How is Fitzpatrick still ahead of Noren?

Benefit (for Fitzpatrick) of having played more on the Euro Tour...he has played more events and had some decent finishes on the ET whereas Noren has almost exclusively been out in America since the start of the year.

Have to say it's fortunate 2018 is in Europe, I could imagine if Hatton gets more exposure on the PGA Tour this year, and more US fans cop onto what he's like, he'd be in for non-stop heckling.
He really is a prat version of Sullivan.

"I don't agree 100% with your analysis.  Yes, it's nice to hole out, which I did twice during last weeks game, but didn't need either to win those holes or the match.   All that was needed was a tap in to win each hole.  Of course, I was aiming from 20yds and 15yds with the intent to put the ball in the hole, but the expectation was tap-ins." Yeah but hes still ahead on the world list, really don't get that one, anyway heres hoping Pieters gets his butt into gear as well, just don't see Fitzpatrick as a good Ryder cup player

Well for a start Hatton has so much more game than Sullivan, but is he really any worse than spieth??

Interesting....

Does the European team use a combined point system?

Fair point on the state of their games. I was thinking more along the lines of Sullivan being more someone who talks to himself like a bit of a nutter, compared to Hatton who comes off like a whinger.
Most US golf fans likely never heard of him before this week and I just saw a fair few comments about his demeanor, as if it was something new. I'm in the wrong part of the world to speak ill of Mr. Spieth, I have to play golf with people down here ;)

I expect Fowler and Watson to play their way into the team and knock Harmon and Woodland out. Patrick Reed as a Captainís pick most likely unless he plays really poorly this year. After Captain America Furyk could fill out the team with Patrick Cantlay or Snedeker.

The European team looks really solid although Tyrell Hatton looks to have a bit of a temper issue.  Rory will be there no matter what and so will Stenson. I imagine that Dubuisson and/or Levy will get picked as well since the matches are in their home country.

Should be a fun Ryder Cup this year!

With the comeback of Tiger, the reemergence of Phil, the sudden burst from Bubba, and with Pat Perez playing the best golf of his career, the American Ryder Cup team is beginning to look older than what I had hoped for.  And "Kuch" is in the mix as well.

I've said before - imagine pairing Hatton and Rahm together. Talk about fireworks, especially if they were losing.

Great thread here, was just thinking about the Ryder Cup today. DJ/JT vs Rory/Pieters could be what we’d hoped DJ/Koepka would be last go round. Would like to see Harman fall off the US team. Have to think Rickie and Bubba will play their way on. Gonna be a good one, Euros are STACKED as well.

I would prefere Ted Potter to qualify and leave to Furyk the awkward decision to use one wildcard on Tiger ;)

Pleased to see Casey win at the weekend, I had been thinking that we may be left in the awkward situation where he has come out and committed to the European Tour in order to make himself eligible and then fail to qualify, but I think the win and a few decent results over the next few months will be enough to get him on the team.

I really think this is shaping up to be one of the best Ryder Cups in recent memory, the American team hopefully containing Tiger is going to be strong, and the Europeans will almost definitely be much better that last time out, lets face it we can hardly be any worse!

Last time we had way too many guys who gained enough points to qualify early on in the process and then completely lost any sort of form (Sullivan for example), guys who qualified on the back of one good result (Wood) and 2 out of 3 of our picks were shocking.

I do hope Rory picks up his form, which I expect him to do, or he could leave Bjorn in a very difficult position.

Wiesberger can go low! He would be a great pick!

Noren will play his way in. As is Paul Casey.

Can Tiger be a captains pick? Not sure if his role as captain is a conflIct of interest.

He's a vice captain but he will absolutely get a captain's pick if he's anywhere near qualifying. I suspect he won't need one though.

Noren striking a blow against Captain America this week although a lot of Europe's other big guns haven't fired. Pieters is the big concern for me at the moment, Europe needs him to be in top form come September.

If he doesnít have enough points to qualify, Furyk should look long and hard at using a Captainís Pick on Kisner.  Beat Weisberger, Poulter, and a red-hot Noren this week.  Great putter (give me as many good putters as possible in team events) and loves to compete head-to-head.

Yes, especially given his excellent performance in the 2017 Presidents Cup and chemistry with Phil.

My predicted pairings for team USA

Reed/Spieth
Phil/Kis
Woods/Kuch

I would have thought Thomas and Rickie were likely partners too but now that Bubba is going to make the team I suspect Rickie will have to pair up with him (who else will?). That leaves DJ and Thomas free to pair up with whoever else makes the team (Koepka if he's healthy).

would love to see Bryson win one this year to auto-qualify and be paired with Tiger...maybe they can play out of one bag given TWs curiosity with single length irons

My guess for the Euro wildcards would be...Noren, Cabrera-Bello, Casey and Stenson.

for the US...Reed, Fowler, Kisner and Tiger
swing is irrelevant, score is everything

just say NO.... to practice swings

Nice idea for a thread and will be interesting to see how things evolve ! As a Euro (well a Brit :(  ) I like the top 8 and would probably layer in Stenson, Noren and Pieters as Captain's picks. Not too fussed about Casey and would be great to see Alex Levy in there to get the locals going

I agree with most of what you have said, Casey has to be a serious consideration though as his form has been so good and he is a match play specialist. Levy is some player but he is a bit hot and cold but still a good shout. Rafa CB should be close or get in which is a good thing. We had too many rookies last time (and just got out played), with Fleetwood, Rahm and Hatton looking in good shape to make the team I'm not sure having another rookie is what we need.

Disagree we had a clown as a captain and we had a washed out Lee Westwood.

Anybody who managed a worse record as Captain then Faldo deserves to be hung out to dry. Clarke's choices were baffling at times to say the least.

Well said. The media stitch up and image do-over the media gave him was sickening. Bad news is his sidekick will likely get the chance to lose the Ryder Cup as he moves in the same powerful circles.

Rafa CB and Thomas Pieters will probably qualify on their own merits, both have a win or two in them before then.
