Which of the Snell balls would be equivalent to the z star XV? Prefer lower spin off the driver.

Hybrid: Taylormade RBZ 19* (Fujikura Speeder TS H9.8)
Irons: Nike VR_S Forged 4-PW (DG X100)
Wedges: Nike SV Tour (DG S400)

Great thanks mmowen. I was concerned the upright setting didn't carry across, so it seems it's only the situation with the LTD pro and the flat fade settings. Thanks again.

I am about ready to try the Red because I need Yellow.  Been playing the Chrome Soft so I should be able to handle this ball.

Before you jump in with the Red order a test pack. I was a Chrome Soft guy and went with the Black.

I think Dean says both have very similar spin and performance off the tee. If anything Black might be slightly lower launch and spin.

BTW, I just saw your handle and it reminded me that Fade to Black was the last song I played live over 30 years ago.

Received my yellow Reds yesterday, and Blacks. Been raining here but can't wait to get em on the course for comparison. Liked the MTB but have high hopes for the Red, especially in yellow.

Received a dozen Red/Yellow this week.  Once the snow goes away, I will be comparing them with the Chrome soft.  Wonder which one is going to be better???

Will be doing the same.  So far just putting around the house, both the Red and Black just a slight more click than Chrome Soft, but noticeably softer than '17 Chrome Soft X.  In terms of soft feel off putter face, would say (from soft to clicky):  Chrome Soft, TP5, MTB Black, MTB Red, Chrome Soft X (not equally spaced though as MTB Red feels closer to the Chrome Soft end than Chrome Soft X).

First round with MTB Red today.  Loved the look of the yellow, probably my favorite yellow out there, was so easy to find and follow in the air.  Putted pretty well with it, and didn't mind the feel off the putter, however feel on full shots with woods, irons, and wedges was very different.  Clicky and loud.  Launched high and did seem to spin more, but also seemed to get held up in wind more than I'm used to, which could have been due to extra spin.  Maybe I've just gotten too used to the solid thud feeling of chrome soft, but the feedback on well struck shots did not seem to correspond with the ball flight.  Was certainly just as long as anything else, aside from wind.  I did enjoy the color and it putted very well on the greens, but the flight/sound/feel from tee to green was not for me.  Looking forward to giving the MTB Black a try next.

If I am honest, my first time playing the red was a windy day and I felt that if was affected more by the wind as well - came up short all day.  I was also very used to the Chrome Soft feel.  But I played a few rounds with the red (more wind too), even though I didn't think it would be good for me after 1 round - I ended up loving it.

The 'shortness' was more expectations of my distances.  With the Red, I had to start playing to the exact pin location, knowing that the ball would stop in its tracks and distances were better.  <I think I played other balls to a number and got extra rollout that would bring me to that number...Reds would be all carry, just a different mentality>.

I also did not think anything would kick the Chrome Soft out of my bag for putting, but the Red did.  Chrome now feels jumpy off of my putterface and less controllable in comparison to the Red.

So maybe give it a longer test with a new thought process?  In the end it may still not be for you - but I really like the predictability and control of the Red now.

I posted last week in the Snell discussion about my experience with the MTB Red ball.  In short, I loved it and the results since then only serve to further my appreciation  for the ball.  When I ordered I requested 2 dozen white and one dozen yellow balls.  Of course the back order situation threw a damper on my experiments but no worries, the yellow MTB Reds showed up last Thursday.  Promptly put them in play Friday and shot a ho-hum 71 with an OB.  Back to the white ball yesterday and another ho-hum round of 70.  I like this ball as it does what I ask without a lot of fanfare.  A bit longer than the Z-Star for me and spins very well so I'm able to work it and stop it when necessary.

The bigger news was a couple of playing companions prefer yellow balls and they are the main reason I ordered these.  Gave them both a sleeve with the proviso that the MTB Red would spin more than the Titleist AVX they were both using.  I heard nothing but praises from both after the round.  Loved the distance, extra spin was welcome and what was that website address again?  Promises made to order more balls for themselves.

Thanks, Dean, for an excellent product that serves the needs of golfers quite well.

Very fair points, monkeyboy.  I did hole more feet of putts than usual, which that alone justifies a longer run in test regardless of feel.  Will keep them in the bag for a bit longer and see if I adjust.  Appreciate the feedback and advice.  Regardless of outcome for me personally, it is definitely a quality product and the color is awesome.  Kudos to Snell Golf for the caliber of both the new offerings.

