X59 Smart Draw Driver - $359 for a driver with no actual unbiased info (that I've seen) & no pedigree. Should be asking $200 max if they want to sell a bunch.

The entire rogue lineup. Look like womens clubs with that color scheme. They replaced the XR lineup, jacked up the prices on non adjustable fairways to $300, hybrids to $250 and $500 for drivers. The XR was their mid priced line. Can't imagine what they'll ask for the Apex and Epic line replacements.

I looked into that as I've never heard of it before.  It's $60 more expensive than the F-Max that has the same (if not probably better) technology.  I guess the one saving grace on the X59 is that it is adjustable, so you can dial it in a bit better.

Precisely.  They already had that "solution" in the T-MB, or even AP1 line.  I remember when it first got released, and I called it as a potential dud, I had a firing squad a mile long asking for my head.  Well...looks like I was right.  So many middling reviews, and many of the people who got them in long irons hate them and have changed shafts 2-3x to try and get the AP2 feel.  Titleist seriously, seriously missed the boat on this option by not adding at minimum a forged cup face.  They also missed it by charging an arm and a leg for it, but that's a different argument all together.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

To answer the question:

Irons - Rogue and M3/4 line.  You can't jack up the price $100-150 AND drop a club, effectively making the clubs $2-300 more per set.  The Rogue lineup hasn't changed at all in the looks department since the release of X2Hot, they just keep changing the cavity badge and tweaking something minute here and there.  They are creeping closer and closer to Mizuno and Srixon stock price where you can get any shaft and grip for free, while these others only offer a handful of shafts and no grips.  You cannot keep relying on your name to pull you through when you have nothing to offer.  Look at Hyundai and Kia vs. Ford and Dodge.  The Korean models have base packages that are similar, if not better loaded, but are $2-3k less.  Most people don't care what name is on it (unless they are brand loyalists) and will vote with their wallet.  Same applies to golf and I'm surprised noone has seen this.

Driver - Cleveland Launcher and Rogue.  Rogue is too heavy, and to basically take a step backwards (by offering less adjustability) is not good.  Launcher is a great club, but Cleveland drivers never sold well in the first place after the HiBore so I wouldn't be surprised to see this one waffle a bit.

I'm going to pick on Harry and Callaway here and throw a vote in for the Epic iron range... Is it a poor performing product? No, I don't think so. But...

1. Blatant copying of the PXG "we spared no expense on materials marketing line"
2. Blatant copying/rush to throw Epic irons out after the success of the driver when they already had Steelhead, Apex out plus new X Forged and Rogue on the way.
3. The new Rogue irons look almost exactly the same as the Epic irons at 1/3 of the price?

I like Callaway products (see sig) and usually appreciate their marketing (I think they do the best in the industry of being unique with their digital content, etc.) but this was just an insult to their fans.

TM was not really being original when they came up with the thought of creating a red putter... it just never caught on until some big name was using one and winning.

I wasn't thrilled with any '18 hybrid releases either

I agree on the hybrids. It seems that outside of the SGI market hybrids have scaled down to a decent size across the board for most OEMs, but you really never see any players hybrids that are small. I miss the Adams Pro Black/Pro Mini, Nike VR Pro, Cally XR Pro and other hybrids like this. With utilities becoming so popular I think they have basically replaced them. The Callaway Apex hybrid is my current favorite, seems to be popular on tour too. The JDM market seems to still carry a decent amount of small players hybrids (Romaro, A-Grind, PRGR).

If you like the Adams Pro Black you should see if the M3 suits your eye.  It's a bit bigger than a Pro Black, I liken it to the a12pro.  The crown graphics definitely arent for everyone either.

I agree that this thread has a few ways people could interpret it.  Does 'worst' mean the most disappointing?  Does it mean the 'ugliest'?  Does it mean you don't believe in the 'tech' in it?  Triton is low hanging fruit because it checks two of those boxes (I wasn't expecting anything great so i wasn't disappointed.)

