I did this with my wedges. Here's a couple of thoughts. 1. Take the head off the shaft. 2. If you leave said shaft on the club, use someone that isnt scared and has a steady hand while holding the club. With the 58 my son would move it ever so slightly and now I have a blob instead of a skull and cross bones. Overall I'm somewhat satisfied.

I prefer to take the heads off- get a flat surface (bench, counter) I use a drill press vise, and use double-sided tape. It holds the stamp more securely and helps it from jumping on you. I learned the hard way. Look good tho!

Lol, yeah... I agree. Maybe I should have had a 6 pack.
I will say this, I got a skull and crossbones from Amazon and they just werent as sharp as the standard letter stamps I have.
I found that the double sided tape (for some reason) wasnt as tacky as I thought so I took a piece of duck tape and rolled it and put that on.

Overall I am happy with the result, just have to figure out what to do with the "blob" on the 58

It also helps if you put a strip of masking tape over where you are stamping the head. It helps you align the letters/symbols, and it will help hold the stamp in place when you're hitting it multiple times.

I'd also echo what others have said: place the head on a steel block/anvil/something harder than wood, use a vice/clamp if you can, double sided tape. Some stamps just aren't strong enough for stainless steel.

I was going for the "dancing" letters, I think that I acheived and I tried the tape with the skull but like you said, some stamps arent strong enough

^^^All of this^^^

I take the shafts out and use double sided tape on the face and then mount it to the flat part of the anvil/vice. I also use a small piece of double sided tape where I want to put the stamping, helps the stamp stay in place. Also I will first take whatever stamps needed and press them into the tape so I have sort of a template of what it will look like(hopefully) and also where to put each stamp.

As some else said, take a old wedge first and practice doing different things.
