With it currently 2 degrees and the Patriots not coming on till Saturday, I have watched lots of youtube golf. After seeing Jim Furyks 59 at Conway, it got me thinking...

I know we have a few aspiring pros and dozens of plus handicaps here. It may be far-fetched, but have any of you guys had a run at 59? Give us the story.

Yes and no.    Whenever our regular group plays and someone birdies # 1, my buddy Wayne exclaims, "we're on a 59 watch."    It's always funny.

During my rounds of golf this has never popped in my head once.  Not even at an 18 hole par 3 course.
Me thinking sub 60 is more unrealistic than my first marriage.

There's a few posts in the "lowest score" thread from some of the guys on here that were/are legit pros and have obscene plus handicaps. I believe RRfireblade has posted several sub-60s in casual and been at or around 60 in tournament play.

Best I ever did was 63.  And I'll be honest it was not on a great golf course:

Par 72
6,278 yards
70.9/133

Its driver and wedge all day long.  I knew one day I would eventually get hot.  Shot 29 two consecutive days on the front nine.  I was more impressed with that frankly.

Closest ever was 61, but even then I wasn't really on 59 watch. I've done 28 for nine holes probably 5/6 times. Last 28 was the best I have ever played. I did it it was 38-28=66. It's not so much I played better, I just made putts. Eagled 10 (25 footer) birdied 11 (3 footer) birdied 12 (8 feet) eagled 13 (5 feet) birdied 14 (20 footer) par 15 and 16, birdie 17 (an inch) doubled 18. I legitimately thought I could shoot 25 standing on 18 tee, got greedy and made dub that's golf!

Technically, I've had a CHANCE a few times with a few holes left, realistically, I had no chance. I have witnessed 2 59's. One in a practice round for a mini-tour event at Hunter's Creek in Kissimmee, FL. Little Japanese kid on FIRE, and he played the last 4 even par. The 2nd was a few years back in Tampa, old local legend (in his mind), finished with 3 pars in a row.........I've gone low a bunch, never really had ''that" day.......

Had a few nines of 30 but never put them together with anything worthwhile on the same day. Was 6 under after 6 in a college tournament and didnít even break 40 on either nine.

I've shot 61 on three occasions, once in a tournament. Each round had at least one bogey in the first four holes. So no, I never thought about getting sub-60. In fact, in each of these three rounds, I couldn't tell you my score until I added it up after the round. I seem to play my best that way...

I've shot -9 on the back 9 before, unfortunately I hit it OB on the second hole and never went back to the tee box.
As you walk down the fairway of life you must smell the roses, for you only get to play one round.

No that was at West Orange in Winter Garden for a Florida professional event? May have been west Florida. Played with Rob Oppenheim that week.

Never really keep score at JIC I just enjoy it, and work on my game. It's only 6200, but in immaculate shape.

I was 5 under after 7 holes. After a string of pars, I had a five foot downhill putt for birdie on 13 to get the momentum back. I decided to look at the putt from both sides of the hole...playing partner told me to hurry up. I got flustered and three putted. Limped home.

As a five handicapper at the time I was never thinking sub-60, but I was thinking 64 and new course record (par 70 course). Finished at 69.....but yeah, that was my run at sub-60.

Note: 6000 yd course. All numbers below are in metres.

I have never come close to shooting a number that low. My all-time best is a 65. However, I witnessed a 61 back in 1995. The 18th hole was a par 3 and an ace would have given him a 59. The young man, Ricky Leal, was an amateur at the time but has since become a club pro. He simply over-powered the course and putted as well as anyone could imagine, that day. Now, here's the funny twist. He tied the course record which was held by, Wayne Leal, his older brother!

Iíve been close a couple of times. 61 twice, one par 70 and 72. Both happened at separate decisive points in my life, when I was finally ready to give up on professional golf. Then I played well, went home and told my wife I thought I still had it (I didnít), and the cycle of poverty extended a little longer.

