Maui plantation course is nice but, the gold and emerald out there are also incredible.

If it's your first time to Hawaii, don't plan your trip around golf. Plan it around what you want to do in Hawaii, golf is an afterthought compared to the beauty of the islands.

That being said, Puakea on Kauai is really fun course. Not as upscale as some of the other courses, but a LOT cheaper. Great course, incredible mountain views. The guy I played with out there is a regular visitor to Hawaii, and said Puakea was, in his opinion, the best value on the islands.

Seconding SecondandGoal.

Last time I was in Hawaii (first time), spent way too much of it golfing and taking a minicamp, and missed out a lot of what Maui has to offer.  That being said I don't really regret it (that much) as the golf and views were incredible.

Just expect to pay alot for golf out there they really like to screw over the tourists there.  Buddy of mine who lives there paid 90 for plantation it would have been 325 for me but, they gave me military rate the time I played it.

If you go back to Ohau I recommend plaing Hoakalei  It's probably best course on that island they have the sony qualifier there every year buddy of mine is a member I play it alot when I'm out there it's usually always in good shape.

Maui is way too crowded for me.  I prefer Kauai and The Big Island.

Princeville is my favorite course in HI followed by Mauna Kea.

Did Maui just recently and loved the views and by far the best was Plantation and Wailea Gold....these tracks are both must plays. The other courses were great as well with great weather and some fun resort designs at Kanapali and the other tracks at Wailea and Kapalua. Really was nice to have 8-10 great public courses within 30 mins - 1hr of each other. Maui Lani was another very different design than the resort courses and was fun and tough.

Cant wait to go back and try the other islands but for sure will be back to Maui

completely agree. Plantation course was one of my favorite courses of all time. Gold was also a great course with amazing views.

Look in the Hawaii forum.  Went to Maui in January for the TOC.  Played golf on Lanai, which trumped anything on Maui by far.  It is tough to get to, but well worth it!

The prince course has been closed since 2014. I believe they are still expecting to reopen sometime in 2018 but haven't announced a hard date yet so I think this is looking more and more unlikely. Probably going to have to save the Prince for another trip
