I consider myself a clean ball snob. I donít mean that I need $4 balls, but I need clean balls. If I find a ball in the woods I will rarely pick it up unless it is in pristine condition.

Iím not good enough to really know the difference (20ish handicapper). But golf is 90% mental right? When Iím hitting a scuffed or dirty ball I have no confidence in it.

To make it even more ridiculous, my typical playing partner is good. He played in college and on some mini tours. He always plays Nike Mojo but he will pick up and hit any ball he finds, regardless of condition. It makes me feel silly when Iím being picky about the ďnewnessĒ of a ball and he shoots 74 and I shoot 95.

Anybody else like me?

I don't pick up found balls - no reason, I just don't.

I'll swap out my ball if it gets a scuff in a tournament - if I'm playing with buddies I'll keep using it but I won't start with a used ball. I throw them in a shag bag after the round and use those when working on shortgame before work.

I will pick up and use a ball I find if it is a) exactly the same type of ball I am currently using and b) not visibly damaged.

So basically when I was playing ProV1x I'd get maybe two or three balls a month for "free". If playing anything else, I might find a "free" one of the right type and undamaged once or twice a year.
Everything has its drawbacks, as the man said when his mother-in-law died, and they came down upon him for the funeral expenses.

I seem to have gotten worse about this over the last few years, but I've also played much more tournament golf as opposed to casual golf over the past couple of years.

In a tournament, it's not worth it to me to force the issue with a scuffed ball and I'll replace it immediately. Casual rounds I'm a little more lenient but not much. With two kids, golf is fewer and farther in between and I don't like to force the issue with a beat up ball.

My wife's uncles were drooling over my shag bag collection at Christmas. I sent them home with a grocery store bag full of lightly scuffed ProVx's each.

Funny, I only pick up and keep balls that I am playing or have played.  I don't like ProVs so I will give them to a playing partner (no matter who I'm playing with, they never turn them down).  If it's a Pinnacle or anything similar, I won't even pick it up unless I was trying to identify if it was my ball.

I only pick up my own balls, the condition of the found ball(s) doesn't matter to me... The fact that it's lost suggests it doesn't behave.

I usually give everything I find to the person I am riding with.  Most of my usual cart buddies lose 10-12 balls a round so I try to help them out.

I pick up everything I see unless they are cut.

I Clean them and throw them in my ďrange bagĒ (canvas shopping bag) once a week.  Then Every couple of months I hit ďrealĒ balls on the range for free.

Iím terrible. Iíll pick up anything/everything as long as there is no chance that it belongs to somebody. These all end up in a 5-gallon pail of balls for my kids. As far as play/practice though, I only use a single ball (make/model/version). Once I settle on that in the spring, other than range balls, nothing else touches my clubs. I wonít even use the standard practice balls that my course puts out on the practice greens and short game areas. Consistency, right? At least thatís what I keep telling myself.

I am pretty particular about what ball I play. I hope end to find a ball I like and stick with it, until itís discontinued or a newer model come out and I donít like it. Iíve had many over the years but right now my favorite is the Srixon Zstar XV-2017 model.

I like playing a clean ball too. I will pick up top end balls I find but I rarely wind up playing them.

I have a similar theory but it pertains to water balls.  I don't retrieve any balls from the water.  I feel they like the water and want to go back there as soon as possible.  Typically I will pickup a found ball in the woods.  If its the ball I play and is in good shape I will keep it.  Anything else goes to my partners or just goes in the cart and usually ends up in a bucket in the cart barn that many people go picking through at our course.

On the first tee, I like a new ball to start the day off right. If/when I lose it, I will grab any ball from my bag, dirty, scuffed - I don't care.

I'm more of a pristine club guy, wipe off after every shot.  Mortified by clubs with the caked on dirt or even dirt filled grooves; and how about drivers that haven't been wiped down and you can see dozens and dozens of ball imprints on the face.

I generally pick up whatever I find, a friend of mine has a farm so he launches tons of them in his personal driving range.  As for what I would keep, generally has to be excellent condition and something I either play currently or would like to try.  For example last year I found a TP5, kept it so could try it.  Sadly this didn't work out that well as I hit it like 5 times before a pull hook ended that experiment.

If I am sure the ball is lost and it is in good shape I will take it.  If it is a ball that I like or wanted to try it goes in the bag otherwise it is left in the cart for the younger guys/gals that clean the clubs and cart.  I don't bother with the ratty looking ones.

Unless the found ball is battered it goes in the practice bag or the large bin we keep for balls for our free junior lessons.
