Hi guys, haven't seen any posts on experiences with the G400 Max. So here goes, I almost bought a G400 SFT (Straight Flight Tech - anti draw - and you cannot turn it right to left) back in January $659 aussie $. I didn't as all the hoopla started about TwistFace, so I waited for TwistFace. I'm a 14 marker. The M4 was ok, I didn't like the M3 - I didn't muck around with the adjustments much to be honest and they only had one regular shaft ( so I will try again). I don't update clubs much as I tend to play the same 6 courses with buddies. Lately I've being playing much hard courses where I need to control driver as a foot off the fairway is lost ! My gamer is a TaylorMade R580 XD from about 2004. Shaft is Stiff, 65 grams, low torque (whatever that is!) Tip Firm. The Pro at the driving ranges laughs at it being so old and then I put a few holes in his back fence at 245 meters (Australia) with crappy range balls. Anyway I was hitting it mediocre at the range today - army golf - left / right / left / right and he said try the G400 Max with an Alta Distanza 40g shaft. I said OK but I'll snap it ! (Swing speed 108mph). So ... SOOO .... BOOM ! Set at 10.5° it launches higher than a Jason Day 8 iron and carried to the back fence straight as a die. I've never seen anything like it ! Fluke ! So try again - same ! Pro said just slow your swing down a bit - IT IS F@#$%N’ INSANE !! 4 in a row into the back fence, super straight and super higher. We knocked the launch angle down to 2 notches I guess that's 9.5° and that was much better, it was the end of a large bucket session and I was getting tired and then I hit a few slices. I’ll get a proper fitting next week. The head on these is huge and it has the highest MOI on the market - approaching illegal ! Light as a feather. I've always sought out stiffer shafts perhaps I'm erring. I'll get them to put me on TrackMan and we'll see what happens.

The problem with a light shaft like that is that on the range, when you are making swing after swing, it might work great.  The PROBLEM starts when you go to a course with tight fairways, and you only hit driver about once every 12 minutes.

Good luck with that.

I'm going to see if they will let me borrow it for a game on Good Friday - after church of course !

Thanks for the review, seems like this club is a winner. Very much liking what Ping has done lately. I'm looking to add the stealth wedges and will roll the PLD mid-mallet, rincon neck putter once released.

See Rick Sheils review on the Stealth Wedges - best ever !

The hype about this club is real. I have the 10.5* with the Alta shaft and unless you have a REAL poor swing, this will go straight, period.I'm not a Ping guy but in all my years of playing golf, I've never had a straighter driver with my swing and believe me, it's no where near perfect. The dispersion is within 5-7 yards of center of the fairway hits. This will be in my bag for a  l o n g  time.
Yeah I can't believe how straight it is. They didn't have anything in stiff except a Alta and Kuro Kage, & both spun and launched too high but I don't think I had one shot that'd miss the fairway. Great feel too.

The M4 was really straight too, just couldn't get over the colors.

I don't think so. The Xtorsion is a great option. I want to hit the Hzrdus yellow but I think it'll be too heavy for me. I'd love to see the 65 yellow be a stock option.

I've read that once or twice on this site before.

I guess since you don't know me, my swing, or my purchasing habits, you can only ASSume this, however, I'm sure you seen that phrase somewhere before!

When I tried the G400 and the G400 SFT the Kuro Kage Dual Core was the pick over the Alta CB, Hzrdous, and something else, but you need to hit them not me.

Picked up my G400 max about a month ago, fitted with an Aldila Rogue 125MSI Tour stuff cut 1/2 inch short, itís just stupid forgiving. I tried out GlobalGolfís Utry trial program thing and rented the M3 and GT180 and the Max absolutely crushed both of them. Forgiveness is off the charts and itís just stupid long

Today they let me use TrackMan for an hour for free (sale coming up)....

I tried the Ping G400 MAX with 3 shafts;
9° head ALTA CB Stiff 55g down two notches which is -0.6 degrees (one notch is -1.0 degree) – high, long 240m carry but a few 15m left - I hate left !

