I saw this in Golf Digest STIX today: if you are unable to access a specific club to demo, there is another way:

There are some obstacles to purchasing new golf clubs. Perhaps none so big a hurdle as not wanting to shell out $500 for the latest driver without ever having hit a ball with it—and even if you have, probably not in on-course conditions. Sure, some facilities have demo clubs, but many don’t—or they don’t have the ones you want to try. Enter Global Golf’s U-Try program where you can try before you buy.

The program works like this. Select a club (or two) you would like to try (just drivers and fairway woods for now) and your credit card is charged a $25 fee per club. The club is sent to you to try for two weeks. On the range, on the course, anywhere you want. An email or text will be sent letting you know when your two weeks are coming to an end.

Once the trial period is over, you can either decide to buy the club (your credit card will be charged the purchase price with you getting your original $25 credited toward the purchase) or return the club (in the box it came in along with the pre-filled out return shipping label they included. Oh, and if you decide to buy the club you can use the return box and label to ship any used clubs to Global Golf for further credit against your purchase. You can look up the trade-in value at https://www.globalgolf.com/trade-in/. In other words, a lot of those obstacles just got taken out of the way. —E. Michael Johnson

Good to know! Itís always so much nicer to take them out on the range or even the course before you buy. I will have to remember this for next time. Good find.

This is a great idea for those who aren't fortunate enough to have places nearby that offer all of the clubs and options to try out on their own time!

This is a great idea.  I'm fortunate enough to live near a DSG and GG that has a ton of different stuff to demo, but I still never have 100% confidence in TM or their other launch monitors.  Next time I'm in the market for a new driver, I will narrow down my choices to a couple based on the TM data, and then do an on course test with through these folks.

Thanks for sharing!

Well this just makes sense. Global Golf is pretty much covering its shipping costs so they aren't out any money except wear on the club. If you buy, then they profit and you got to REALLY demo the clubs.

Good move Global Golf.

I wonder how it works if you decide to buy. It sounds like you just keep the club, but that means you just bought a demo. As I highly doubt they are going to send everyone a new in the plastic driver just for $25. They would take quite the hit trying to sell all those used clubs. I would think the club you receive to demo would have been hit before. Meaning if you keep it, you just bought a used club.

Just like shaft shack, except now for heads.

Does this include custom shafts?

Good point above too... Why would I pay retail for a club that's obviously a "demo". Would I ship them that demo back and they then send me a brand new unit to the exact specs I need? Or do I buy it at a used price?

What clubs are eligible for U-try?

Currently, U-try clubs are limited to new condition drivers and fairways from select brands. You can always view the full selection of clubs eligible for U-try here: https://www.globalgolf.com/u-try/. As we add new club types and brands, they will automatically be shown here.

Used clubs are not eligible for U-try at this time.

I could see clubs getting lost in the mail as a potential issue. If youíre returning a club you donít like & shipper loses it, you will have to file the claim, not Global Golf. If claim is unresolved, will you be liable for full price of the club, or does Global carry insurance? I guess same policy when youíre returning something back that you bought for refund.

And what if you damage the club or put an idiot mark on the crown? Or return it with a missing weight screw, added lead tape, shortened shaft, or other mods?

I bet it's you break it, you bought it.

Why would you modify a "demo" club though?  Would you modify a friend's club they are letting you borrow?  C'mon man!

The resurrected Ben Hogan brand offers a club test program. Check it out.

Bridgestone had a program at one time, but doesn't offer anymore. I tried it out on the J40 Dual Pocket Cavity irons. I got a 5i and 9i shafted in NS Pro 950 and a second pair in DG-SL R300.

Might be good for some who can't make it to golf store but I would imagine it will just be stock shaft offerings and kind of a hassle with all the shipping. I have a local golf shop where you can give them your info and you can take their demo clubs or used clubs out for up to like 2 weeks.

Itís a pretty cool program. If  you havenít checked it out go to the website and click on frequently asked questions.    It answers a lot of the questions that Have been asked above. They appear to be being very generous with the club. You get a new club. They only charge you if you have significant damage to the club. There are some minor charges for broken adapters, shaft issues and other things but very minimal charges unless itís totally destroyed.

Honestly, I cannot see how they are going to make out on this deal. But for sure I will be giving it a try.

Without reading anything on it, the program will probably apply only to the CONUS, like most things.

Which is why I started this thread. I don't know how many times I have read posts from members looking to buy clubs and saying they live too far away to from any golf shop to properly assess a club. So many of them determine what they will purchase based on an educated guess.

wow. God bless them for trying to take this one on. large amounts of demo clubs are an absolute bear to deal with, even when you have them all at just one location. tuning into this thread to see if they can sustain this program, it's definitely not gonna be all roses for them.

and just so you all know.... people will damage these clubs, they will be breaking these clubs, they will be modifying these clubs, they will be stealing/switching parts off these clubs, they will  be commiting fraud and outright stealing these clubs. anyone who thinks or says that none of that is possible has never worked in the golf retail industry.

I ran across this yesterday when I was working from home! Excellent way to try new clubs. I will be demo'ing the Rogue for sure.

To the question about custom shafts - when I looked at options for Rogue, it was 3 different stock shafts. I already have a Cally driver, so I'm really just demoing the head against my current gamer.

I applaud Ben Hogan Golf for offering their demo program. You'd think more companies would do this, especially to their client base that has bought/ordered from them previously. It would be a good way to entice golfers to stay with your brand.
"Oh, we see you ordered the Epic with us last April. Would you like to try the new Rogue? Shipping on US!"

You listening, Callaway_HarryA!

Awesome idea, someone should replicate the idea with shafts as well.
