I respect your opinion, I just don't see companies really caring about forged wedges going forward.

99% of golfers can't actually tell the difference between a cast wedge and a forged one anyway. I completely believe they could cast a wedge and then stamp forged on it and everyone would claim how soft it feels because they think it's forged. Castings have become extemely good. The MD4 feels terrific. It's a shame to completely write it off because of the way it was made.

You're probably right, but it's hard for me to put a cast wedge in the bag when I play forged irons.

I'm the exact opposite. I've always played forged irons, right back to the MP-33s, and I really don't prefer the forged wedges. I play in soft conditions and I'm definitely a "feel" player but I prefer that little "click" you get from a cast wedge. Main thing for me is getting the right shaft and swingweight dialed in. I'll be giving the MD4 a chance right when they come out.

Callaway putting a light stock shaft in the MD4 is also a very odd decision.

I found this to be odd as well. 115 gram S200? With the TT variance of S-model shafts, you could end up with an 111-119 range for shaft weight. Might have to swap these out for some Tour Issue shafts.

I can only tell you what it costs me. So im gonna guess its about 25 for Tour issues. But there are plenty high end wedge shafts that should be no upcharge.

I like the MD4. Granted, I always like Cally wedges. I could listen to Roger Cleveland talk about wedges all day and I love his eye. Not knocking others. Also like Mizuno, Fourteen and Wilson (the PMP is excellent.) On the MD4, the leading edge is not as straight as I feared. I want the rounded front edge. Best feature of this leading edge is it looks perfect for clipping off tight lies.

I won't care or wait for the forged. I tried some Mizuno TP5 forged wedges and did not like (do like S series) and the straight edge on the Cally MD Forged I felt did not suit my eye. I thought cast Ping Glides (originals) felt way smoother than the TP5 and I ultimately went with MD3 c grind and w grind and they are great wedges. Don't notice any difference between these and the forged version, just a different look. To me the more rounded leading edge of the MD3 will make them have staying power with players who like that.

I also will still rotate in a Fourteen RM-12 (58 degree) that is forged and I maintain is one of the best wedges ever from a bunker.

I do think the shaft, ball, sound and where on the clubface you're hitting it is pretty much all of the feel, and the wrong lie angle can make a wedge feel harsh. A lot of wedges are very upright these days. A little flatter (62 degrees) and a little more "around-ness" in my wedge swing really improved the consistency of my contact. Makes a massive difference in feel.

Correct me if I'm wrong but those upcharges were not always the case with Callaway.  I wonder why that has changed so much?

I just set my fiance up with a set of custom MD3s last season.  I sent her the pics of the MD4.  "I don't get it, they look JUST like mine."  Yes dear, they look similar but these are shiny and new!

Yes it is. Looks like almost all upcharges are $35 for shafts and $6 for grips. Some models are still 1-2 week wait time, some available now.

Custom club building is available on Cally website. Looks like $149 price tag, stock grip is red with red S200 Tout Issue shaft band

Can't find anywhere on the Callaway website what the stock shaft weight is. I have read it's 115 gram but that doesn't sound right. I've contacted Cally CS and will report back the findings.

They really as substantially different 56 and up. The amount of spin they generate is borderline insane.

High Up charge rate for shafts included at no charge by many Oems on an already 150 retail wedge is disappointing and getting out of hand

Yep and the producer will continue to justify more silly practices. Confusing to see smaller golf comps like mizuno and Srixon offer several free upgrades but Cally chince us. We can start by voicing a bit of displeasure lol? Perhaps some Cally staff lurks around

I agree. Ridiculous upcharges for some shafts. Charging full retail prices for something Callaway is getting for wholesale from the shaft manufacturers. Christ, Nippon is probably GIVING the shafts to Callaway so they'll offer them in their new line of wedges. Very disappointing.

If you guys have shafts you love so much in your set, why not order the standard wedges and put your own shaft in? I plan to reuse my wedge shafts when i replace the heads. So I don't  care what they come with.
