I will try to be brief.  I recently bought 4 dz 2016 Pro V1x Mint/No logo golfballs from them.  On there website where you choose the grade of ball there is no mention of Refurbished balls.  You either have to look at their grading scale or scroll to the bottom of the page, well below the ordering part to see the word refurb.  All other grades are used/recycled so you wouldn't just assume refurb.  It doesn't say refurb in the cart or on the order confirmation.  It says "Mint No Logo"  You don't see refurb on anything until shipping notifications and event then you have to look hard to see it.  Well needless to say I wasn't happy to get 48 refurb golf balls.  I called immediately (yesterday)  but they were closed at 4 pm West coast time.  They are in Texas and close at 5 local time.  So I sent an email explaining my dissatisfaction and that I thought there web page is miss leading.  I called a few occasions, at different times, trying to get through today, getting a message saying they were busy with another customer and finally after several rings asking me to leave a message.  I left another message.  I have heard nothing.  I would think that they would want to resolve an issue with an unhappy customer asap.  Am I expecting too much to hear back in one day?  Has anyone had a similar experience?  I ordered from them about 2 years ago and had a great experience.  Just seems weird but again I could be wrong.  That is why I am asking you.  Thanks.

I think it’s pretty clear on their website.

There’s a link “see grading scale” that makes it easy too see.

Also, just under where you select the grade, there is the grading scale.

You obviously ordered “mint no logo”, when you should have ordered “mint (5a)”.

I’d give them a break. You ordered the wrong ball. Just be a little more patient and I’m sure they’ll work with you to get it fixed.

I am sorry I wasn't clear with my post. I wasn't questioning whether the website was misleading.  I was questioning if I should expect the company getting back to me in a day.  The site is clearly misleading. If you don't mind taking a few seconds and follow these steps.  This is exactly how I ordered. 1. Goto lostgolfballs.com. 2) click on the big V1/V1x banner  3) find the 2016 V1x bucket on page 2 4) Click on the Button for Mint No Logo (don't click on the description)  I know what ball I want and then click Add to Cart.  5) When you get to the cart, look at the order.  At any time do you see the word Refurbished or refurb?  If I have to go to the grade page to see the word refurb, that is not clear to a consumer.  They are not the same and should be marked as such in my opinion.  The only reason I saw the other listing was when I got the balls I went back to see if I made a mistake.  If it is a mater of saving space on the web site how about putting refurb rather than no logo.  Same amount of letters. I will take your advice however and give them a break and wait a couple days for them to respond.

When you say "refurbished" you actually mean "refinished", right?

I agree with you, if I go to purchase it is not clear that I am buying "refinished" golf balls.

It should say "refinished" in parenthesis next to the actual item in the cart.

Having it on the grading scale page is not enough, since someone may never look there. As you've said.

How soon they get back to you is up for debate...but they should definitely change their website.

I am sorry.  Yes the balls are labeled "Refinished".  Everything that I said above is the same, just replace the word refurbished with refinished.  Thanks.

It cost me about $30 to learn this lesson. Always approach used golf balls with caution and check carefully to ensure you are selecting exactly what you intend to purchase. I have found re-fins to be a subpar ball and if I have any they will be used in the fall when balls disappear easily. Ick, I say.

They have recently changed their website to make the "refinished" part a little less obvious and I'd say they are flying off the shelves now to unhappy or unknowing customers, I don't care to play a pre hit ball, but in my opinion, there was a reason a ball needed to be totally "refinished" and it was probably because it was pretty destroyed or so yellowed from sitting in water for an extended time. If it were in decent shape, it would have just been sold as used. I, unfortunately, have started using other used ball companies lately and been very happy.

Oh I get it. I know all about refinished balls.  That is why I am so unsatisfied.  They will go in the shag bag at the very best if they don't get returned.  However, I need them to actually contact me for that to happen.

Yes after this experience I will definitely be using another company.  I have no problem using used balls for regular rounds and pull out the brand new balls for tournament and such, but refinished is, as you say refinished for a reason.  One other thing that got me was they are priced the exact same.  Every time I have looked at golf balls, Refinished balls were substantially cheaper than the used ones of the same grade.  It is what gave it away for me.  I looked up a couple of sites just now to double check and at least for those that is true.  Again, if they call this will get rectified one way or another.  At worst it is a $70 lesson.  Not a killer, but I'm not happy.

Many companies in the Houston area have been closed the last 2 days due to freezing temps and icy roads.  Even if they were open yesterday it was probably with a smaller crew than normal.

Had same thing happen to me, didn't realize was buying refinished chrome softs.  When I got them I noticed right away, called them and they exchanged for normal mint not refurbished.  Had to wait on the shipping back and forth and may have had to pay for return shipping (cant remember honestly), but they did exchange for me so no complaints there (guess should have looked more carefully).  It didn't seem to be clear when I bought them that they were refinished so I was surprised to receive them.   On another note , their quality seems to be slipping a bit.  I have USED LGB.COM  for years , have always been pleased with the condition of the balls for given grade.  I ordered 4 dozen mint 2017 pro-v's around Christmas, and would say at least 8 of them were definitely not "mint".  Never had this issue in the past , didn't bother to call/ return those etc, but wasn't really thrilled about it!

Thanks for the information about the weather in Houston. I will definitely cut them some slack on that then.  However, I won't on the website.    Thanks also on the information about the slipping quality.  I will look and see when I get the exchange and fill people in here.  I ordered a couple years back and all of the 48 I bought were what I would consider mint.  We will see this time.

