Please don't take offense but $525 is not a good deal for these. Can't speak of quality because I don't know.

One could spend alot less and get a quality club - Maltby clubs and have them custom built.

Your right because you have tested or seen them lol

I bet if they said Ping, Titleist, Callaway etc on them they would "look" a lot better.
Probably not. There isn't a giant, mmc cavity back in existence that isn't ugly.

I guess it depends on how you choose clubs.

If I don't like how they look in the bag, I eliminate them from testing. Then it goes by look at address. Then ball flight. Then feel. And if there's a tie, it goes back to the look in the bag again and price.

Those wouldn't make first cut to be seen at address.

I get that bubba.  I don't care what the back looks like.  Address, feel, swing weight and ball flight.  I play to a 9 hdcp.  My other set of irons are blades.  18 Apex MB.

Score card and the ball won't care what back looks like

You don't think they are worth it because you don't value the brand.  That's fine, you are entitled to that.  If you compared them to Cobra F8 or another brand that was 899.  You hit these better and they feel better?  Then What?  You buy the more expensive clubs?  What about a used set of 714 Ap1?  Same price but less performance?   It's very interesting people's perception of brand.  Got to love marketing.

I purchased Apex MB over MP-18.  Looks and performance.  That's all that matters.  End of the day...These irons perform.  To me, I would have paid more.  They performed better than top name brands, for me.

And that's fair. I wouldn't rib you for using them, I just wouldn't do it myself.

To be honest, it'd probably be eliminated on stats alone before I even saw it, since I like 34-35* 7 irons.

These would be a smashing success if they were Titleist.  Sad but true.  Brand perception.  We all act like marketing doesn't influence us but it does

I don't believe in the marketing bs.  That's one of the reasons I play Maltby TEs (a known quality for some not all). And if I purchase a big name OEM, I buy a one or 2 year old model new - like Mizuno jpx ez forged for approx. $300 new.

Anyhoo, hope you hit the TAs long and straight.

Maltby makes great stuff.  I wouldn't be surprised if he designed these with his association to golfworks, which his a Dicks company.

I used to play TA 845m silverbacks, and v-31 evos before that. I always liked tommy armour. These....are....hideous. Bright colored badges look so cheap to me no matter what the brand is. I would always worry they would fall out and couldn't get replacements.

I actually think they look alright. Badges on cavity backs don't bother me on most. I do like blades to have a clean look though.

Reminds of the Wilson driver competition, where they kept harping on the fact the winning driver had to have 'visible technology' to catch potential buyers while on the shelf.

They could have cared less that the other driver performed better and sounded better.  The marketing people only cared about visible technology that had shelf appeal.

That is not how most of us around here look at at clubs.  The general public would probably go for it if the name recognition is there (which it may or may not be).

I wish they made them look more like the old ones with some game improvement built in.  If they work for you, then they are worth the price as in any other gear!!!  :)

Not to me.  I love the name Tommy Armour and those look cheap and gimmicky for my taste.  DICKS has tarnished the name.  They might be decent clubs, but the look is overdone IMO.  I hope they are better than they look.

So 4 weight ports would be better? Right on, I can dig that.

Just my opinion here.  No slams at anyone.  The red plastic is a turn off.  My irons are a bit too busy for my taste as well.

Interesting, the irons have a Ping-like notch above the heel to ease hosel bending, I suppose.

I had the 845s and 855s (black dot).  I thought the 855s irons were so classy looking . . .  Posted Image

I bet if they said Ping, Titleist, Callaway etc on them they would "look" a lot better.
It doesn't hurt. Looks like something Titleist would have followed up with after the 755 irons

They look different with Titleist and AP1 'stamped'
on them.   Could picture this iron in their lineup.

845's were my first 'real' iron set.  Badges, badges, we don't need no stinkin' badges.

These would be a smashing success if they were Titleist.  Sad but true.  Brand perception.  We all act like marketing doesn't influence us but it does

Personally I just like messing around with photoshop, I’ll probably give them the ping, Tm, and cally treatment just for fun

Keep telling yourself that ...  Those Irons are Butt Ugly....   Mizuno brought out JPX EZ Black and Orange clubs and I know a few people that bought them but they are hideous as well.

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder so don't be so thin skinned if someone says your babies ugly after you post photos of the little Lad  :swoon:

I like the looks of the irons and the driver, from what I've seen.
