I have one afternoon to play golf during a business trip in SF and looking for suggestions. I'll be staying and dining downtown other nights, so looking for something cool outside of that. Looking for a great 18 holes and dinner afterward either at their clubhouse or nearby to soak in the round.

How much time do you have to play if you have half the day shoot down to pasatiempo. I'd say pass on half Moon Bay

Pasa looks really nice. Nothing similar closer to SF? My flight touches at 10:15. I guess I would have time to head straight there and tee off around 1. Never paid that much to play before. $100 has been tops to date. But figure it would be worth it while out there and what better way to deal with the cold than play golf In January in the 60s.

Not sure exactly what your timing is but here's some dinner recommendations.  I'm not going to give golf recos because people hate playing expensive courses but I don't so will keep quiet on that front. JP Morgan conference is going on in SF right now so its a complete disaster if you are trying to get dinner in the city.  Otherwise here are some great places.....even if you just roll in for a drink...

In terms of driving taken into consideration I would say Presidio, Harding, great golf experience. In terms of food. There are so many hole in the wall places that are really good so see were the locals eat.

I don't mind paying the price if it is worth it. This is a business trip, so everything is paid for. But the golf will be my early birthday present. If I play Pasa I better start working on my bunker play and find some fast greens to practice on.

Thanks for the dinner options.

If you’re staying in SF forget driving to Pasa, Poppy, Pebble etc. That’s a mission.  Just play Harding and call it a day.  You’re close to the city and it’s a nice course.

That was going to be my next question. If I stick to the city, go TPC Harding or Presidio?

Both are nice. I like Harding better esp if you’ve never played it.  Presidio is nice but we’re starting to get rain in January and that course doesn’t drain well.

Also, if you are renting a car at SFO, plan on it taking a while to get the car and get out of the airport.  Even with preferred status, it takes a while for that process it seems.  One time, it took about an hour and a half to get from baggage claim with clubs/bags in hand to getting out of the airport with rental car.  Don't know if I've just had bad luck there, but the few times I've flown through and had to get a rental car, it's just been a mess.

Harding and then something in the Inner/Outer Sunset, which'd only be 3-4 miles from the course.

Personal suggestion would be: Izakaya Sozai on Irving St. Small place with ever changing rota of specials, Japanese tapas almost, we'd just run down the board until we were full.
There are loads of good spots on and around Irving St. Just yelp away for your particular taste buds :) I miss Bay Area food choices.

"I don't agree 100% with your analysis.  Yes, it's nice to hole out, which I did twice during last weeks game, but didn't need either to win those holes or the match.   All that was needed was a tap in to win each hole.  Of course, I was aiming from 20yds and 15yds with the intent to put the ball in the hole, but the expectation was tap-ins." I'd also recommend Harding to play and the clubhouse to have a beer/drink after the round.  However, I wouldn't have dinner at Harding.  Some other places I'd also recommend in the Sunset are San Tung (killer wings but a long wait), Marnee Thai, Thanh Long (Garlic Crab) or Nopalito.  However, there are a ton of great restaurants in the City, but these are a few in the Sunset District.

Harding is a fun, tree-lined, and traditional course.  Similar feel to Olympic without the hills.  Additional dinner recommendations if you want French options are:

1) Chapeau (https://www.yelp.com...u-san-francisco)
2) Chez Maman (https://www.yelp.com...san-francisco-2) or (https://www.yelp.com...san-francisco-9)

So here are my plans so far. TPC Harding 18 Saturday morning and will fly out around 2pm.

I am flying in wed. at 10:14am so still have that day open. I know I can't make it down to Pasa, and from above Presidio might be wet. I looked at it online and not sure that course will be that memorable also. Is Half Moon really a waste? Any other recommendations for an afternoon 18 within an hour of SF.

Half Moon Bay is NOT a waste.  Play the Old Course there (more links style). Its a fun course.  If you get in a round at Harding and Half Moon you will not be disappointed.

Might have to be the Ocean Course there as TPC don't have an early enough time on Saturday but Half Moon has a 7:20 for the Ocean.

These are my options at the moment.

Wed. TPC, Presidio, or HM Old Course

Sat. Presidio or HM Ocean Course

HMB Ocean has a very cool closing 3 holes. It is faux links (ie. looks like it, without the firm turf) but I enjoyed playing it and it's always cool to be able to see the ocean on 16ish of the holes.

Maybe Falken got them backwards, but I wouldn't call HMB Old links at all, it's played through a housing estate until 17.

You could always head over the bridge to Livermore (East Bay) and play either poppy ridge (owned by the NCGA, same people at Poppy Hills) or Wente Vineyards. They are about an hour from SF.

I would drive out to Livermore and play Wente before playing the HMB courses. A great Greg Norman track with exceptional bunkering and many elevated tee box’s. I wouldn’t come to SF and play Sharp Park but Presidio is worth a look if your aiming to stay in the City. Enjoy.
