2012 Ryder Cup, Medinah CC. I was working on my Class A as a PGA intern. We picked and sorted the various range balls. Easy but epic job compared to working a full field pga Tour event.

Fun stories:
They brought in an electric range cart, it was much faster, smoother, quieter than any other ranger picker Ive previously driven (oooo baby).
Poulter was having fun trying to hit me in the cart.

On the USA range, we found the ball furtherest from the tee...NIKE!! Which was super surprising because I thought DJ and Bubba were deeper than Tiger.

Great memories working the Miracle at Medinah.

In my 11 years as host PGA professional to a Web.com event we have had two suppliers of range balls specifically for the event...  For the first 8 years Bridgestone was the sponsor and for several years they shipped in a pallet of E6 balls and the final two years of their contract they actually delivered the B330.  After the event was over, Bridgestone donated all of the range balls to the local junior programs.

The last three years Titleist has been the supplier of the range balls and all have been Prov1X with "PRACTCE" stamped on the side.  Needless to say we always had a much lesser quantity at the end of the event which wasn't appreciated because the rep and Titleist picked up the golf balls... what they did with them I don't know.  Web.com, LPGA, and Champions Tour events all will used the same golf ball on the range.

The PGA Tour, as mentioned here, is completely different.  I've been fortunate to qualify, through our PGA Section Championship, in three FedEx St. Jude Classic events in Memphis.  Every golf ball (I'd say 9 out of 10) that the professionals use are available to them to practice and warm up on the range with the ProV1/V1X taking up over half of the supply.  The only players that can't play the ball of choice is if they continue to use an older model or "star" versions of popular models.  I know the Head Professional has been typically in charge of overseeing the pick-up, cleaning, sorting, and re-supply of the range balls.  This may seem like a pretty easy task, but on Tuesday's when the range is packed to the gill it's a pretty intense situation and usually staff is busting their a** to keep up with the ball supply!!!

When I got to play in a pro am at the JDC last year my caddy walked over to the booth like he owned the place and got me some Bridgestones!

You know, I really think they should have to hit the old dimpleless range balls the rest of us do.

Perfect range balls, Perfect greens, Perfect bunkers.  Jeez, these guys should shoot 59 or better every single round.

They should be warming up having to wonder if that double breaking hook-then-slice they just hit was them, or was it that cracked golf ball that made a funny noise like the rest of us.

On top of that, they have galleries, tents, stands, etc to knock down and locate their wayward tee shots.

Yep, brand new Titleist Balatas, just like Tin Cup said.

Sneak a few in the bag, we swipe enough free sh*t, we might pay for this fiasco!

Godamnit someone hurry the hell up and make another beaut of a movie like this one...

For years, when I was a young kid in the late sixties, I got several dozen Titleists from the Greater Greensboro Open.  What a jackpot that was!  I saved them for real rounds and tournaments only.  I felt like a total baller.... til they ran out.  Aside from those, playing with actual new golf balls was a rare occurrence.

I've seen in the past that each player uses their regular ball when they're on the range at tour events. Who supplies those? Does say Titleist bring a bunch of practice ProV's for their guys? And then when the range gets picked does somebody have to sit there and separate out each type of ball? Just curious

Yes, volunteers separate the balls.  Those balls get shipped around to tourneys for practice. Not sure how long they are used or how many tourneys they get out of them though.

The balls are brand new at each event.

And old balls are donated to programs like The First Tee
