I'm looking for a new stand bag to use when walking the courses. I take public transit a lot to the course, so I am looking for the lightest, most streamlined bag that is still very functional. I currently use a Callaway carry bag for those days, and then have a an older Titleist 4UP bag for when I ride or get a ride.

After lots of research I have narrowed it down to the 3 bags below. Any of you guys/girls have any recommendations or feedback on any of the bags? Any to avoid, any not worth the super-lite category? Would love some feedback if any have any of these.

thanks,

Sun Mountain 2.5+ / Titleist STADRY 4UP / Callaway Hyper-Lite Zero

No experience w/ the Titleist, but between the SM and Callaway...just buy the one you like the look of the best.  Very, very similar bags.  Doubt you'll be disappointed with either so just buy on looks if between the two, IMO.

Just got the 2018 4up StaDry.  Simple, pocket design with nice waterproof zippers, insulated water pocket, and convertible single or double carry strap.  14 clubs with oversize grips fit fine in the 4 way top. Like it so far in my office. No golf in Wisco for a while.

You didn't mention price being a factor but if you're looking to save a few bucks this might fit the bill.  https://www.globalgolf.com/golf-bags/1042619-cobra-mega-light-stand/?id=115918505818&opt=aaa&gclid=CjwKCAiAtorUBRBnEiwAfcp_Y11aw_IKNYbhOkshYmlrM0xCxlmgCClZE_EgTPjwA5UkCW-kiQvRnhoCLH8QAvD_BwE  Not sure who makes them but I won a Cobra bag last season and they are pretty quality bags from what I can tell in using mine.

Looking for some advice. Really fancy the new players 4up stadry in green. Problem is based in UK and not available here, only in USA. Any advice about how I could go about getting one? Does anyone stock them online?

I have SM 2.5+ Bag and absolutely love it. Extremely light, enough pockets to carry your essential and looks great. I have blue/gray.

I'd say 2.5+ and not even close.  The Callaway is ok, but distant 2nd to SM 2.5+ in my opinion.

Carried all three in our pro shop last year. I'd rank them in this order:

1. SM 2.5
2. Callaway Hyperlite
3. Titleist 4UP

The Callaway would rank #1 on my list based on 2017 bags, but since SM has significantly improved the construction and fabric of the 2.5 for 2018, they deserve #1.

That being said, I've found both the Callaway and SM fairly similar, and I think it would just come down to look/pocket arrangement/strap preference. The 4UP is still a great bag, but is noticeably heavier than the other two, and I find the straps uncomfortable on it. The waterproof construction is definitely a perk if you play in all conditions.

I'm bias I guess because I only own the SM. Great bag, very light, sturdy and durable. Can carry a full bag and it holds up fine.

Thank all for replies. I am going to go to my local golf shop this weekend and thoroughly test them all out. Sounds like it all comes down to personal preference at this point. Pockets may play a factor in this as I transport lots of stuff with me when I commute. Will update where I land.

Just got the Stadry 4Up. I really like it and it's probably a great bag depending on how you use it. I have to disagree about the ease of using all 14 clubs with built up grips. I can get all of them in without issue, after a while, for the most part, but the tangle and friction in removing and re-inserting clubs was noticeable in my experience. I plan to use it mostly for going to the range or the short par 3 course by me that only requires a handful of clubs. In this setup, last weekend, it worked perfectly (Driver/Hyb/Putter on top, 2 irons in each side slot, and 3 wedges in the bottom slot). Will be posting a review but probably not before you purchase a bag this weekend.

I've been carrying the 2.5+ for a few rounds now and I love the bag.  The strap system could be a touch better, but once you get them dialed in, they're fine.  Not sure on the weight of the other bags, but my 2.5+ weighed 2lbs 11oz empty.  I load just the essentials into when I walk and carry and it's no problem at all for me.

From my backpacking days, I still remember the saying, "Ounces equal pounds and pounds equal pain".  My home course has a lot of elevation change, so weight was the top priority for me in picking a carry bag.  Comfort was the number 2 and this bag hit both for me.

Yes, I was referencing the 2017 model. I have yet to see the 2018 model in person however from my understanding, all that's changed is the color options.

I have the original 2five, and the plastic started separating from the fabric after a year.  It's light and convenient to carry, but it's made me hesitant to buy another sun mountain bag.

I second that.  Inside the water bottle pocket, you can see my grips as the tent like fabric has frayed from the plastic bottom.  Going titleist 4up StaDry this year.

I have the 4up ('16 or '17) and like it a lot. I use Mid-size grips and a jumbo putter grips, and there is the occasional contratemps when removing or inseting clubs. Nothing too bad. I agree that the straps are just ok. FWIW, I will never again buy a bag that isn't waterproof. I never thought it was that big a deal, but now I realize how often I get caught in the rain, and the waterproof bag makes everything sooooooo much easier that I won't be without it again.

I believe Titleist has made several improvements to the design since I got mine.

Please let us know how you make out, because I need a new bag too.

Yesterday I was in our pro shop and saw the new Titleist stadry bags, so of course I got one. It is a huge upgrade over the '16 version. There are both large and subtle refinements. The leg mechanism is 100% better, the straps are much improved, the zippers slide more easily, four pockets instead of three (not sure if that is an improvement rather than a change), an umbrella sleeve, and an insulated drink pocket.

I don't think you can do better in the 4lb category. JMHO.

I have just got the 2.5+, it is really really light and i have 11 clubs in there with no problems at all. Big difference in the weight from my old bag and so far it seems to be what I was looking for.

Still a lot of snow here in Sweden so will be a while before I can try it on the course but seems comfortable on the back.

I finally pull the trigger and picked a bag. Went with the Sun Mountain 2.5+ as it was so much lighter than the Titleist. They both had the same pockets, but SM 2.5+ was about $25 cheaper. Too the difference and ordered a custom bag with a flag engraved on the ball pocket and removal of the SM logo on the big pocket. Will share once it comes in (3 weeks).

Thanks all!

Nice choice!   I recently picked up a SM 2.5+ myself.  Upon getting it the lightweight was quite impressive but I’ll admit it felt a little flimsy.  However, I took it out for 18 holes today for the first time and it was great.  Everything on it just worked and it was lift and comfortable.  I liked the straps, they were comfortable the whole time, and while I only carry 12 clubs for my full set I have no doubt of 14 fitting easily (and I used mid sized grips and a far putter grip).

It’s the best stand I’ve ever used too.   Deployed perfectly every time and was very stable when I set it down.

Only thing I wish it had was a small pouch inside the ball pocket area, for my pitch mark tool, ball marker, etc.
