Playing in the Liberty Mutual National Kidney Foundation Tournament there next weekend, and looking to get a little local knowledge on what to expect weather wise.

I played the Ocean Course twice last year (once in March and once in October) and the weather conditions were DRASTICALLY different. March round was super windy and caught some rain and October was calm and beautiful.

Can we expect any calm weather there this time of year or will it likely be blowing like last year?

Any other local course knowledge is helpful as i haven't played Osprey and only saw the front 9 of Turtle Point.

Thanks!

You really never know what it is gonna be like. Yesterday it poured for about an hour and after it was very cold and windy, and today there wasn't a cloud in the sky and hardly any wind.

Hard to say, really.  Back to back days can be Drastically different , much less months apart.  Heck, we had freezing temps in February, followed three days later by a 5 day stretch of 80*.  I would say generally there is a late winter/ spring above average breeze , but trying to pin it is impossible.

Osprey is great and should be in great condition- all the courses seem to always be.  It's a fair Course and just like all of the courses out there is planted with seaside paspalum.  Especially at the OC, because it LOOK like the right play, this grass gets sticky in front of greens and doesn't really take run up shots like you think it would.  Otherwise , enjoy and don't look like a tourist and gawk at the alligators , haha. Jk.

Right,  Most of our visitors seem to be from more northern locales and can't help themselves.   I'me half guilty, played at Oak Point (kiawah) last month and never had seen so many in my life.  No kidding, I think me and my son counted 45 on the day.....just lining the banks for a little sun....even I was gawking.

Also, Expect a tight layout at Turtle and smallish Nicklaus greens.  Pretty different than Osprey, which has much more generous fairways and larger greens.   If you do get a chance to play other courses, don't look past Cougar.  Recently redone and IMO the most underrated course out there- fantastic views, great layout.  They are still building the new clubhouse at Cougar, so you will miss that but you will get your fill of clubhouse fun at Ocean, Osprey, and Turtle.

A bit of sad news, Reds Ice House at Bohicket Marina just off the island had a pretty substantial fire yesterday. Bummer as it was a great local and affordable alternative to high priced resort fare. Average food but dang good place to have a drink.   Hopefully damage wasn't as bad as it looked and they can rebuild.

Second the praise for Cougar Pointe after the redo.  Have played Osprey and Cougar so far this year and playing Oakpoint next week.
The wind has been up the last couple of weeks so I would expect a crapshoot with regards to how itís blowing.  Will depend on the luck of the draw for the day you play.

Often the mainland will get rain but the coast doesn't.  You just never know.   Good luck and let us know how it went!!!

oh man I didn't hear that. Terrible news. Great place.

Also to add, Oak is no slouch for a course. Pales to Osprey and Ocean, but i think it fits right up there with the other two. Need to get back to cougar since the redo. If it did what the reno did for Oak then I would enjoy it a lot more im sure.

It really is hit or miss. Storms either hit Kiawah first and kinda linger, or they will stay off the coast or inland and Kiawah/Hilton will be super sunny and wonderful

It will change in an hour or so. Being a meteorologist is the only job where you can be wrong all the time, but yet still get to keep your job.

Yeah, don't sweat it.  May hold, but good chance it changes.  Also, right along the coast really does somehow have a buffer - it can be raining 2 miles inland , but not at Beach.  Not sure the science, but swear it's true.

Played Ocean and Turtle last week. Ocean in great shape. Turtle tees and fairways are excellent. Greens are recovering from lack of proper care over the winter. On most greens, 85% of the surfaces are in good shape with the other 15% needing a lot of TLC. Hopefully they'll get them recovered since they're pretty new greens relatively speaking.

Im not surprised about greens being a little rough right now. The winter hurt many of the coastal courses. Should be much better in the coming weeks

Ocean was Mint. I have played it in some brutal wind/weather and now 70 and sunny. Crazy how much the weather makes a difference

Osprey im a huge fan of. Have played it 4 times now and I could play that course everyday

Cougar was a nice track. Greens were rough but rest of the course was in great shape. #2 par 3 was a really nice hole. Probably wouldn't spend the money again to play it tho. Would play Osprey twice.

Stono Ferry isnt a bad cheap track. We also played Patriots Point. 10 Mins from our hotel made life easy. Scooter golf carts there are pretty interesting
