Looks really bad....he wasnt the driver of any cars involved but right now his name was mentioned in the tweet. Driver of the ferrari has died, so hopefully no other casualties. Luke Wilson (actor) was in an SUV that collided with the ferrari

Friend of mine was killed in a Ferrari crash in Pacific Palisades and Golfer Bill Haas was injured. Prayers are appreciated. Life is so fragile. We never know when the man upstairs will call you to come home.

I remember Faldo saying years ago when I think Duval was going skiing how crazy that was as long as he was making money at golf.  Injury can ruin that kind of money maker in a second...

Also, after what happened to Paul Walker, I would never get in the passenger seat in some fast car...for fun..with gosh know who driving.  Hope Haas is ok, I pull the family since Haas lives in my home town.

Also Madison Bumgarner dirt biking during baseball season. Pretty easy to think you'r invincible sometimes I think. I hope Haas recovers and his golf remains unaffected.

Prayers to all families involved...Haas has been progressing and released from hospital, driver of Ferrari Haas was riding in which driver unfortunately did not live; god bless. Woman involved and hit head on still in serious condition. Luke Wilson I believe was actually helping as his vehicle was just clipped

What a terrible story. I hope everyone injured has a quick recovery. As for the driver killed I give my condolences to the family.

Sounds like speed was definitely a factor. The Ferrari looked absolutely mangled.

Details are still cloudy. One report I just read said that Haas was the passenger in the car and the driver that passed away was a family member. I'm sure the details will become more clear as time goes on, but it is a very sad story either way.

Seems like the reporter(?) on the scene confirmed that Haas was a passenger in the Ferrari.

The driver of a Ferrari carrying pro golfer Bill Haas was killed after crashing and rolling the Italian sports car in Los Angeles' Pacific Palisades neighborhood, police said.

Police did not identify the driver. A statement from the PGA Tour and Haas' manager, Allen Hobbs, identified the driver in Tuesday night's "serious car accident" as a member of a family with whom Haas was staying for the Genesis Open.

Driver of Ferrari identified:

Quote

  • The Golf Channel identified the driver of the Ferrari as 71-year-old Mark Gibello, a friend of Billy Harmon, who is Haas' swing coach. Gibello was hosting Haas this week in his home.
Bill's father Jay Haas told the Golf Channel that his son was "very fortunate" to avoid serious harm. Jay Haas added that Bill did not suffer any broken bones but has pain and swelling in his leg.

This was my first thought as well, but do we know that speed was a factor here?  Easy to jump to that conclusion since a Ferrari was involved but for all we know it was going 5mph and hit by a car running a red light.

The lead detective said during an interview on KTLA, speed was a contributing factor.  Also found a CNN piece suggesting the same thing.

Sad to hear someone died. Amazing that Bill wasn't seriously injured. The was a Ferrari 355 GTS, not exactly the safest.

Sad for the family of the driver and glad that Haas is ok.

But this exact scenario plays out all of the time.

Come take a ride in my new Ferrari/Porsche/Bentley Turbo-Whatever....and the supercar gets away from them.

Maybe we will learn later that the driver wasn't at fault.
