Brandel said DJ’s 433 yard drive on the par 4 12th that ended inches from the hole yesterday was the “great shot ever hit on the PGA Tour.” DJ’s drive was downhill and downwind and it didn’t even go in the hole. It also didn’t help win a major or a significant tournament.

Brandel on Twitter listed his other favorite shots and every single one of them was better than DJ’s drive. http://www.golfchann...t-ever-hit-game

Brandel - nice hair, cute wife, but you’re completely wrong.

If he says something critical, people get all worked up.  If he compliments something, people get worked up.  It’s almost like he can’t win.

It’s a pretty amazing shot, but I’d never pick a drive, or any teed up shot, as the best ever.

I am guessing he will reorganize this list in the near future. Even great golf historians get caught up in the moment sometimes and that appears to be the case here.

Brandel is too pretty to be taken seriously.  Just ignore him.  On the other hand, he is paid to give his commentary.

Dude's entitled to his opinion.  It's all good.

I'd love to see an "in his prime" Norman engage with DJ in a drive-off .  How cool would that be?

For me hands down Tiger's approach out of the bunker at the 2002 PGA championship.

Approach shot with the ball below his feet in the bunker and him perched above it with his feet in the lip. Hits it hard with a huge hook to ~10 feet.

I don't think anybody else would have attempted that shot, let alone pulled it off.

https://www.youtube....h?v=UyFGyZTS--w

About 6:01 onwards in that video.

Nicklaus - One iron into the monster wind at Pebble number 17 for the Open. Hit pin and stopped 1-2 inches away.   Can't remember the exact yardage but maybe 170 or so. And a 1 iron...

Second place - tie.  Bubba and his hook approach for the Masters playoff and Jerry Pate hitting it to a foot or so from the rough to win the US Open. I should have added Pavin's four wood in the US Open but IIRC he missed the 5 footer.

Man, the BEST shot ever hit? Was it pivotal in any way? Did it change the direction of his round? Dude won by 8 shots. It wasn't under playoff pressure, wasn't a major, wasn't the final hole, DJ hit a downwind downhill drive into a freaking funnel of a fairway and the ball didn't even go in.

To be fair, that statement faces pretty stiff competition from some of his other utterances e.g. the best putters hit down on the ball.

16 at Augusta in 75...
With weiskopf and Miller on the tee box seemingly in control, this was beyond awesome
Miller looked at weiskopf and said “Jack!”
To which weiskopf replied, “Jack”

I love these “greatest shot ever” threads. They just go around in circles with everyone citing their favorite golf shot.

Let’s face it, there are about a million “greatest golf shots” out there

The greatest shot ever hit when combining difficulty, importance to history, and importance to the man that hit the shot, is EASILY Mize chipping in to win a green jacket. LIFE changing for Mize. Importance of winning a major. Keeping Norman from a green jacket. And that chip was incredible.

Please.  Brandel ... I actually like most of what you say. But this is bogus.    Sooooo many better shots.   Tiger alone has around 50 better.  Shot in the dark to name one.     Lol.  ( yea I said it ).    Jacks 1 Iron.   Hell I’d even rank DJs drive over the pond against Spieth as being better because it won something.

It’s not even the best drive DJ has ever hit. I’ll take the drive he hit on the 18th hole at the US Open two years ago over yesterday’s tee shot. Don’t get me wrong. His tee shot yesterday was crushed and fun to watch but not a greatest ever shot.