9° head Kuro Kage TiNi Dual Core 60g stiff down two notches so 8.4° – generally good, a touch lower the best on the day again a few left longer run out lower launch. I found with the take away a little more inside and with the ball a little further back in stance (heel rather than left big toe) resulted in a nice high baby draw or very slight straight left i.e. 1 to 3 meters - happy. Trackman is great with helping with launch angle and path and face.

10.5° head ALTA Distanza 40G down two notches so 9.9°  - high like 45 meters high - almost off Trackman ! Long, but my miss was a slice, but every now and then you just catch one and it flys and flys. But you need to go for the percentages in you are a 14.

I think the Kuro Kage is the shaft for me and the 9° head.

I found it funny that one notch adjustment was 1° and two notches adjustment was 0.6 ° - I need to Youtube these adjustments as I can't visualise the physics - if the club lie and direction is the same isn't the shaft just being rotated ? The Pro said TaylorMade have a better system.

I also hit two of the Callaway Rogue Jail Break drivers - I hated them, they looked awful at address IMO.

Does the G400Max run out better than older Ping drivers? l love my G but get booger all roll once it hits the floor. Even on drier courses with low spin ammo.

I just had my fitting with the ping pro for the GolfWRX trial/review. I’ll go into detail once they start the reviews and feedback threads but after hitting all four of the g400 options the max launched really high and spun the most on me, so the forgiving factor on the driver was definitely playing. In the end I ended up with standard head 9.0 set at 8.5 with tour shaft. Surprisingly, not relevant to this thread, but the ping tour shaft spun less than the HZRDUS yellow. Both in the 60gram area and stiff. The head size and shape of these drivers is super sexy! Just looks badass behind the ball.

GC

I believe the small loft adjustments (.06) flatten the lie angle slightly

After all the reviews I've read I'm starting to think all the spin I had wasn't just the shaft. I wanted the Max to bee just a 460 version of the G400, but maybe they went the high handicap route and added a ton of spin too.

Maybe you should just change to a LST head?

The Tour 65 is a great shaft -- much better than the Alta IMO. You hit the Hzrdus Yellow 65? I thought they only had the 75, but how'd that go -- feel and swing weight? I've been thinking a tipped yellow 65 would be perfect for me.

Actually now that I recall it was a 75gram shaft on the HZRDUS and it felt stout. Almost like it was thick.

Big plus adjustment - sky rocket ! Lands likes a sheep dog in front of a log fire ~ David Feherty

Little minus adjustment more run.

But a lot to do with angle of attack and launch and Trackman calculations

I had a fitting yesterday with ny gamer vs the Max. My gamer beat the Max in every category.

I  am a big believer in Pings Equipment,  I have owned them all. But for me the MAX is super special.

My Max has eliminated the left side for me which is huge. And the forgiveness off the charts for me as well

Which Accra shaft did you install? Not much info on them.

This will be in my bag for a  l o n g  time.

I've read that once or twice on this site before.

I guess since you don't know me, my swing, or my purchasing habits, you can only ASSume this, however, I'm sure you seen that phrase somewhere before!

Calm down dear. I was making a joke about the tendency of WRXers, me included, to say a club is staying in the bag for a "long time", only for it to be replaced 6 months later. I wasn't talking about you specifically. Seems like you're a little touchy on the subject though, which is weird.

I do like what you did with the word ASSume in your post though. That was clever.

I really wish I could give this driver the credit it truly deserves, rented an M3 and a GT-180 for 14 days, the max murdered it. Now I have it going up against the Rogue and F8, the competition is closer as the rogue is out driving it by around 10-15 yds on avg and the F8 is around 15-20 yds longer but the ping still comes out on top, it just goes straight, every.single.time. Iíd much rather hit fairways than drive it an extra few steps.

Just find the optimal shaft for the Max...to MAXIMIZE Ping :)

ps the Jail break tech is legit, its long on my Epic, Rogue improved on that by just a tad...but you're right, the Max murders the Callaway drivers for forgiveness.
