Hi there,

1 week ago, I bought a Mizuno MP18 fli hi 2 iron with an upgraded shaft (Aldila tour Green 3.7 torque, Stiff) on eBay. The shaft broke today after I drove off the tee... Not only I'm disappointed but also I think that the guy that sold me this tricked me a little bit: the iron tip is .355 diameter and the shaft is meant to be .335 in these specs :bb: .First question, I'm wrong or did he put a wrong shaft cause of diameter? It could explain why it broke.

Second question: now the harm is done, I'm looking for a new graphite shaft in .355 for my 2 iron, any idea of a good replacement shaft?

Kisses from France,

Cyril

Hi Cyril,

Nothing to be done unfortunately about the Tour Green.  It is not a shaft that Mizuno offers, so there is no warranty at all.  As for shafts that would be similar, the Project X LZ Tour would be similar, it weighs in at 83g I believe for long irons (so only marginally heavier than what was currently in there), has an almost identical torque rating (feel) to what was in there, and is a very stable shaft with a penetrating ball flight.

If you do some scrolling through this Clubmakers Forum, there was a topic on this shaft late last week/early this week that provides some insight.

Good luck.

Was probably a hybrid shaft that was sanded down to fit in. Common practice but obviously runs more of a risk.

Tensei Pro White Hybrid.  It’s a weapon in a driving iron.

Thanks for the suggestions guys, I'll compare what's better for me. Boring out the head is quite hard, isn't it? I mean it's hard to drill a hole perfectly straight

To close this topic, I listened to some of you: I bought a Tensei White hybrid shaft Stiff in .370. Know I'll look for topics that deal with boring out a club head! A big thx to the forum

Don't do it yourself if its your first time.  You could muck it up beyond repair.  Find a reputable club builder that can do it.  Another option is to shave down the shaft (carefully) so it fits snugly in the .355 head.

It's not hard. Hosel is already 0.370 and goes down to 0.355 just for the tip. Don't use a regular drill bit but instead get a reamer... they look like that https://www.golfwork...amers/p/GW0115/
Then use a t-handle tap holder to bore out your head. Because the reamer already goes into the hosel about half way you don't have to worry about anything.

Hum, two very different information here ^^ I must do it myself as no one in my region will do it (yes it’s not the US and all its clubmaking...)

Isn’t using a T handle exhausting ? How can I make sure I bore out without modifying lie and loft ?

Thank you guys

I would taper the shaft but I would certainly understand being hesitant based on your previous experience.

Thank you guys

You have no idea how easy it is to remove .015" of metal when your reamer is sharp. Not sure what to tell you... maybe you should have someone do it for you if you're having all these questions.
