Why bother? I like David a lot but he should stay in the booth. He was fanning them out like the Blue Angels. So much for Chris O’Connell “really helping him out”.

Played with a pretty important am, so who knows - maybe he just wanted to, good for him, maybe helping out the tournament, good for him, maybe the guy asked him, good for him, maybe he wanted a weekend away from Brandel, who wouldn't.

With a score of 236 after 3 rounds (21 over par), the former Open champion and former World #1 came in dead last.

In fairness, DD's 81 on Saturday was one of four rounds of 81 that day.

I've always liked David Duval.  He was always a cool customer. I'll always remember the old David Duval and how he used to play. Former #1 and I saw that last round 59 live.  He won the Open and was part of the Ryder Cup Team that won at Brookline.  Great dude and great announcer.   Heck he almost won the US Open in 2009 at Bethpage.  That was awesome along with Phil in the hunt.

I doubt Duval really practices a ton anymore.  I still root for him to go back to his old self, but odds are against it.  I was rooting for him at the '09 U.S. Open along with Phil, but we got Lucas Glover instead....

I just thought of something.  When DD decided to tee it up at Pebble, maybe he was thinking about the time a then over-the-hill Johnny Miller captured lightening in a bottle to win on the PGA Tour at Pebble.

And, iirc, Vaughn Taylor (?) came out of nowhere to win at Pebble, too, not so long ago?

Guys in a slump seem to find some magic at Pebble, maybe?.

He did that a couple times, latest try was few years back when he started working with Chris o Connell, didn't do that well and is now in broadcasting. Been a few guys go to Chris and seems the only one with success was kuchar

I see, so any further attempt at a true comeback sounds unlikely at this point.

Regarding DD's contributions on the golf channel I'm a big fan and I tend to respect what he has to say.

I loved watching DD in his prime.  I'm happy for him to be in a better place personally.  I hope he sticks around and gets it back, but he's definitely enjoyable in the booth to listen to.

Sad to see, he seemed a bit of an introvert back in the day but I really enjoyed his run up to #1 and his Open win. I enjoy his commentary on GC. I agree it's no longer a slump.

David still has the course record (62) at Pebble.  I'm sure the place has great memories for him.  It was tough out there this week.  The winning score wasn't lights out in spite of three days with perfect weather.

Look for more exciting and wonderful topics as we meander through late winter.

Beware at all costs - hand moisturizer ruined my golf grips.
Should I glue sequins to my golf sweater to scare off winter predators?
What’s your preferred hot soup to carry during a winter round – noodle or just plain broth?
Always forget - do bread bags go over the feet or over the sock?

I think guys forget how rarified the air is for top players that keep their form for long extended periods ... ie Mickelson, Norman, Nicklaus, Woods, Watson, Faldo etc

The golf world is littered with players that were near the top of the world and the player somehow lost it .. IBF, Westwood for a while, Immelman, Duval, Anthony Kim, etc etc.  The list is endless

There are rare late career wins ... Johnny Miller, Tom Watson to name 2 ... but again not common.  Lots of players lose their mental strength, confidence, get the yips, lose the swing or lose interest in tournament golf altogether (Miller for example)
