I wonder if Tiger would have still played this year if it wasn't a tournament where he has so many wins from?  He stopped playing the Byron Nelson Invitational after Bryron died.

Although the top four players in the OWGR won't be there, it still looks like a pretty strong field.  Should be a another good test for Tiger.

Me too! I forgot Golf was such fun to watch. It's good to be back watching!  That said not watching golf meant I spent more time working on my game and now play a lot better.

Johnny Miller called into Golf Channel's post-game show last night, as he will be in the analyst's chair for the first time in 2018 this week at the API.

Anyway, the main focus of the discussion centered on Tiger's performance, and Johnny wasn't at all shy about sharing his feelings!  He said that Tiger's driving was the best he'd seen in many years.  Gave his short game a grade of A, but when it came to the irons, felt that he wasn't getting it close enough to the hole due to an overly conservative mindset, and that only garnered a grade of C.  This put a bit too much pressure on his putting, which was good, but it's still not realistic to expect him to hole 30-footers all day long.

When it came to picking favorites for the API, said that he didn't consider Tiger THE favorite, but one of a handful of favorites, when considering his recent form, track record at Bay Hill, and the relative strength of field.

Looking forward to it. Tournament's been great to Tiger and vice versa over the years. It's where he has gotten his groove back, numerous times.

And for what it is worth, I think Johnny Miller's analysis was "spot on".  It was a great outing for Tiger ... he's getting himself back into the groove and I suspect that his "conservative" play was a bit more of a case of building confidence on a Sunday and while his "proximity" to the hole was not the best he gave himself some chances.  All in all, I think Tiger's doing well and has been extremely wise in terms of tempering expectations.

I dont think Tiger's play on Sunday was "conservative" at all.  He was 2 back and the overnight leader basically gave it back in the first few holes.  Nobody in the last two or three groups was scoring well at all.  Paul Casey shot a 65 mainly because he drained three 20-footers for birdie.

Tiger's "poor" hole was the par-5 14th, when he three-putted for par after leaving that 80-footer some 10 feet short.  He needed birdie there after basically getting home in two.  If he gets birdie there, he probably wins.  I thought otherwise he played a solid Sunday round that kept him right there all day.

Tiger didnít plAy conservatively. He missed putts that were needed to win a tournament.

Did he putt bad? No. He just didnít putt well enough to win.

I dont think so...its because now that Arnold has now been gone for over a year, there isnt pressure for some of the big names to show up to the tournament.  I dont think Bay Hill is a popular stop for some guys, and with the Match Play and then Houston/Masters coming up, many guys Im sure are taking their final respite before majors season kicks in.  With the Players now in May, there isnt many chances for the top guys to take a break between the Masters and the US Open.

Many tour pros I think felt obligated to show up to Bay Hill to pay homage to Arnie.  They dont have to worry about that now.