I ordered my first used golf balls from LGB several years ago like you and had no complaints. However, I switched to Golf Balls Direct after hearing great things about them here on a thread. I've been more than happy with them, and I've never seen/received refinished golf balls, and they seem to almost always be cheaper than LGB.

Edit: Here's a link to the thread http://www.golfwrx.c...e/page__st__690

I think its fully by design they do this. I've known the mint no logo were in fact refinished since I went to the grading detail the first time I saw this, but I am guessing the average joe just thinks they are paying for mint balls and do not have to deal with random logo's on them. In the long run I guess they are making more money than what they lose in exchanges so I am sure they will keep it up. I have bought from them in the past with no issues but this practice is a little shady IMO.

To divert the conversation a little --- I'm not sure why anyone buys used golf balls anymore.  There are deals posted on here almost weekly for new premium balls @ $20/dz (B330-S and 2016 TM Tour Preferred just to name a few).  Purchasing a few dozen when the deals come around would take care of most people for the season.  If people really like buying used golf balls and trying new types, just go to your local Play It Again Sports.  They have lots to chose from for around $10/dz.

This is not directed at you OP, but just a general statement on what's available our there.  I personally would never buy from a used golf ball retailer.  IMO if there are golfers so blind they are willing to follow the Titleist stamp into the used golf ball world, they got other issues at hand.

OP, if you don't mind me asking, how did you know they were refinished? I received an order from them last month but never really looked at them since it's deep winter up here. Did it say somewhere "Refinished" on the box or bucket? I did notice there are some logos in the bucket I bought but just want to know how to confirm if these are refinished? Thanks and good luck

The say Refinished on the ball. Nothing on the bucket. Just a quick update. Just got off the phone with a nice guy named Quinten. He is sending me a shipping label and the balls will be exchanged. They are paying shipping both ways and they will ship the new order while the return is in transit. They were out of the office yesterday and he said he is swamped and the only guy there for customer service. Seemed nice and was helpful. “Tragedy” averted.

I agree with you on the misleading website. If you go to the top banner and select "Shop by Grade" it does say refinished. But if you go straight to the Titleist banner lower down there is no reference to refinished balls and still does not say refinished in the shopping cart. Just stating "mint no logo" is very misleading.

For me personally, I have started using Golf Ball Nut. They have a 60 ball tour mix bag in almost every major brand except Titleist. I have started getting the TaylorMade one which includes Tour Preferred, Tour Preferred X, Project a, RBZ Urethane, and I think some of the Penta line. For 60 balls in near mint condition when I bought them it was $16.88. I think now its $19.99, plus shipping. For 5 dozen golf balls, of which I can try multiple different balls without having to buy an entire dozen, thats a steal. I think the Bridgestone B330 mix is usually their most expensive, but its still only around $30 for 5 dozen. I know Golf Balls Direct ran the Srixon Z Star mix for $7/dozen multiple times. I'm not good enough to REALLY tell the difference between balls, but I still like the feel of a premium ball. With used retailers I can use a premium ball and not be all that upset if I lose some. Again, just my point of view.

Yes, I just looked for the first time.  I probably would look at the grading so that I knew the diff between 5Aa, 3A, etc.  But Mint No Logo should say "Refinished".

In my mind, mint means very little use, like almost new.  For packed items, it means took it out the package, but never used.  But cant sell as new.  As those above have said, it sounds like a refinished ball was refinished because the cover well worn or discolored.  That's not mint.

To make an make an analogy,  Repainting and cleaning the interior of a '89 Ford with 300K miles does not make it mint.

Mint logo is a bit deceiving but I'm guessing they assume that all the consumers will read their "grading scale", similar to say if you went on Callaway preowned and were wondering the differences between "like new" and "average". Would you spend your money on a used club without looking at their grading scale? Didn't think so...

I'd just call them... Emails take too long. I've never had an issue with LGB, I've probably ordered over 10 times now.

I've ordered from lost golf balls for years.  I order as many as it takes to minimize shipping costs.  usually 6+ dozen at a time.

One time, I picked out a dozen balls that aren't up to 4AAAA grade, and they sent me an extra dozen without me having to send anything back.

That's great customer service afaic.  My most recent order was around the holidays, so I still deal with them regularly.

I'm glad OP got this resolved as I would have not wanted refinished either, nor to have been duped by misleading site.  I want all of you reading to know that filing a claim online with BBB if you suspect shady business works...have always gotten results when I used their site.

I have not read the post, but suggest going with golfballsdirect, better pricing and better quality head to head vs. lgb, a no brainier IMO.

Exact same thing happened to me, and I had bought from them many times previously so didn't spend time clicking/scrolling to see they were refinished. They changed the way they were listed so it wasn't apparent in my opinion. Called, emailed, etc. and never got a response. Chalked it up to a lesson learned, and put them in the shag bag for chipping practice. From that experience I now use another company when I buy seasoned balls.

I have not read the post, but suggest going with golfballsdirect, better pricing and better quality head to head vs. lgb, a no brainier IMO.

I just Wish golf balls direct would stock TP5X, I’d buy multiple dozens

Not completely resolved. They still haven’t sent me a return shipping label. Was supposed to have it this morning. We shall see. Not happy.

Thanks.

I did the exact thing over Black Friday. Received "refurbs" to my dismay. Spoke to them and they swapped them out free of charge. I too believe they should have been more clear in their listings!
