Could be a good signing if it boosts their sales in Korea where he's regarded as a legend.

I thought the same thing since Ping doesn't have much of a presence there.  I would imagine PXG would've been a better fit.

Let me be the first to chastise him for playing SGI irons....even though I don't really mean it...the nerve of a touring pro to play irons with wide soles and offset.  He must be an inferior ball striker.  I bet he's taking PED's too.

What is KJ's status? Past champion exemption for The Players, maybe some lower end PGA events? I wonder if he will even use there tour rep or dabble at a 2nd Swing/Galaxy to find the right Ping irons!

G400 irons are GI irons and the GMax are their SGI irons. And I'm pretty sure he's played GI irons before. Also remember that Kenny Perry also played GI on the tour recently. Play what you think works best for you I guess.

Ya...I really doubt many golfers buy clubs just because a specific pro plays them (Tiger being the exception...thought that business model died quickly due to the demise of Nike Golf).

Yes, KJ Choi is popular in S. Korea...but I think if any pro that would help Ping sell clubs in S. Korea nowadays...it would be In Gee Chun.
Women's golf is far more popular in S. Korea than men's golf.
In Gee has many die hard fans in addition to her 8,000+ Flying Dumbo fans in Korea...so I could see some of these fans buying Ping clubs just because she plays them.

On January 3rd...it seems like there were 20+ fans at the airport in Incheon giving her bags of snacks, candies and chocolates and flowers as she got ready to board a plane to Orlando.

And look at the below video.....what seemed to be 30-40 media and photographers plus 50+ fans there to greet In Gee in Incheon after she won the 2016 Evian....I doubt even Tiger had anyone waiting for him (except his "girl friends :taunt: ) at the airports in Orlando and/or Jupiter when he won his majors.

KJ along with Ernie Els are exempt for the 2017/2018 season. They are both using their top 25 career earnings exemption. Priority category 11b. That's a high catergory to play out of. KJ and Ernie will get into many events.

If they spent some money on guys they would have a lot more wins. Not their model. Sales do fine without big names or wins.

KJ Choi to Frigidaire

The guy is 47 plays amazing golf and if you ever see him up close, he might be short but he is thick, built like a fridge.  Looks like he squats the back end of his courtesy vehicle as his pre-round workout.

I've met KJ Choi and he is one of the most gracious professional athletes you could ever meet. Very nice, humble man who also is a fierce competitor and wants to win. Sure, he is closing in on Champions Tour status but he can still bust a golf ball. Legs like an oak tree and very powerful. Compact backswing, aggressive transition.

He is a multiple winner on the PGA Tour and revered in golf-crazy South Korea. I saw him get one of his PGA Tour wins and throngs of Korean-Americans flew in to give him big galleries the final two rounds. A close-knit community in the U.S. And he is hitting irons that just about any golfer in his homeland can play. Seems like a pretty good move for Ping in an attractive market.
Current lineup:

TM M1 440 Tour Issue, 10-degree, Diamana B Series X,
67g.
Nike Flex 3 wood, Diamana S-70 stiff
Callaway Epic 5W, Hzrdus T800 S, 65g.
Callaway Apex hybrid, 20 degree, Kuro Kage 80HY stiff shaft
Mizuno MP-59, 4-P, PX 5.5
(Coming: Srixon z565 4 iron, z965 5-P, C Taper Lite X.)
Ping Glide 50, 54, CFS wedge shafts
Fourteen RM12 58/12 sand wedge
Edel Rogue putter (thick blade), 34 inch.
