Hey guys. Taking a golf trip with some buddies at the end of January. We’re heading to Boca Raton in Florida for a 4 day weekend where my one friends family has a condo. We plan on playing 36 holes per day while we’re there. Looking for some awesome course recommendations around the area. Can be public or private. One of the guys coming is the assistant pro at our club, so he can get us on most private tracks. Not looking to stay in any price range and we’re willing to drive a bit to get to an awesome course. Let me know what you guys know of in that area. Thanks!

Osprey Point is worth a shot.  Usually in fantastic condition, but it's a difficult track.

For private courses I would try St. Andrews, Royal Palm Yacht & CC and Broken Sound.

I was looking into that, but don’t you have to be a resort guest? I’m not sure how strict they are with that. Maybe my buddy thats the Assistant Pro can get us on there. Would love to play it.

Sorry to butt in, but does anyone know what the guest fee is at Fort Lauderdale CC?  Is it worth it?

I've played Osprey Point in the past and really enjoyed it. I'll be down in Boca in about a month and also looking for suggestions.

Not sure the guest fee, but both layouts are quality there, it is a solid well kept course that challenges you but doesn't beat you up.

Deer creek is cool. It's my moms course when shes down in Florida. Semi private. It's always in good shape and for the price worth checking out. I've played twilight in the off season a few times for around 35$. Played Boca resort course when I was down this past thanksgiving also. I played as a guest but I think rack was like 200$. Played deer creek the next day for 59$. Price difference.. Deer creek all day!

Price aside, what’d you think of the Resort course?

I've played Royal Palm tons of times as my uncle lives there and is a pretty avid golfer. It's definitely a really nice course, the conditioning is always excellent. It's a nice playing experience too. I feel like I've never waited for another group in front of us any time I've been out there. That being said, it is not one of my favorite courses. It's a typical Nicklaus Florida course. Tons of water. Whenever I've played there, it's typically been pretty to very windy. My uncle plays with some good players, and we always end up playing from pretty far back. That coupled with all the wind and water leads to plenty of lost balls and high scores for me. Still, if you're able to get on there I would recommend it; you're probably not going to find too many courses in the area that are any nicer.

It's a decent course.  But overpriced.

I'd rather play Atlantic National which you can get for at least 1/2 the price.

Thanks for all the help guys. I ended up playing Osprey Point, Atlantis CC, Broken Sound, and The Breakers Rees Jones Course. It was really windy this weekend, about 30-35 mph gusts, so play was tough. But here’s my review from best to worst.

1. Broken Sound - Club Course - Fantastic layout and the holes were very aesthetically pleasing with bunkers lining the fairways. Course was in top shape and the greens were pure. A few picturesque holes and a great finishing hole. Would love to play here again.  The staff was fantastic.

2. Breakers Rees Jones - Loved the practice area. Great short game spots. Got here about 2 hours early just to hit the range and putt. Great decision. The course was in great shape. The greens were rolling pretty quick and pure. Lots of tricky holes with many dog legs. A few holes were gorgeous and there were many choices off the tee to make, especially #9 if you can carry driver 290 yards. Just a fun course to play and would love another shot at it.

3. Osprey Point - This was a great public track. Very busy on a Friday morning. 3 nines, so they keep it moving. The wind was the worst the day we played at Osprey. Pretty much a 3 Club wind, so any cross wind or into your face wind was tough. The course was in great shape for a public course. The greens were decent, but I did t think they were consistent. Hard to tell with the crazy high winds. Overall, I was very happy with the course.

4. Atlantis Country Club - Older Country Club with average course and practice area. Not much else to say. They were allowing 5-somes which slowed play down significantly. There’s better courses around for the money.

Great few days in South Florida. It beats the snow in Pittsburgh, that’s for sure. When I come back for my next golf weekend here in March, I’m going to try a few different courses and see how they are. Overall it was a great trip! Thanks again guys!

I realize now you're already back from your trip for people still searching this thread, I played Delray Beach Golf Club when I was down in the area in December.  Fun (1/2 of the holes) Donald Ross design course and inexpensive.

For what it’s worth...

Osprey Point was a solid public option. It has definitely done its best to resist the archetype of a tired, flat south Florida golf course, with some interesting green complexes and a handful of tricky decision-making opportunities. And it was in very good shape. You could do much, much worse.

The Resort Course at the Boca Raton Resort & Club was certainly in more pristine condition than Osprey Point, but I think I preferred Osprey Point. The Resort Course was packed, and it uses aesthetic beauty to mask a pretty so-so layout. I definitely wouldn’t pay the full rack rate here again.

Also, I echo the sentiments on Broken Sound (which I got to walk during the Champions Tour event). Tremendous layout and green complexes. And the scale is really, really impressive (not something I expected to see at a course in that part of the country). If you can get on, put this one at the top of your list.