LOL I feel like that happens to every former professional player that toiled on the mini tours...I am going to get a real job...cash a big check or pick up a W. Funny how that happens and keeps you coming back.

I shot a 32 on the front nine of my club during league.  I then went inside and was told to go out and try for my best round.

So I birdie #10, par #11, birdie #12.  Im -6 with 6 to play.  I need to get to -12 for 59.

I tap in birdie 13.  Birdie 14.  Par 15, Birdie 16, Birdie 17.

I need a hole in one on 18 for a 59.  231 out, i hit it about 1 foot.  Tap it in for a 60.

Hope you enjoyed reading this because it didnt happen.  I shot a 32 and then I bogeyed 10 and came back inside.

My low is 63 on a par 72 and that one could have been a 61 or a 65 but never really had a chance to be 59.  That was back when I played tournament golf and the pressure of losing a good round didn't get to me as much as it does now.

I have had a few low nines this fall/winter; a 30, and a couple 31's but anytime I get that far under par on the front nine I lose my mind and shoot something obnoxious on the back nine.  It's kinda pathetic really.

i have shot 63 on my 3 "HOME COURSES".  All are short 6000 to 6200 from the tees I played on.  However the only time I had a chance of breaking 60 was NOV 2016. We had a long frost delay until noon and I only planned on playing the back 9.  I normally don't get many birdies early in rounds,  but had my best start ever in a round.  I hit two meh shots on the 1st hole and then drained a 40 foot putt for birdie.  I then stiffed 4 approach shots to 10 to 12 foot putt range and made them all.  5 Under after 5.  Missed a 15 foot birdie on the 6th hole and stiffed 2 more approach shots on a par 5 and short par 4. 7 under after 8. 9 is a 420 yard uphill par 4,  Hit an okay drive and 2nd shot to 30 foot from the pin.  Drained the putt.  8 under 28 after 9.  Sooo.....
My 9 hole round became an 18 hole round and I promptly bogeyed the 10th  hole.  MY game them reverted to my normal boring par no chance at birdie pattern until the 17th hole a short par 3.  Made a 17 footer to go 8 under. Missed a 10 footer on 9 to shoot 8 under 63.

The mojo didnt carry over to last years tournament schedule. I didnt break 70 once and my stroke average for the year was 76.

I was -3 through 5 once and the thought crosses my mind. Fired a solid 39 on that 9 and shot 34 on the back with 3 birdies in a row to finish plus an eagle on the 12 hole. 4 birdies and 2 eagles and shot 73.

I was -3 through 5 once and the thought crosses my mind. Fired a solid 39 on that 9 and shot 34 on the back with 3 birdies in a row to finish plus an eagle on the 12 hole. 4 birdies and 2 eagles and shot 73.
I remember as a 16 year old junior, I once led a tournament with 9 holes to play (-3 I think at that point). I then lost about a dozen balls, constituting all the balls in my bag, and didnít even finish the tournament, ending on 16. The slide started with a 15 foot putt for eagle on 10, finishing with bogey, then hitting 4 drives on 11. A couple of days earlier in a practice round, I piped my drive on that same hole 280 down the middle... using my momís womenís flex driver. It wasnít a hard hole.

My parents were always incredibly supportive of me, but after that performance, I think even they wondered if I had extensive brain damage. The only experience more embarrassing is when I showed up to my first professional event in shorts and a polo and no rain gear, when it was about 34 F and raining sideways. I made it to the sixth hole before officials pulled me from the course, worrying I might die of hypothermia/full on stupidity. Iíve been told my last swing of the day, a drive, consisted of a backswing the length of a pitch shot, and a drive of 130 yards, right down the friggin pipe.

My second pat, i left all my rain gear in my locker. Clear skies, wasnt suppose to rain at all. Hole 5, its pouring and cold. I dont think i had two hands on club when it made contact. Didnt pass that day. In fact only 5 golfers did out of the 80 taking it. Only one golfer broke 80 in the morning session. One of the greens was completely under water. And they didnt decide to stop play, never even crossed their mind.
