I've had incredible results fitting my high swing speed clients into the Max. I actually see spin numbers stay the same most of the time but launch numbers improve and the obvious forgiveness factor. My brother came in the other day and put his G400 LST w/ Tensei Pro White 60TX up against the G400 Max and the Max shocked him. His SS is 114mph on average, spin with the LST was 2550. The G400 Max actually dropped his spin to 2500 on average and Brough launch up a couple degrees giving him more yardage and tightened up his dispersion a ton. I'm a huge fan of the G400 series of drivers.

I really wish I could give this driver the credit it truly deserves, rented an M3 and a GT-180 for 14 days, the max murdered it. Now I have it going up against the Rogue and F8, the competition is closer as the rogue is out driving it by around 10-15 yds on avg and the F8 is around 15-20 yds longer but the ping still comes out on top, it just goes straight, every.single.time. I'd much rather hit fairways than drive it an extra few steps.

Just find the optimal shaft for the Max...to MAXIMIZE Ping :)

ps the Jail break tech is legit, its long on my Epic, Rogue improved on that by just a tad...but you're right, the Max murders the Callaway drivers for forgiveness.

Absolutely!
I was fitted into an Aldila Rogue Tour Stiff 125MSI cut 1 inch short and I LOVE it but, I am looking for another shaft at full length, thinking either Accra or Project X, or TourAD

Iíve experimented with my G400 Max by going 46 inches with a Hzrdus Black 6.0 62 grams shaft, because the MOI is so high on this club head.  To get the swing weight back down, I removed the 7 gram weight (wish they sold a 1 gram) and put lead tape at the bottom, to cover the cavity.  It goes about 20 yards farther for me and still forgiving.  My SS is about 110.

I have a G30 and G400 max.....seems my G30 spins and launches a bit lower and is def longer than G400 max and std G400 I had while back....still hits it pretty high but seems G400 spins quite a bit......ultra forgiving but one of shortest drivers I've used.....no roll out like G30

For me it’s been M3>G400 Max and it’s not even close.

I guess mileage varies because I own a G25 and when G30 launched I bought one and hated it....sold it and played my G25 until the G Launched and bought one and still play it.  I picked up a G400 and played it for 6 rounds and loved the feel but had a chance to sell if for more than I paid so I moved it and just ordered a G400 Max...  I'm a Ho so I'll be back to report my findings.

Just goes to show.  I have exactly the opposite results.  For me the G30 was about the shortest Ping driver I have ever used.  Still pretty forgiving though.  The G400 Max is the longest, most forgiving Ping driver I have used.  Length is neck and neck with the standard G400 with slight edge to the Max.  But the Max is easier for me to hit straight and I get better results on any off-center hits.  Same shaft in both.

So 1 round in with my Max and the Kuro Kage Dual Core Tini Proto. My usual course and again, I know and expect my balls to land where they are suppose to. I will know if I hit a hot one because of the head or me, or I hit a poor driver shot, I know what to expect. This is the only testing that counts, hitting range balls are crap, the quality of the range ball means flight is never the same. Ball flight is different because of the construction of the balls vs premium balls. As well, there is no pressure to hit it good when you have 99 balls remaining to hit.

Now...

1. Let me pr*ck & explode this balloon - it's NOT any 10-15 yards longer than my current gamer, the ATMOS/ Epic GBB. Distance are comparable and the ball lands where I expect. It didn't take any huge distance off but the Epic is longer if hit in the screw. That's a fact.

2. I found the Max head harder to turn over than my Epic. The head appears larger than my Epic GBB, no doubt. I lost a couple of drives to the right but once I figure out that release feeling, it was better. Now, if you can't release the head over, Max ain't gonna save you from your push or slice. No driver will. But it is worse on the Epic.

Mind you, my Max is D5 at the moment and my Epic is D1, big difference in the swing weight but I have a 7gm Max weight coming so I am hoping to normalize the Max swing weight. Now, at the range, the Max seems to consistently pip the Epic but the reality of this driver in play, at least for the 1st round, there is no significant distance gained by me switching to the Max. As I said initially, range balls are not reflective of the true drives in play. Its only the 1st round and I plan to play it at least 2 months before deciding on a keeper.

