Yep. And it was $160 on a TGW.com one day sale earlier this week ($200-20%).

My credit card has price protection so I filed a claim to get the difference from what I paid reimbursed.

how does the new strap system feel carrying the bag one shouldered? looks more of a backpack style where as the x system was essentially a straight strap with another that allowed it to be carried two shoulder?

I wanted to provide an updated response to your question after having used the bag a few more times.  While I may have said that the bag carries a little too upright, I don't think that's a fair answer.  I don't know about you, but when I carry a bag using only strap, that same arm is somewhere on the bag keeping it steady, balanced, and less upright.  I originally did not do this cause I sought out to provide a technical answer without any outside influence, like a supporting arm or hand.

After playing quite a few more times, I can say that the bag really does carry nice on one strap when I use it like I a normal human being.  The straps are simply very well ergonomically designed.

Hope this helps.

The strap system is one of my favorite parts of the Hoofer. I carry single strap for mostly shorter distances on the course, but find that I use single strap almost exclusively from car to house or course. That could be a deal breaker for me. Fortunately I'll get 5 years easy with my 2017.

I do really like that magnetic pocket though. I carry my range finder in the zippered upper pocket (where is says hoofer) in the elastic pouch currently.

Just posted an update on single strap carry.  Long story short, it's quite nice.

Yep.  Crazy I know, but maybe WRXer above has a point about Ping not moving as much as they thought.

does the cart strap area do a better job of reducing bag twisting in the cart and constriction around the shafts, compared to previous models?

I previously had the '17 Hoofer and the only reason I upgraded so soon was because I had a store credit at my local golf shop that was burning a hole in my pocket.

The biggest differences I've noticed from last year's model to this year's are:

- Magnetic pocket.  This is my favorite new feature cause it fits my large Bushnell X7 rangefinder easily.  This was a smaller zippered pocket in the 2017 model and didn't easily fit my X7.  I ended up using this pocket to hold my tees last year.

- The main apparel pocket is bigger this year but I don't put a bunch of stuff in there anyway so I really can't tell the difference.

- The water bottle pocket is significantly better in the new model.  It's a lot more flexible and holds much larger bottles, the quart sized Gatorade for example fits fine.

- No more X strap system, however the new straps are very comfortable.  I've yet to walk a round with the new bag so I'll report back on how it feels soon.

- Design.  At first I didn't care for the much smaller PING logo on the apparel pocket but the color combination I went with far outweighed that.

The one thing that's consistent and the best thing I like about Hoofers is the quality and durability of the bags.  These things are tanks.

If you have a question that wasn't answered here, I'd be happy to help.

I love the color on the OP's bag. Anyone using the Hoofer 18 on a push cart?

Yup. Kills me that people accept/gloss over this when other bags don't have this issue.

about time to break down and get a new bag. all i hear about when it comes to ping bags is their tangle, yet they are consistently ranked pretty high. is this really a problem. i'm wanting a bag that will be on a cart majority of time but still able to carry occasionally.

should i skip over the hoofer because of the tangle with so many other options.

Yes, tangle is terrible.  Otherwise a great bag.  Those that don't think it's a big deal have gotten used to it or never tried a non-tangle brand.

I picked up the '18 and have 3 rounds with it. Went with the divider model. I do GP White 2Gs which are notorious for club tangle.

Initially was getting tangle on the clubs and starting disassembling the bag to see what was up.  The culprit for me was the stupid rain cover that is packed into the hip pad.  It actually pushes the toward the center of the bag creating a ton of tangle.  After I took out the rain cover I haven't had any major tangle issues.

It's generally not as bad on a cart, as the pivoting of the bottom "hoof" when putting the bag down with the stand deployed is what causes the tangle. It bunches everything together.

I have been a Hoofer loyalist for a long time, but moved to Sun Mountain this winter.

I never understood why PING doesn’t use full length dividers on both the standard and 14 models.  I cannot imagine it could possibly add much weight for some cheap synthetic fabric to go all the way to the bottom?

Thats the only reason I never get a hoofer again. A shame.. otherwise a nice bag. Like the 5 way top, straight walls, not the bending type that takes all clubs at the sides of the bag.. Maybe ping realise full length dividers are importent in future. But hey..

They have no incentive to change - people still buy the bags and they still win all kinds of awards for them. It's baffling. I love Ping but their bags are a** - the tangle is real, constant, and makes for an unpleasant experience between shots.

I recently purchased this bag as well, it is AMAZING! I have had previous hoofers and was not pleased, I still have a 20 year old hoofer that is truly a tank. I previously had a SM 3.5 that was good but cannot compare to this. It’s well worth the price, check TGW, they are $199.95 and are available for discounting unlike Ping clubs. I got mine for 159.95, w/ free 2 day air, a steal!!!

Budgetgolf has the Hoofer for $144 shipped after discount code.  PING must not be doing well with this bag, they never allow discounts on any of their products.  2018 Hoofer is the only exception I've seen.

I love Ping bags and have owned many, my current is a MY 16 bag, but the one thing I've noticed is that the club divider does not seem to go down to the very bottom any more on these bags and the clubs seem to get tangled when pulling them out? Maybe what was said above? Other than that it's a great bag. OP I like the color combo of yours except those hideous head covers you have! Man are those ugly, see you at the end of the year ;-) LOL!

Lifting the Hoofer Lite up in the shop with the SM 4.5, weight seemed comparable. Lite was not 3.5 Lite. Ping doesn't give specs as to weight. The Hoofer seemed heaver than the 4.5, more like a 5.5. The Hoofer material is heavier than the SM and has so many pockets, and there is the magnetic pocket - adds weight.

I went from a 2.5 to hoofer, pick the bags up and the 2.5 is stupid light in comparison, pick the bags up and walk 18 and I have not noticed any difference so far. the hoofer just carries very well and better quality construction.

flying with my bag this week so still tempted to just take the 2.5 just to save weight for the 23kg limit.

I believe you've got differing design philosophies between SM and Ping - SM has an extended series of stand bags from very light to a more stable and heavier carry. Ping seems to go for more stability from the start and the result is a heavier bag. Does the heavier bag result in more fatigue? That's a question for each individual because strap design matters.

Weight on hoofer is more like a sm 4.5. Hoofer lite/ 4 series is more like a 3.5. Only minor differences in weight, like .5 pounds

The most important factor in deciding on these bags isn’t weight so much but bulk. How much space you want the bag to take up and how much you plan on carrying. It’s much easier moving around a 2.5 vs a 4.5 not because of the weight but because it’s so small. The differences in weight we are talking is minor. The big difference in weight will come from all the stuff you throw in your bag. Got guys carrying around a dozen shag balls, 300 tees, markers, bug spray, sun protection, rangefinders etc etc

Go walk 9 holes with an empty bag of sm4.5 and a sm 2.5. At the end you aren’t going to be anymore fatigued between the two because of their weight

I see your point, but when one is 60+,  I want every ounce of savings with a balanced carry. The only item I carry that is more than is needed for 9 holes is 32 oz of water. Tees and ball marker are in my pocket, the valuables has a cc and cash, aspirin, 7 balls ( could reduce that), rangefinder, glove, snack, water 13-14 clubs, only a couple of headcovers.

Speaking of designs, between the SM 3.5 and Hoofer, which has the most comfortable shoulder straps?