I have tested both extensively and I agree they are both excellent balls.  The Red is very controllable and predictable and quite posibly the best short game ball I have ever used.  The Black is an improved MTB and is softer with a bit more greenside spin.

The only issue that keeps the Red from being a regular gamer for me is performance off of the driver.  Every few drives I'll get an odd ball that ends up being well short of what I expect.  There have been a few occasions with the Red that I absolutely crushed it and it ended up being very short,  Sometimes the ball visibly comes off spinney sometimes it looks normal but just doesn't fly, then sometimes it flies just fine and ends up exactly where I would expect it.  I never have a problem with any of the irons which tells me I'm probably getting some huge variances in regard to spin off the Driver the with the Red.

Also as far as wind balls go both the Red and Black actually outperformed the new bridgestones when it came to stability in crosswinds and headwinds which surprised me.

For the record my SS with the driver is 115-120 and my stock 7i is 175.

My gamer is the TP5x and it is for me, the most consistent tee ball I have ever played, but the Red is probably the best wedge-shortgame ball I have ever used.  I'll have access to a trackman soon and I plan on hitting a few different balls and actually getting some hard data to correlate to what I'm seeing on course.

Interesting observations. Would like to know if anyone else has the same issue with driver spin and the RED

I haven't seen any issues with the red off the tee.  I'm right where I expect to be for a given swing off the tee.  Love the ball, I gave one to my son on his first shot into a green he spun it back 10ft.  He looks at me and says "I see what you mean".  He has been playing the original MTB until then.  After the round he asked when the next time I would be putting in an order for reds, he wants in:)  They're both great balls would be happy playing either, I'm thinking as the season goes on the red will be a better option when the greens firm up and spin is a premium.

too many inconsistencies on driver spin with the Red on here....staying away from it, MTB Black will keep me in the fairway more!

Never noticed any 'spin' issues with Red off the tee.  Per the documentation, both red and black should spin about the same off of the driver...so I would suggest it is the Indian, not the Arrow.
Played a few holes with the Red today (trying to get rid of my other brand, older balls) and it is continuing to impress...very consistent, checks up wonderfully - I can really go right at the pin without worrying about the ball not checking, great putting ball.  Some wind today too.

I am convinced that Red will be my gamer from now on.

The more I chip/putt with MTB Red, the more I think monkeyboy may be on to something with his earlier comments on putting control.  These really inspire a feeling of being able to be aggressive on putts without fear of blasting it by the hole.

Because of the weather this year, I have only been to the course one time and no time at a driving range.  My swing is far from very good.  This week before I played a full nine holes I spent some practice time on five holes comparing the Snell MTB Red Yellow to the Chrome Soft Yellow.

Distance:  I compared drives, hybrids, and various iron shots and I did not see any difference between the two balls.  I used a GPS so I was able to figure out how far they went.  Winner - For now, they are tied.

Short Game Spin:  Snell MTB Red has as much if not a little more short game hop and stop as the CS. I really need to spend a little more time to confirm.  Winner - Snell MTB Red by just a small amount.

Durability:  After practice and 9 holes of play, the CS had a couple of ball marks on it and I don’t think that I hit a cart part.  The CS had no marks.  Winner - Chrome Soft.

Feel: On full swings, the ball feels very good and for me they felt about the same. The only real distinction is on putting.  The CS felt softer off the putter than the Snell MTB Red but nothing to be concerned about.  I made some very good putts with the MTB Red. Winner - tied.

Visibility:  The Snell MTB Red is a little brighter yellow and I was able to follow it better with bad eyesight.  Winner - Snell MTB Red.

Price:  The new Chrome Soft is $45 plus tax per dozen while Snell MTB Red is $32 per dozen. This is a no brainer.  Winner - Snell MTB Red by a wide margin.

Summary:  I have not played much this year so my game is not near where it should or will be.  I really need to play several 18 hole rounds to come up with a more solid conclusion but so far, I like the Snell MTB Red in Yellow.  It performs as well or better than the CS that I normally play and the price is much better.

I hope to come back in a few weeks with several rounds under my belt and will let you know if the MTB Red is my new gamer.  I think it might be.

Another round in today with MTB Red, really enjoy playing this ball.  Have adjusted to minor ball flight and feel differences, and still loving the color and putting feel. Just don't know if I'm going to get past the wind effects though.  Had to club down 2 and 3 clubs today and still got held up ballooning on me.  I don't know if it's just spinning more than I'm used to, but I don't remember having to do that with TP5.  Is it just me or are others battling wind effects with the Red? If so was Black any better for you?
