Hello -

I am taking a trip with my family in late September down to Florida.  We will be staying at the Omni Amelia Island Plantation Resort for a few nights and then moving over to the Sawgrass Marriott in Ponte Verde to play 2 rounds at the Stadium Course.

I was wondering if any of you have any suggestions on places to eat, go out for a drink, etc. in both those areas.  Also, has anyone  been to Omni Amelia Island and played the Oak Marsh or Long Point course?  If so which one did you prefer?

Thanks for any adivce and info!

Thanks for the input I will definitely check those courses out.  I probably should if mentioned that I am open to courses in on the island not just the Omni Resort courses.

As a Jax native, I can play Oak Marsh any day of the week, but you have to pull some major strings to get on long Point.  If you can get on there, might want to jump on it.

As far as food, there is a Barbara Jeans seafood near Amelia and Sawgrass both. Awesome She Crab soup and the sides there are as good as if not better than the entrees. Lastly, you get the chocolate stuff dessert. (Warm Undercooked brownie with whip cream and ice cream)

Thanks for the heads up on Long Point.  Why is it so hard to get on?  I may try to play both Oak Marsh and Long Point and would using the resorts resources for booking tee times.

Itís private for us locals. Never any times on the various golf deal sites, or any of the other methods for getting on courses 😏

Traveling early April to Amelia Island. called proshop today and was quoted $150 (Oak Marsh) before 2pm and $180 (Long Point based on availability). This is being a guest at Omni Resort. $30 saving if I walk and $120 saving if I tee off after 2pm. are these rates typical or can I do better via 3rd party website?

Oak Marsh is 1/3 of that on golfnow right now.
Longpoint, not on golfnow.

As a guest at the Omni, what is the lowest rate available? What time do you need to play in the afternoon?

Keep the golf and food tips coming. Will be there in a few months.

Also, what's the temps like at the end of May, early June?

This is very good to know, what pro shop did you call?

Long Point is private but if you're staying at the Omni AIP resort you can play it for ~$120ish. It's got a great first 12 holes and then when it crosses the street towards the ocean it gets a little weird. Conditions are always incredible though.

Oak Marsh is a solid Pete Dye resort course with some teeth on the back nine, especially 17. It's also in great shape most of the time.

You can get on Oak Marsh via GolfNow very easily and for a great price.

As for eating on the island, I recommend the following:
  • Salt at the Ritz-Carlton -- very fine dining and expensive but arguably the best restaurant in the region. Make a reservation either through the Ritz or OpenTable
  • Burlingame Restaurant -- in downtown Fernandina, excellent food
  • Gilbert's Underground Kitchen -- get the alligator ribs!
In May and June it will be very hot. Stay hydrated, bring snacks and a cold towel. Wear sunscreen/sun protection.

one on the website.

good to know that i can book via golfnow for Oak Marsh. Will have to do that.

as for Long point, how did you get $120? per pro shop, they said $180 regardless of tee time. Maybe $120 is for mid-afternoon?

That was what it cost when I played there two years ago (morning tee time). I'm sure the members of the club have been keen to raise the price to keep non-members and resort guests off the course, especially now that there's only one resort course option at Amelia Island Plantation; they demolished the Ocean Links course a few months ago.

Here's my post from Long Point back around that time: http://www.golfwrx.c.../#entry14302710. The conditions were reminiscent of Pablo Creek or Glen Kernan.

You won't play a bad course in the Amelia Island area.  I played Oak Marsh and Ritz course in USGA qualifiers and they were great courses.

When you get into Ponte Vedra there are lots of places to eat and drink.  Pusser's is a classic spot near TPC.  Palm Valley Fish Camp is also a classic.  Also, check out Mulligans Pub - they have a nice Sunday brunch.  These places are all an uber ride or walking distance from TPC Marriott.  Enjoy.

Headed to Amelia the first week of June. Looks like Omni Courses will be closed for a few days for aerating. Any other recommendations for Golf courses? Who has the best pizza?

I played Amelia River Club when I was there last summer.  On golf now it was 35 or 45 dollars with the cart for one of the first tee times.  Not the greatest layout, wasn't in Augusta shape but for the money it was a solid value, and would play there again.

North Hampton is a nice course. You could also try having the hotel concierge call over to Amelia National (Tom Fazio design) and play there.

My Amelia Island trip is coming up in 4 weeks! Any updates on course conditions? Although, North Hampton is getting some love here. It's getting blasted on other sites for losing their greens. The Omni courses are going to be closed for a few days. I may need to find another local option. Is Fernandina Beach a waste of time? Which is the best of the three courses?

Do NOT play North Hampton right now, it's in terrible shape, played there two weeks ago and it was horrible.  I don't know what happened but the greens are toast. I would call Amelia National and ask for a tee time, it's private but they let public play occasionally, it's across the street from North Hampton, a much nicer layout and always in better shape.

Ok, thx for the suggestion om Amelia National. How much does it cost riding 18 for public play?

The last time I played there it was $58, I'm not sure if it's still the same or not, but a great value even if it's a little more.

I played Laurel Island links on the way to the Masters. Pretty good track for ~$28. It is a little north on I 95. Take some bug spray for the gnats on the range.

There is also Amelia River there on the island.

I played Laurel Island links on the way to the Masters. Pretty good track for ~$28. It is a little north on I 95. Take some bug spray for the gnats on the range.

There is also Amelia River there on the island.

Thanks! Will definitely play Amelia River. Will be there in two weeks. Any updates in course conditions? Has North Hampton gotten their greens back? Have they fixed their sand traps?

On a side note, any recommendations on kayaking in the Amelia/Fernandina Beach areas?

Traveling early April to Amelia Island. called proshop today and was quoted $150 (Oak Marsh) before 2pm and $180 (Long Point based on availability). This is being a guest at Omni Resort. $30 saving if I walk and $120 saving if I tee off after 2pm. are these rates typical or can I do better via 3rd party website?

As a guest at the Omni, what is the lowest rate available? What time do you need to play in the afternoon?

Keep the golf and food tips coming. Will be there in a few months.

Also, what's the temps like at the end of May, early June?

Pretty hot end of May early June

Espana in Fernandina Beach has really good seafood Paella if you're a fan. My wife and I stop any time we go through the area.
