I bought this club years ago from a member here, if I remember correctly.  I thought at the time it was fake and never really messed with it again.  But I took it out recently and hit it and it plays really good, I actually like it.  But I'm pretty sure it's fake.  Check out the score lines on the face.  They are different than the pics I have found online.  But the script and everything else looks legit.  Usually the script on fakes is off, but this looks right.  I've also noticed in the pics of the ones online there is a little circle towards the heel, the hot melt port I think.  Mine doesn't have that.  So what do you think>  Is thing fake or real and some kind of proto or tour issue or something?

P.S. Nevermind the awful reshaft job. That abomination was done by an assistant "pro" at a CC I used to work at.

These are some pics I found online

Not sure why the pics I took off the internet are so small.  Anybody know how to make them bigger?

I guess you can't see it too well in the pic, but where the shaft comes through on the sole looks like he got glue all over it and then tried to sand it off. Same thing on the toe where he took off some paint. He also burned it a little on the hosel and the paint in the X on the sole is bubble up like it got too hot as well

Not sure if you mean it wouldn't be faked now or it wouldn't have ever been. I got this club probably ten years ago, if that makes a difference. I just don't see another explanation for the different score limes unless it's tour issue or a proto or something

I've got a 13* 3 wood of that model... it is however the "tour" version which is like the pro versions today Xr16 / Xr16 Pro... On mine there is no hosel at all.  The ferrule sits even with the head, unlike yours.  That makes me think yours may be a fake.

Everything I see on eBay has 3 scoring lines on the bottom face vs the 2 on yours. They also have a ferrule rather than solid metal like yours. These lead me to believe your assumptions of it being fake are correct.

Yours is fake.  These should have a ferrule that snaps into the head, and not a hosel like yours.

The scoring lines being different are what made me assume it was fake. I hadn't even noticed the hosel. Oh well, it still performs pretty well

So then my next question is why screw something up so simple as the number of score lines? I get not always getting the script or something just right, but 2 score limes instead of 3? Had they gotten that right I probably never would have questioned it.

I've seen other knock off products that had something really basic like that wrong when everything else looked good. Almost makes me think there's some loophole in Chinese law where they can say it's not a fake because this is different

It is definitely fake sorry.  The alignment arrow is to white and the x on sole plate is way closer to face if you go to golfbidder.co.uk they have great photos comparing a fake x 5w to a real one

No idea. Maybe they got lazy, maybe it's not within their abilities, either on the front end or in production. I've been wondering the same about putters for a while, why even both making such terrible fakes? But some people still buy them, and the scary part is the fakes are now getting damn good.

Ya the shape is totally different when it's next to a real one