3. Forgiveness. One of the main reasons for me to look at the Max. Also, while there is NO driver that will save a truly bad drive, the Max appears to keep the ball better in play than a similar bad driver shot with the Epic. I rarely hook, my miss is the right and a couple of times, Max saved me to the right edge of the rough. Similar Epic shots, would be in the middle of the next fairway...but sometimes, it is better to go way over than to have a ball on the bottom of the tree lined right side. Ugh, I need to work on releasing and turning the ball over better.

4. Sound. I like the Max sound better. More lively, Epic is more muted but the ball is fast off the face. Huge difference here.

5. Finding the right ball. With the ATMOS/Epic, I was looking seriously at the Vivid XT for its high contrast matt balls for my drivers. But this is not a ball for the Max, this ball sucks. It's short. The very same ball is much better off the Epic face, may be its the combination of the Jailbreak, muted sound and the harder compression XT being a better here. (I think compression wise, XT > 18 CSX > 17 XV). Now, the 2018 Chrome X was MEH off the Epic but it wasn't too bad off the Max. Ball felt hot off the Max face, distance was respectable. However, it looks like my ole, original gamer ball, the Srixon 2017 XV was the best for me. Great feel off the face, just pip the 18 CSX.

I also like the new KK, very smooth, nothing harsh at all and I can swing hard and it will keep up with me, especially when I sync it right to release and draw the ball.

Overall, jury is out. I got the Max for forgiveness and it seems to be doing that, I think I need to tweak some more (get the right swing weight) and get the right ball. Current setting is small minus but I may go up to O setting to close the face a tad & help with releasing the driver.

Hope this helps...

Good to hear your experiences and your comments about Range Balls - often at my range the Pro says "that was the ball !" and If I sneak a few white balls in they pounce on them and tell me to hit no more than 6 iron or surrender them !

I'm about to unveil my Credit Card today for the G400 Max KK shaft. But first I'm going to hit that crazy Mizuno GT180 (see Rick Sheils review of 1,800 adjustable settings) and probably hit the Cobra F8.

I see your hitting the Cobra One Length irons - have you posted somewhere on these ?

1st.....  I like your Forum name....  I have that suspension on my 2013 FJ Cruiser TTSE and you're in Australia so it makes sense.  I have always been a fan of Mizuno but why in the hell won't they make a matte black driver and fairway wood?   The Blue is just too much for me and they do make great Woods.

I have, try this  thread. I had pretty good results from them, simplifies but it also makes you think a bit. Definitely different, but we can take the conversation somewhere else.

Let me know what they're charging for the Ping back in Aus. I know stuff is EXPENSIVE there in Melb since Drummond got the lock on the golf stuff there and shipping from o/s you get stung by customs and high shipping. But don't know much about Sydney though. I'm lucky to live here in the California, where stuff is cheap, so is shipping but I do miss the courses in Melb though. If you haven't figured it out, I'm from there...lol.

The F8 is suppose to be pretty good but here's the other thing with Cobra vs Ping, Ping holds the value of the club really, really well. If I were you, I would also look at the prior G series as well. I was thinking a lot last night how the Max compared to my previous gamer, a Ping G LS 9* with the Tour 65 and back then, I was really hitting long bombs but I somehow got bit by the Epic bug and moved on from the G LS. I think forgiveness wise, Max and G are pretty close. IMHO, the Max buys you a forged face and some dimples on the crown...but what's that worth to you? I ain't seen anything spectacular in my 1 round but my testing ain't over yet, 2 more months. I am not BSTing anything and it's killing me to keep 2 drivers. So yeah, don't be shy about the G drivers either since, I think, the Max is an incremental improvement and not a mega light year jump from bi-plane to an SR-71...you get the gist

Yeah, don't ever let a pro tell ya the ball flight is the same, its utter bs, cow's dung...

Yeah, when I was young I could run the pants off a Kangaroo and it just stuck !

Hit the Mizuno GT180 today - the adjustability works well (me 14 handicapper).

Also has a upright lie adjustment, I'm 6'3" and I hated it.

I hit some bombs but with over 1,000 adjustments I'd be tinkering all the time and you can't change mid round. Also the weights move if not really screwed really hard down hard. As Rick Sheils says "get fitted and throw the adjustment tool away"

I like the Blue Mizuno !

