Starting my wedges strategy: can get the SM4's for under $40 used and don't have the funds for new at fitting centres. So looking at 3 wedges 46,50,54.

Want to start with a 54 set up for sand mainly and if possible for open face shots around the green. so advice on bounce and grind please please!

Maybe if I clarify that I’m considering the 54•11 as opposed to the 54•14 bounce for sand traps and softer fairways? Would the 11 be ok?

Well, to a certain extent, a club that is optimal for "sand traps and soft fairways" is going to be sub-optimal for "open faced shots around the green" (and vice-versa). The 54-14 (F-grind) would generally be better for the former, and the 54-11 (M-grind) would generally be better for the latter. If you want both, I'd go with the 54-11.

Thanks Dave, I'm thinking definitely along the lines of sand and fairway full/half shots. Don't like high lofted wedges around the green .... If I'm high off I would rather take my chances with the putter, low up hill chips will be a 46 PW, that 11 is definitely an option ... Wild idea been festering in my mind to have a 2nd pitching wedge for softer fairway approaches ,my Hogan E wedge is a real digger
