent cover they could have the best green side ball ever. as even crappy balls seem to role slow. Has anyone else putter with a normal urethane ball right next to a matte ball? the matte makes a lot of noise as it roles. almost like it is sticky. they also, almost always come up short if putted the same.

Got in more action with the s. Certainly, it's short off the driver for me. On our last hole I hammered a drive down the middle. When it launched my son said, "Wow!" But, it went out about 200 and dropped out of the air. Weird. Very good with the irons, though. I did hit some good short irons into some greens and noticed that the s will hit, make a mark, then roll forward about 20 feet. It was consistent with that. I do still love the Project a, and want to try the new, revamped version. The a has been a tremendous sleeper in the golf ball industry, I think. And I'm not surprised to see a price hike on it this year - as this ball really should catch on. Perhaps the price hike is to cover the latest development work on it(?) It's great around the greens, nice off the irons, and all my monster drives have been with the a.

Another long-term observation of these balls, which is unfortunately a negative - they get marked up by wedges real easy.

One shot out of the sandtrap (maybe its my stroke) and they have a large gash down the side. I dont remember my B330's ever being marred this easily.

I am looking for an upgrade on my e6 softs.  Has anyone compared?  I tend to hit woods low, so I am hoping these might help a bit.

I finally played a full round with them. I dont know what is going on here in south west Michigan this year, but the greens have been like granite counter tops this spring. Usually they are soft and you can get anything to stop.  But this year I have used the E6, project(s) and the true soft.  They all seem to me anyway, very similar.  Good off the driver, distance and dispersion, but none of them have any stopping control.  It pains me to say, but since the greens around here are already harder than normal so come mid summer one can only guess how hard they will be.  So I am making the switch to urethane ti actually get something to bite.  If the greens were normal for this time of year, if the 3 I would like the TM the most, then the E6 and third, the DT true soft.

Played my first round yesterday testing the (s) and I love it (for the price). It was very long for me off the driver and I got a ton of rollout. I did not have the ballooning problem as the other poster mentioned. On the few chips and pitching around the ground it performed well. I hit one high forty yard flop and it stopped on a dime. I also hit a solid 5i with a low draw in the hit once on the green and stopped with a tiny bit of rollout. It impressed me because the greens were rock hard.... the only tiny negative was it was a tad squishy off the driver face but nothing that will stop me from playing it.

Once I go through the box I bought and the box of e6 I had leftover from last yr Iíll buy more for sure.

Any more feedback on this ball?  Can get them for $20 a dozen from GG right now, wondering how it compares to Vice Pro and Pro Soft.

Finally, tried a dozen. Haven't been on the course just practice. It has a nice soft feel to it for sure. Distance seems to be average. Not sure how they call this a distance ball. I am just curious how it does around the greens. It could be a good buy at 20. I paid 16 with a coupon from Academy Sports. Depending on the sun light, it has a nice yellow and then it sometimes has the weird project a (limeish) yellow come out. Is changing colors,  just a matte ball thing or a TM thing?
