Are your carbon shafts deformed for 15-20sec after impact?

Hallo everybody,
I've bought a few clubs recently, one is a M1 440 with a HZRDUS Black 5.5 65g shaft and the other is a M2 tour 3 wood with a Kuro Kage reg flex 70g shaft. In particular with the driver, the shaft is obviously and visibly deformed backwards for at least 15sec after impact. It does return to it's normal form, but when hitting on the range, I need to give the shaft some time before hitting it again. The same can be observed - to a much lesser extent with the Kuro Kage wood shaft.

I'm not looking for comments - OMG you must swing fast, but I am asking:
1. Is this normal?
2. Is this is an indication that these shafts are too light and/or flexible for me?

The main reason for asking this, is that I just got sent a Rogue wood with a 80g shaft (I ordered 70g) and am wondering if I should send it back, or give it a go - I can't go to a fitting (unfortunately). I have to fit myself through trial and error.

Cheers,
David.

No, but the shaft is slightly bent / bowed backwards - when I turn the club on the axis of the shaft, it's really easy to see. If it was just the HZRDUS, I would just have thought that it is a poor example of this shaft (it's the TM OEM version, not the handmade), but the Kuro Kage also shows the effect to a lesser extent. These are the only two reg flex shafts I have - and maybe they should be the last - my primary interest in this discussion.
Cheers,
David.

The shaft shouldn't stay in flexion that long after impact.

Love to see pictures of that.  Or can you be more specific about what this deformation looks like?

But no that's not normal - nor even consistent with basic laws of mechanics for 'normal' materials  (yes there are some very specialized materials that can behave differently - but carbon fiber shafts are not one of those).  Either deformation is elastic - in which case it should return to it's normal shape immediately as soon as the forces are removed.  Or deformation is plastic - in which case it will not return to the original shape unless physically bent back (a reverse plastic deformation generated).

No, it's not an indication that it's too light or too flexible for you (too weak maybe IF your normal swing caused damage to the shaft - but that's not quite the same as too flexible).

I've never seen it or heard of anything like that, but in theory it could be a consequence of some serious delamination occurring of the graphite layers in the shaft.

Could be badly formed carbon, it sounds like a defect of some sort for sure

I'll see if I can catch it on an iPhone - might take until the weekend. I'll be going to the range tonight, but it might be too dark to get any decent pictures on the phone - the boxes are pretty gloomy.
Cheers,
David

I did try to make some photos of the shaft, but the bend is just to subtle to photograph without the use of a grid and something with a few reference points. It's not as if the club is L formed after impact, the bend is maybe 1cm over the length, which is obvious when you hold and rotate the club in your hand, but not obvious on a photo. I think I'll put this down a being a poor example of this shaft.
Thanks for the input,
David.

I think it's very possible that you're seeing things, because from a physics standpoint this can't happen.  Modern composite shafts are far too inelastic to hold a bend, much les shave it slowly straighten back out. That's how I'm reading your comments, that the normal straight line the shaft would take is somehow a curved line, albeit a subtle curve, right?

Shaft stays bent after impact?

I think chains are being yanked or too much beer has been consumed....or both.

Maybe try a Zolex X-Shaft?  Being that its flat like a sword might not deform as much.

Put it up to something with a straight edge after said swing, like a ruler.

Bumping this back up so the witty comments keep coming in!

OP, there has to be something straight-edged in the driving stall you could place it next to to get a decent pic?  Since you say it's obvious if you roll it in your hand, perhaps post a UTube video?  Not trying to bust your balls, but most posters here are not believing this.  Maybe some before pics of a perfectly straight shaft, then one 10 seconds after you've deformed it?

Did you buy this club/shaft combo from a site the started with Ali... or DHGa...?