I then hit the G400 Max KK 60 shaft - fantastic - order tomorrow or next Tuesday - will need to buy PINK spray paint.

That ain't too bad, about usd $45 more but considering freight & import taxes. I was thinking it would have been $100. Did u try the G. or are you set on the G400s instead.

Pink spray?

That's expensive. I'm sure you've worked it out but $599 Aussie is $633 NZ today. You could fly over and grab one or even ship it !

Apparently there is a Ping Factory in Sydney - not sure if they build heads there but delivery is 3 days after order So they must !!?? I'd like to go check it out.

I tried the G a while back - just a few hits with a mates, cost advantage yes, but this is likely the last driver I'll ever buy. I just love these G400's all of them but the MAX is sweet.

PINK spray - Bubba Watson !

emu, I presume you have the pink bi-matrix ready? :idhitit:

So my 7gm weight from Golfworks came and it replaced the 13gm weight in my Max. Swing weight is now D2. Interestingly, my ATMOS/Epic is D0...hmmmh.

Just curious, what do you like better about the G than the G25?  I tried the G30, and the G, but never really got on the Ping bandwagon until the G400.... In the process I thought I'd try out a G25 to see if there was possibly some extra forgiveness there.  The head I have is 8.5 which may not quite be what I need so now I have a 9.5 G25 on the way just for fun.  I like the look and the sound/feel, but doubt it can beat out the G400... did it under perform compared to the G for you?

Most people found it spun a little too much, and thatís coming from a low spin guy myself.  I believe it also came out right before the 17*/1700 taylor made thing which really drew the average golfer to low spin and more fittings in general.  Thatís also why I still see the fairway wood in more bags than expected, good relatively high spin from the deck.  IMO the g30 and on are all about the same when it comes to driver distance alone, and all are longer than g25 for a majority of people.

I still own the G25 and the reason I bought a G is because I picked up a new one in BST for 200 bucks .  I put a Aldila Rogue Silver 60 shaft in it and brought my spin down.  The G25 is still a great driver but I have moved on.  I'm a Club Ho..

I posted in the other thread because I didn’t know about this one, but after testing G400 Max, Rogue, and GT180 I ordered the G400 max.

The Rogue was 10 yards longer on perfect drives but wanted to go left in my hands. The GBB and I presume the standard Epic were both heavily draw biased so not a shock.

The Max was straight, almost as long, and much more consistent. While the Rogue had the single longest drive the Max crushed it for average.

Max averaged 317 in the fwy, long of 320 shortest at 310.

Rogue averaged 300 with the longest at 330. I don’t remember the shortest drive but many were around 290 and missing the fairway left.

I will gladly trade 10 yards on the few I hit perfect in a round for 30 yards on the many imperfect drives I hit. Easy decision.

Ping G400 Max - Speeder Evolution IV 757 X
X2 Hot Pro 15*- Aldila Tour Green 75TX
P790 UDI - HZRDUS 85 6.5 (for now/hate this shaft)
Nike Vapor Pro Combo - PX LZ 6.5 HS
Glide 2.0 Stealth 51 & 56 - PX LZ 6.5
Wilson Staff PMP 60 - KBS Tour 130X

I didn't know that was a thing. I'm more interested than ever now. Also that should help you turn it over right? Now for the questions:
Is the weight the black thing or the copper thing?
What's the shaft weight like 65?
Did you measure the head weight before or after the new weight?
There's no lighter weight for a G/G30 right?

BTW, hit the 9 with the xtorsion 60 and had 13 launch and 2k spin which seems near ideal for a head so forgiving.

No ! Got one to sell ? I've not bought a driver for years - 2006 to be exact almost.

I bought a TaylorMade RX 580 off eBay for $250 after hitting a friends - catch it in the middle and square and she goes off like a canon - can be unforgiving for off centre hits. So I've being trying to keep that in play but there is just too much better stuff out there today.

I don't know. For me, the G400 Max should be renamed the G400 "Meh."

I'll work with it some more but I don't see it kicking my 917D2 out of the bag, from either a distance or forgiveness point of view.

I smell ebay!!
