Just curious if anyone knows what most players prefer. I have tried a lot of them and still not sold on a particular type. Prefer ankle ones that stay put and are barely visible but I am having trouble finding some. The Balega Hidden Comforts stretch badly. Any thoughts including the questions in my title would be great!

Tour issue FJ's are awesome.  Sometimes you can get lucky and find them on Ebay.  Just a heads up, they are slightly smaller and a bit heavier than the standard issues and they usually promote a fade. I've heard the PM's are awesome but I'm not left handed.

If you like merino check out DarnTough of Vermont. Unanimously recognized as the highest quality merino socks and with a lifetime replacement guarantee to back.

Cheap Smartwools can be found at Marshall’s but their durability is average. Kentwool just seems late to the game...

The only socks I'll ever wear with shorts are ones designed for boat shoes.

I don't want a single sliver of sock visible.

I'm wearing my first pair of Smartwools PhD Run Ultra Light Micro today and my arch is aching like a mofo.  I know these are supposed to be a bit reinforced and tighter through the forefoot to provide stability but did you experience the same thing?  I have a fairly narrow foot.

I was gifted A pair and they are really nice and comfortable.  Can I say they are that much better than any other quality athletic sock.  I can't but I don't think you will be disappointed in them.

I'm wearing my first pair of Smartwools PhD Run Ultra Light Micro today and my arch is aching like a mofo.  I know these are supposed to be a bit reinforced and tighter through the forefoot to provide stability but did you experience the same thing?  I have a fairly narrow foot.

No, I also wear the low ankle PHD running socks and I’ve honestly never experienced any arch or instep discomfort. Don’t think I’ve ever experienced it in any sock. We’re they sized too small?

What’s hilarious is that ultra fine (sub 19 micron) NZ merino has been used in socks and garments by the likes of Smartwool, Icebreaker, Ibex, Darn Tough for the past 20+ yrs. Namely in the technical outdoor Industry. It’s only been in the last 5-10 yrs that mainstream education on the superior properties of merino have led a surge in demand. I’d attribute it mostly to Smartwool and Icebreaker.

Kudos to Kentwool for recognizing the lucrative golf demographic.  Smart for seeing the  merino craze and gap in golf where apparel has been dominated by big brands selling cheap petroleum based synthetics. BUT they’re absolutely not best in class, that’s nonsense.

I’ll stress, Merino socks and clothes are expensive, and unfortunately like any knit construction garment are prone to “picking” holes. Which is super frustrating on a $15-$20 pair of socks. This is especially true amongst the ultra light varieties. So don’t walk around on abrasive materials like concrete and expect them to last. Something to think about for those that change shoes in the course parking lot.

Darn Tough is likely the only brand left that wholly owns and operates its mills and thus has an inherent advantage to adhering to strict quality control. Hence their lifetime guarantee... I would highly recommend spending dollars there knowing that they’ll stand by their socks. You don’t even have to ship them back, just take them to any store that sells them and you can exchange them for a new pair. Obviously, everyone has a different interpretation of lifetime guarantee (whether the garments vs customer’s life) so use discretion and dont treat it like a rental program or we’ll all lose this incredible perk!

I have no affiliation with any other these brands, however, I’ve worked extensively in sourcing and manufacturing of New Zealand merino. Take it for what it’s worth.

Cheers!