Greetings from the Winter Olympics in South Korea! Time change is killing my sleep — 14 hours ahead of East Coast, so why not go on the forums to see what golfwrxers are talking about?

This is an entertaining thread. Golfers are so passionate, you have to love that. My favorite criticism so far is that Mizuno irons are “too flat.” (You can bend them.)

Anyway, what we can say with certainty is that people draw many conclusions based on looks alone. You’ve got to consider what is under the hood, so to speak. The X2 Hot irons are really not like the new Rogue irons. Manufacturing and materials used on the Rogue are far more advanced. To see the Rogue get listed here as worst new club out there means people are looking at a photo and making a declaration. They don’t like the look or see a look similar to something older.

I am guilty of it. When Rogue was released, my instant reaction was I did not like the look. And then I saw them in person and thought the Pro head looked good, a high-tech look, to be sure, but better looking in hand. So I took a few cuts. Only took about five swings with demo Pro head, so not extensive testing. But when I have time I am going to test it more and also the Wilson C300 Forged. My prediction is the Rogue Irons, especially the Pro, will be popular once people start testing them because however Callaway did it with the urethane ‘microspheres,’ they feel great at impact and explosive — ball speed is high. The price is $125 per club, not up there with the priciest. And probably can find sets for less per club.

To me, what the Rogue tells us is there is little reason to pay more for the Epic (or PXG or Titleist concept) though the Rogue may be a bit more of a GI club than the Epic heads.

One more thing: Seoul is a world-class city. If you ever get a chance to visit, do it. Impressive. The people are wonderful, very welcoming to Americans.

Greetings from the Winter Olympics in South Korea! Time change is killing my sleep — 14 hours ahead of East Coast, so why not go on the forums to see what golfwrxers are talking about?

This is an entertaining thread. Golfers are so passionate, you have to love that. My favorite criticism so far is that Mizuno irons are "too flat." (You can bend them.)

Anyway, what we can say with certainty is that people draw many conclusions based on looks alone. You've got to consider what is under the hood, so to speak. The X2 Hot irons are really not like the new Rogue irons. Manufacturing and materials used on the Rogue are far more advanced. To see the Rogue get listed here as worst new club out there means people are looking at a photo and making a declaration. They don't like the look or see a look similar to something older.

My prediction is the Rogue Irons, especially the Pro, will be popular once people start testing them because however Callaway did it with the urethane 'microspheres,' they feel great at impact and explosive — ball speed is high.

Have you ever lined up the Callaway irons in back to back?  The XR, Steelhead, and Rogue have an identical blade shape, topline, and offset, at least visually.

Taylormade CGB irons...Like who are these even for?

I actually thought these performed pretty well and are not really that bad looking. The over 60 crowd and anyone looking for max forgiveness and length off a moderate swing would benefit.

Now as for looks if you really want an ugly club... I think hands down the Cleveland Launcher HB irons win. I've no idea how they perform but they have a "face" that even a mother would put a bag over.

What bounce is that topline?  :taunt:

I have not. Really only looking at the Rogue Pro, maybe a standard Rogue 4 iron. I don’t love hybrids and have found with these newer iron designs (also see Ping G700) I don’t have to.

The Steelhead seems a little longer heel to toe and has more offset, at least that is what I recall. I did not care for the Steelhead overall. I thought the XR Pro was underrated for performance, but hitting them, they did not feel great.

Where the Rogue takes a step forward is it is both easy to hit with a hot face that felt really good to me. The urethane definitely makes a difference. I did note a two-tone chrome/satin topline with subtle bevel to make it appear thinner than it is. Hard to get a thin topline in a cupface design because they need room within the head for the cupface to flex.

Maybe not the club for purists, but that does not make it a terrible invention. Some people may not enjoy hitting the ball far with an explosive, awesome feel at impact, but I do.
