I previously had the '17 Hoofer and the only reason I upgraded so soon was because I had a store credit at my local golf shop that was burning a hole in my pocket.

The biggest differences I've noticed from last year's model to this year's are:

- Magnetic pocket.  This is my favorite new feature cause it fits my large Bushnell X7 rangefinder easily.  This was a smaller zippered pocket in the 2017 model and didn't easily fit my X7.  I ended up using this pocket to hold my tees last year.

- The main apparel pocket is bigger this year but I don't put a bunch of stuff in there anyway so I really can't tell the difference.

- The water bottle pocket is significantly better in the new model.  It's a lot more flexible and holds much larger bottles, the quart sized Gatorade for example fits fine.

- No more X strap system, however the new straps are very comfortable.  I've yet to walk a round with the new bag so I'll report back on how it feels soon.

- Design.  At first I didn't care for the much smaller PING logo on the apparel pocket but the color combination I went with far outweighed that.

The one thing that's consistent and the best thing I like about Hoofers is the quality and durability of the bags.  These things are tanks.

If you have a question that wasn't answered here, I'd be happy to help.

How is the material on the 2018 compare to the 2017?  Someone was telling me the 2018 has a thicker more durable material compared to the 2017 but I have not been able to compare them yet.

It’s strong but I wouldn’t say it’s any thicker or more durable.

Straps look thinner in the pics, is that accurate?  Also, I assume the 'sliding strap' adjustment system is gone?

While I don’t have the older one anymore to compare side to side, I think the newer straps are slightly narrower. I will say that the new straps FIT the shoulders noticeably better.

how do you like the valuables pocket? When I checked out the new ones, it's just a hard thin pocket, doesn't have the any lining anymore

I might check them out and see if I can order a set if I like the straps better.  I do prefer the looks of the previous model.

how does the new strap system feel carrying the bag one shouldered? looks more of a backpack style where as the x system was essentially a straight strap with another that allowed it to be carried two shoulder?

I got to see the 2018 Hoofer and Hoofer Lite. The magnetic pocket is cool, and the straps seem sleeker, however I definitely prefer the look of the previous model. One negative in my opinion is the switch to the Sun Mountain style double straps connection.  Seems like it doesn't work as well as a single strap for short carries (would definitely still work ok, just probably not as good as previous Hoofer).

I do think the Hoofer Lite looks better than the 4 Series from last year, but I honestly don't see the point of either bag.  When you compare a Hoofer to a Hoofer Lite/4 Series they seem to weigh the exact same amount but the Hoofer Lite/4 Series is such a tighter fit for a full set and has less features.  It's just not the same in my opinion as say a Sun Mountain 3.5 vs a 2.5, where you give up some features with the 2.5 but are shedding relevant weight.

However, all of these bags are really good and it comes down to personal preferences.

The 4 series was definitely lighter and more compact than the hoofer. It weighed 4 pounds, hoofer was approx. 5. Not sure why you have the 2.5 bag on there as a comparison to 4 series? The 4 series comparison was the sun mountain 3.5 and the hoofer comparison was the sun mountain 4.5.

4 Series is listed as being lighter, what I'm saying is that when you pick them up side by side there's hardly a difference.  3.5 vs 2.5 is a good analogy in my opinion.

The difference is the same as picking up a 3.5 vs 4.5. 2.5 vs 3.5 is not a good analogy, don't understand why you think it is when they are obviously different weights. 4series/3.5  hoofer/4.5 always been

I carried 9 holes for the first time yesterday and the bag felt great. As for using only a single strap, when I do carry the bag like this, it’s only for really short walks, probably less than 20 yards. The bag does carry a little too upright like this but again, it’s for a very short distance.

I got the normal Hoofer with 5 way divider. Club tangle is nowhere near perfect however it doesn’t bother me. To me, all of the other features like pockets and most importantly build quality far outweigh the little club tangle I may experience from time to time.

I don’t agree because it’s wrong, not about opinion. 4 series is bigger and weighs more than 2.5. It’s a fact and on the websites, 4 series is aprox. 4.5 pounds, sun mt 2.5 is 2.8 pounds. Pockets are smaller and only 5 on the 2.5+, the 4 series has 7 pockets.  a “pick up test” doesn’t matter, lol. It’s a fact

I'd go for the 2017 model (and did recently).  Prefer the looks and straps, and it was about $50 cheaper.  However, you can't go wrong with either, they're very similar.

The strap system is one of my favorite parts of the Hoofer. I carry single strap for mostly shorter distances on the course, but find that I use single strap almost exclusively from car to house or course. That could be a deal breaker for me. Fortunately I'll get 5 years easy with my 2017.

I do really like that magnetic pocket though. I carry my range finder in the zippered upper pocket (where is says hoofer) in the elastic pouch currently.

Yep, that's where I place my rangefinder, too.  Perfect place for it, don't have to bend over.
