Horrible and the announcers are so bad. One show someone hit it fat and blumhurst, stated that one was fat.

Male announcer; yes it was, it was also hit heavy

Worse than the speed-golfing show a couple years ago? I'm not sure.

Unfortunately, this show meant to promote top golf may be having the opposite effect.

Top golf is actually pretty fun with a group of people if you’re just there to have a good time.

Are there any ratings in yet for this crap?  I am ready to go back to 24 hours of Bagger and Shia Labeouf if this is all we have.

Every time I put Shotmakers on, 2 minutes in I pull up GolfWRX on my phone and the next thing I know the episode is over.

Big Break was much better, could keep my attention and actually showcased real life pressure scenario golf shots. Watching someone play TopGolf isn't nearly as fun, especially if you are watching on TV. Golf Channel missed the mark and I would expect this show will not return. (Hopefully).

It may have been covered already - why was Big Break canceled?

They claim it cost too much for production.  I honestly don't understand that statement.  They filmed Big Break over the course of 3 days and showed it for 3 months.

I caught an episode of the show last night. Awful and uninspired. Good concept though, but terrible execution.

I can’t see how the concept of Top Golf on TV could ever be interesting. I knew within 5 minutes that you can only do so much with this format.

They should do celebrity type golfers. Like bill Murray , Charles barkely, etc. Make it entertaining and fun to watch. When you have golfers trying to be serious in top golf platform, it doesn't work.

I spent 8 years in TV. Trust me, it's a s*** ton of money to shoot even one day of a big break type show. Esp in a remote resort. Many of the tech jobs are unionized, meaning the guy doing lighting makes more a day than you prob make in two weeks. Big break wasn't shot like a budget show, they spent some legit $$$ on it.

Like others have stated, production doesn’t cost too much, it just costs too much for the Golf Channel. Why spend your own money when you can spend others money?

They don’t want original programming. That’s why the had Top Golf pay for the tv commercial that is Shotmakers. Top Golf can pay for the production. It doesn’t cost too much for them. And it’s also why the hour long infomercial Driver VS Driver will come back this fall, because the Golf Channel needs content and Wilson needs any exposure, not because the first season did well in the ratings or in store sales of Triton (spoiler alert: it didn’t). The Golf Channel will continue to push out content on other people’s dime.

The only way Big Break comes back is if some huge resort like Reynolds Lake Oconee, who’s parent company is owned by MetLife, decides to pay for production in order to showcase their property, which will never happen.

The main problem, whatever the execution, is that Top Golf is just too simple to be interesting to watch over an extended period. Not enough different shots, lies is always the same, etc ...

Yeah, something like that "Hard Knocks" show on HBO would be really cool.
But then you'd want HBO (or maybe Netflix) to do the show to get that level of "authenticity."  Certainly not going to get that at Golf Channel.

Living at the home of Top Golf, I have to say my main takeaway from the show was, that for all the "Pros" they had they missed the entire target (some are 25 yards + wide) far more than would expect, which is maybe why they were former Pros?

GC ruined Big Break by trying to make more interesting and some of those stupid challenges they came up with as show came to its demise.

How about bring back Jim Flick, the old Bobby Jones and Hogan videos, playing lessons with the Pros? Anything but Morning Drive, repeats of Live from whatever tourney is this week, would be an improvement.

I don't even tune to GC very much anymore, and this show was an exercise in "we seem to be out of ideas, how about..."

Pass.

There's an Uncanny Valley with good looking women and time spent with them, especially in sports. Unless theyre legitimately good, it'll probably be a nightmare.

The show was shot between midnight and 5am during a big February cold snap in Vegas, and even snowed one night (but that part was cut). The players weren’t allowed to really bundle up for the cold, so they were absolutely freezing. During the day the players had other filming commitments, so all of them were pretty much sleep deprived and chilled to the bone, and had to sit there during long breaks and then suddenly get up and hit a shot without any warmup other than a practice swing or two at 3am. I can’t imagine anyone playing very well under those circumstances.

But it is is still a dumb idea.  Watching someone hit balls at the range is flat out boring no matter what. I’m guessing the person who green-lighted the show at NBC had a very short career as a programming exec.

I was wondering how they were able to shut down Top Golf Vegas and tape it. Midnight-5 AM tapings are brutal.

Not really interested in any of the golf 'reality' shows, nor any of the others for that matter. Maybe it's a young(er) person thing. :)
I'm not suggesting we kill all the stupid people, I'm just suggesting we remove all the warning labels and let the situation resolve itself.

Then yes, it is probably a younger (than you) person thing. :p

Big Break was worthy of a watch but that was before Netflix.   But I would watch any golf competition or any competition for that matter.
