Great review, good honest findings. I wonder though if part of the dispersion was the result of the confidence issue you mentioned for the M3 graphics? Maybe something to think about for a potential buyer.

After giving this review some thought I feel that it's an unfair review regarding the M3 460
1.) I was not fitted with M3 460 @ the Kingdom, the review should be between M3 440 vs Rogue SZ.
2.) Review was done knowing that the M3 460 head I have may be "defective" after 2 plastic pieces came out.

Based on that I find this review may not be helpful for others and it's also not the most accurate representation for M3 460.

Mod, can you please close this up.

Thank you
Calvin.

Sounds like TM reached out! lololol

very fishy

(fair point nonetheless, as correct it shouldve been the 440 vs rogue)

So earlier this year I was one of the lucky 7 that went to TaylorMade Kingdom, Carlsbad for an amazing fitting and an unforgettable experience thanks to GolfWRX and TaylorMade. You can find the whole trip review and experience HERE if you are interested.

I was fitted with M3 440 9* head with Graphite Design Tour AD TP 6s shaft, head set at 1 click before LOWER setting, unfortunately I didn't came home with the 440 head because it was out of stock at the time, instead TM gave me a 460 head so I have something to play with for our round there @ Aviara. But no worries, I got my 440 head last week and there will be a separate comparison after a few more rounds with the head.

Like any true GolfWRXer I bought a Rogue SubZero 9* driver from DiscountDan while I was waiting for my 440 head after reading and watching all the reviews I could find, a lot of good things was said about Rogue SZ. I had last year's Epic SZ for a short period of time when it first came out, didn't like it at all, sold it and stayed with my tour issue M2.

Driver -

M3 460, 9.5* head set at 7.75*, both weights set forward toward face.
Rogue SZ 9* head set at 8* D, 14g weight froward, 2g weight back.

Shaft -

Both drivers were tested with Graphite Design Tour AD TP 6s shaft
Both driver plays @ 44.75” length
Both driver has MCC+4 grip
As you may noticed on the shaft graphics in the picture, TaylorMade tipped their driver shaft 1” as their standard vs no tipping for Callaway. This is the only major difference I can think of that may or may not contributed to my comparison review.

One tiny boring thing I noticed on TaylorMade shafts (one from Kingdom, one came with the 440 head), there are two different adaptors.

Ball -

I used brand new Titleist Pro V1x for both driver during my test.

Look - Rogue SZ

Lets start with M3, personally I like the original white/carbon crown on 2016 M1/M2 look best, much easier for me to align with confidence, 2017 was ok and I don’t particular care for the new M3/M4. For Me, I find the new M3/M4 very difficult to know for sure whether face is open/square/close at address.

Rogue SZ improved big time from last year’s Epic SZ busy crown graphics, Rogue’s graphic is also less visible vs Epic from address.

Footprint and profile from address, M3 440 (small/shallow) < Rogue SZ < M3 460 (big/deep). I def. like either M3 440 or Rogue SZ better over M3 460 head.

Sound and feel - Rogue SZ

Both M3 and Rogue has somewhat “muted” sound because of carbon fiber crown construction and both driver head feel solid on sweet spot hits, but M3 feel a bit harsher on mishit and it’s also just a little louder to my liking vs Rogue.

Side Note -

2 small black plastic molding looking pieces came out of the 460 head, first rattle started during our round @ Aviara, I was able to shake a piece out thru the hosel. Couple of weeks ago the rattle came back and I shake another piece out. Not sure where those 2 pieces came loose from within the driver and not sure if it affected performance of the driver?!

On Course - Rogue SZ

M3 460 has a fairly tight dispersion on good hits which I like, but can be “unpredictable” when mishit. Like many has predicted when “TwistFace” first came to light from TaylorMade that an OPEN FACE toe hit will result a RIGHT and further RIGHT shot, I’ve hit plenty of those during my test. You also get punish with a greater lose of distance when miss the sweet spot. It is also harder for me to work the 460 on different trajectory or shot shape.
I am blown away by Rogue SZ’s performance after owned last year’s Epic SZ for less than 2 weeks and sold it with great disappointment. Much improved on sound, feel and look. I feel confident at address and able to work the ball both ways, high or low. Doesn’t lose much distance on mishits and it’s more predictable. Played with my usual group on Sunday @ my home course, hit 12/14 fairways and the 2 missed fairways was because I wasn’t expecting the drive to go that long that the fairway ran out. Not trying to be cocky or anything but it was pretty much aim and hit for me on Sunday with Rogue.

The test is not over but as of now M3 460 is out and Rogue SZ is in. I’ll be spending the next few weeks testing and playing both Rogue SZ and M3 440.

Looks like you updated your bag with a M3 440.  Did that beat out your Rogue SZ?
