I know there are many on here that have played Sawgrass and enjoyed it, and others that believe there is a little more hype than the price warrants.

I have an opportunity to play the stadium course in the coming weeks and was curious what course conditions would be like?  I know the greens will not be arified, but interested in the course conditioning late Feb- March.

Any information you guys can share would be awesome.

Thank you

Tony

Anyone know how long it typically takes to play a round there?  I'm on a tight schedule and may try to play it later this month, but didn't want to run out of light.  Thanks in advance.

Last tee time of the day for the public is pretty early.   Pace of play is 4:45-5:15 in window of public play

We played The Stadium course today. Our tee time was at 1PM. Course condition was great. Fairways were firm, tightly mown and the ball sat up nicely. Rough was not long and quite friendly to hit out of. Greens were very firm, but, were not overly fast speed for putting. By the back nine even wedge shots were taking a few extra bounces before threatening to spin. Our forecaddie, a ypung man named Nick, was really helpful and quite good reading the greens. All things condsidered we had a great day. The only down side was the group in front of us was brutally slow and probably had enjoyed a bit too much liquid entertainment. It took us somewhere between 5 and 5.5 hours. We finished 18 as the sun was going down. I'm pretty sure not many groups behind us got all 18 in unless they finished in darkness. There were marshals riding around the course, but, it did not appear that they ever tried to inspire a quicker pace of play.

Hope this helps and you enjoy your round.

Thatís helps quite a bit.

I was told they overseeded the greens.  Oversees fairways as well, and rough left dormant?

I guess even for Florida I am a little surprised to hear greens were as firm as you stated.  Not overly fast....... fair speed, but not intimidating type speed, or had to muscle putts to get them to the hole?

Do you think the slow round would have been better had you walked?

Which tees did you play?

Most importantly, did you hit the green on 17?

I know thatís a lot of extra questions, I apologize.

Glad to hear you enjoyed your rounds.  My dad and I are looking forward to it.  He has sent me texts on numerous occasions trying to decide which tees he wants to play.

Although there were a few spots where you could see dormant Bermuda in the rough the overseed has grown in pretty nicely. The greens were firm enough that we had trouble finding ball marks. The greens have a lot of grass on them and rolled at a nice pace with the exception of uphill putts into the grain.

I'm not sure that walking would have helped with the amount of time we waited for every shot on the back nine.. It was cart path only and that didn't help the pace.

We played the blue tees. I did hit the green on 17 and made a long putt ffrom the front of the green to a back pin for birdie.

Well done good sir!!  I know it’s not the longest shot but it seems intimidating enough.

Thank you again for your time to report back for us inquiring minds.

I’ll post my experience as soon as I can

How is the Valley course at Sawgrass? Looks good and has a lot of water, which is good since I hit it so straight.

Very good.  If it were 7,200 yards itíd be tougher than the stadium

Ok.  Itís sunday morning and I will try to give my report on yesterdayís round, while trying to nurse the results of a fun evening.

It was my first real visit to the TPC so I arrived early.  Had breakfast on the back patio with the sun coming up over 18. The production of setting up all the grandstands is in full effect.  So on certain holes, you get a little bit of the feeling like the pros experience.

The golf course was in superb shape I thought for February.  As the Sunbelt mentioned, the rough still had a little of dormant spots, it was starting to come in nicely and had some gnarly spots.  Fairways were pure and the ball sat up nicely.  You got roll out in the fairways but not dry and crusty.  The greens were also very very nice.  Havenít dropped the played to tour speeds, but rolled true and had a little pace to them.

Pace of play was 5 hrs which actually could have been faster.  Two of the players in our group struggled a little on the back, but we didnít feel held up or pushe.  I can see how hard that course could be for the tour guys with tall rough, firm fast conditions and a good breeze.  There a places around the greens you just canít miss.

I did hit the green on 17.  The tees were slightly up (played 129 to a middle pin).  They had pretty much the entire back teeing area roped of for the tourney.  Here are a couple photos.  Definitely glad I had the opportunity.  There is also some cool history in the clubhouse, so if you donít feel youíll get there again, or often, take your time and look around.

Yeah, before the round we would have been thrilled if we got around in 5.5, so to finish in 5 was a pleasant surprise.  When I sent a text to my fiancť letting her know we were on 16 (she was shopping somewhere) she was shocked we were that close to finishing.

Couldnít have asked for a better day weather wise either.  Sunny 80ís and a decent breeze.

I have some time off work in april and I am wondering if I would be able to get a tee time for the players course on 4/5 or 4/6? or would it be closed for tournament prep?

Chances would be extremely slim on that

I was told when I booked my time that April 9th is last day, but that doesn’t mean it will be an empty tee sheet prior to that.  What does it hurt to try?
