Hello all, just looking for a bit of advice. I bought a putter off of eBay last week Jan 25th.

Seller said he shipped on the 27th and that it should have arrived on the 30th. When I asked for tracking he was unable to provide it, couldn't find the receipt.

His feedback is 100% with a lot of transactions, 676. His communication has been great, we have emailed and text. I know I am protected and really have no reason to doubt him but when or should I file a claim? He said he would take care of it no matter what he had to do, reimburse or refund.

Just have him refund me first or file a claim??

I haven't reached out to eBay yet, just wanted to get advise first on how long I should give it and what exactly should be done first. Thanks.

One thing to note is that I recently moved and a few deliveries have been delayed for whatever reason. I'm in a kind of county island but with a city zip code. Deliveries have been sent to the wrong PO and have been re-routed to other PO's delaying 2-3 days.

Did he not upload a tracking # to ebay? I think it's a little too early to file a claim, being 2 days behind schedule via USPS shipping isn't unheard of by any means.

No, he said he dropped it off at the post office on the 27th and can't find tracking. Just wondering what is a reasonable time frame is. His communication has been very good through the process.

I would wait little longer before file the claim. Next week or so. Seller is going to loose the claim 100% no matter what since he/she did not provide the tracking number. Dumb move by the seller.

Yeah, I'll give it to next week sometime. I'm sure it's just a delay in the shipping. Not sure why, but seeing the rare and random horror story get's me a little paranoid for some reason, I'm sure it's all good.

The seller does not have the receipt from the usps?
Of course it will have the tracking on it.

Did he use usps click and ship from his account?
Of course his account will have the shipping info which includes the tracking.

He lost the receipt. I'm guessing instead of printing the postage from ebay he just took it to the PO.

If he is a large ebay seller he certainly has a usps account and tracking is available there!
OR if paypal was used and he used paypal to print the postage, the tracking is there.

It could be. But cant afford to loose the receipt after sold over $400 putter. I don't know. That is just me.

Call USPS, give them your name, number, and address (the one your package was sent to) ask them to track it based on your info. They can do that. If they don't find it contact the seller.

Give it 2 weeks then file a claim. He should want you to file a claim so that he gets his final value fee back when he refunds you

Can't comment on the seller losing the tracking number, but I can say that I've had 2-3 packages in the last 2 weeks get delayed in transit with USPS Priority Mail.  One package was delayed for 2 weeks, another ended up in SF (I'm in ATL) and was delayed a week.  USPS said that a lot of flights being affected in the NE created a giant log jam of packages.

Hope that's the case. I'll reach out to my post office as well. Spoke to my carrier and he has not seen anything as of yet. I'm sure all is fine and that it's held up.

Where are you located, and where is the package coming from? I currently have a package held up in Des Moines. I’m told it’s because of weather. Been that way for two days.

I just bought a Scotty Circle T and had a similar experience. I was provided a tracking number but it wasnt showing any activity. After 3 days I was getting concerned and the guy ended up going to the USPS facility he dropped it off at to find that they were holding it because the postage was short (i.e. he paid $9 when he printed the postage stamp on eBay but they required $14).
Might ask the guy to go to the post office and check if it ever shipped...and get a tracking number if he has to re-ship.

Opened up a did not receive request. Seller refunded immediately but it was an eCheck through ebay? What's an eCheck? Does it just show up in my paypal? I saw it takes up to 5 days to clear.

I can’t imagine a high volume seller not buying his postage through eBay and having the tracking immediately post to PayPal and your eBay account.

That is VERY  Strange but  Perhaps irrelevant at this point.

I can tell you I’ve had two packages take unusually long to get to me in the last couple of months..  Weather unrelated.

I had a shaft take 10 days to get to me from Cleveland last month.  It’s not even a 2 hour drive to Columbus. The package just stopped doing  tracking updates after 2 days.  Vanished. The  Seller refunded me after 8 days and 2 days later it showed up.  I paypaled the money back to him.

Last month I had a small padded envelope take 9 days to get to me from Missouri. No reason. Same thing.  Just stopped giving updates after 2 days. Seller volunteered a refund or replacement but I decided to give it more time. It finally showed.

Big difference however...in both cases I had tracking numbers to know the packages actually shipped.

And I can’t help on an echeck.  Never heard of it or used it. If you payed with PayPal you should get PayPal back I would think.

typically the shipping info on his ad page will state how long a time the seller has to ship the item. For me I would be uncomfortable not having any shipping info specially since you paid for it. You are protected but sucks to be waiting with no info at all about shipping.

Im going to take this opportunity to recommend everyone sign up for USPS Informed Delivery. Its very similar to the services from UPS and FedEx. You can login and see a dashboard with your pending packages and mail each day so youd know in this situation if the seller had actually shipped your item as it would show up in your dashboard regardless of whether he had provided you a tracking number. You also get Daily Digest emails with mail/packages being delivered that day. Its worked very well for me so far.

USPS has been very flaky lately. I sent something Priority to Calif and it got there 2 days later. Meanwhile I ordered something from my HOME state, the seller sent it immediately (per tracking) and it took 8 days to get to me.

And if you're already having trouble with the P.O.

echeck is apparently backed via Paypal so it should be fine.

But OP, did you pay via Paypal ? If so, one would think you'd simply be refunded that way.

How did the seller say he sent it ? Regular mail or Priority ?

I'm thinking you'll probably see the putter in the next few days or so - maybe a week. But who knows ? :dntknw:

If the seller paid for shipping from paypal, and only had the buyers payment in the account, then there would not be enough money to refund.  This defaults to the linked bank account for the refund.  That's the echeck which has to clear before the buyer gets his money.

Interesting turn of events OP. I'm surprised he'd refund immediately if he did indeed ship it, which is what concerns me. I'd love to hear the seller's explanation. Best of luck and keep us posted.

Agree, I've experienced several delays by USPS as a seller lately.  Have had more than one '2-3 day' Priority Mail packages take over 2 weeks.

Opened up a did not receive request. Seller refunded immediately but it was an eCheck through ebay? What's an eCheck? Does it just show up in my paypal? I saw it takes up to 5 days to clear.

Thanks.

This, if he's going to take care of it "no matter what", let him take care of it. Patience is a virtue grass hoppa.

I don't think some are reading the post. No need to give a bad mark if he's willing to take care of bid-ness.

Yep, I missed that one.

Same here, USPS has been flaky for past month for me as well... several packages getting bounced back and forth, is shipped, arrive here in a couple days, then shipped out somewhere else, then back to my city, then to me.  One occurrence wouldn't stand out, but it's happened with several packages in the past few weeks, both Priority Mail and 1st Class Mail.    Not sure what is going on but it gets annoying.
