Hi I currently have a large gap between my 3 wood(220-240) and my 4i(200). I sometimes use a 3i hybrid made my ping but I come to say to many par 5’s and need to hit the ball 220ish and can’t hold the green. So any suggestions for a 5 wood that I can launch high and hold greens with. I’m open to clubs that were released last week or 10 years ago. New or old doesn’t matter to me

I love my Titleist 913 F (I have a 4 wood) would make a great 5 wood, i can launch mine really high and its all carry unless i hit a low one.

I have a Diamana S+ 72gram shaft and you could get that combo for not a lot of $, im sure theres great new fairways but for me i cant get it out of the bag.

I played a Titleist 915F 18 degree last year and it was a great club.  Very high ball flight and I could work it fairly well.  I ended up in the second half of the season adding an Epic 5 wood, also 18 degrees.  The Epic is longer.  So long that I shelved my three wood and sold the Titleist 915F 18 degree to my buddy.  The Epic is not as high as the Titleist and I can only attribute the difference to the shaft.  I was using Diamana Blue S+ on the 915 and the Fuji Pro 72 on the Epic.  Both are very easy to hit and I can get 215+ or so out of the Titleist and over 230 from the Epic.  I've never hit a 5 wood 230 before, but I hit it much better than my 3 wood.  I also play a 915F in 21 degrees.  A perfect 205 to 215 club for me and so easy to hit it feels like cheating.  I'm 52 and the long irons are not as consistent for me anymore.  I've got mad confidence with that 5 wood and 7 wood.

Yeah you could even go back even older with the Titleist fairways and all that happens is they get smaller :) They still perform just as good imo but 910F and greater seem to give you that fantastic high flight in the more lofted flavours.

I'm far from the stick you are here's my experience just like Moo's above.  I carry an older TEE 5 wood that goes 205 for me.  Playing with rental clubs, the Callaway XR 5 wood went 220.  Point being, you're trying to fill a gap so putting a club in your bag that you hit too far or too low or without the proper won't help you.  And some of these new 5 woods go really far.

Thats why i dont play a 3 wood now they just fly too far for my gapping.

My 4 wood is a 239 club (Thats my Sunday best with it set at 16deg) I will play it from 225 to 240 yards carry and the height it flies its drop n stop time.

So, maybe you can answer this... why isn't the hybrid holding the green? I use a Ping hybrid, and if there's one thing that's changed for me now that I'm at sea level, it's that the hybrid doesn't go as high as I need because of the shaft.

As a scratch, you probably are a very picky person when it comes to descent angle. If you're trying to fix that, I'd like to know exactly what shaft you're pounding on that hybrid that's making it kick through greens.

Wait!

Try the Callaway Rogue in both setups - Regular or SZ - cup face, jailbreak, length, high launch, forgiving, lively yet very solid feel. Find a shaft that fits - great head.

But get fit ... no one has the right answer - jump on a monitor and see what you like.

I love my cobra baffler or any cobra wood or hybrid with the rails on the bottom. I feel like I can hit any shot with them. Added bonus that they look great and are much cheaper in price than the other big name brands.

fairway woods are tough to get along with, you might want to start with the same model as your 3 wood and go from there. What 3 wood do you have now by the way OP?

Never tried cobra or the rail tech. I know i could google this but does it just help you keep the club more square and hit it staright or what?

915F 18* if you like a normal sized fairway head. If you prefer a smaller head, the 2017 M1 9* is about 20 cc's smaller and looks really compact. I have played both. The 915F was really high launching and went forever...almost too far. I had them both paired with an AD-DI 8X. I know the 915F's with Diamana shafts can be had for very reasonable on that auction site across the street...

Really all good suggestions here--- Me personally I like my Adams Super S or older TM V-Steels--- Like any club you need the head and shaft combo for you. You also need to practice it some and learn to hit a soft high cut that will stop a ball on the green or a low stinger if you need distance. Really it is a good versatile loft around 18* for many situations on the course

To do that he would have to switch to Paige Spiranic’s driver. Might get too complicated, and she might file a restraining order.

2014 Great Big Bertha Fairways are very easy to hit and launch pretty high as the overall size of the head is a bit larger for a 5 wood.

2016 & 2017 M1's are very nice with the right shaft and have some adjustablility with the slide on the bottom

These can be found for relatively for low cost and are known performers

r9 19 (mine has TP Mits.Fubuki 63 shaft)

I'm sure there are better newer ones but I haven't been able to find one! 230 off the tee but I can't hit my 4 iron up in the air at all so I tee it a little higher or hit down on it a bit to hit a higher softer 200ish shot if I need. Really goes up in the air.

I went to the store yesterday and tried out Cobra F8, TM M4 and the Rogue. I have the Cobra F8+ driver so i really hoped the cobra would perform best for me and it was also the cheapest but i must say that the Rogue performed awesome for me. So straight and long every damn time. Extremely easy to hit. Also love the sound and feel of it.
