The G400 is already pretty forgiving.  Would be cool if the Max version is 460 with more forgiveness.  Hopefully it's neutral biased as well.

had to come up with something Bubba would put in the bag? I couldn't believe there wasnt a 460cc version with the original launch.. Ping has always been known for offering forgiving drivers.

Would that configuration (slightly lower volume, farther-back weight and extremely high MOI) produce more spin?

Interesting since I thought the whole premise of going to 440cc was to move weight to a more optimal position and increase forgiveness over the G. Surely, they couldn't have made a driver that defied what they just did not long ago.

Supposedly the smaller head gained some club head speed along with the other improvements (1-3 mph as I remember). 15 cc less probably accounted for .0001 mph..I look forward to trying it as all 3 of the G400 models did nothing for me. Tried multiple premium and all option shafts and not one model was as good as the G and G30 from prior years. Maybe a Max will compete with previous models for me..

be interesting to see where they price this one too - I am thinking lower than the other models if they are targeting the game improvement market.

It’s a G20 with an adjustable hosel and chickenpox on the top. Sure it has a changeable weight, but that’s a G20 at heart.

I think it will actually be priced a little bit higher.

Rumor I heard, was the Max was supposed to be in the original G400 line, but they had some trouble manufacturing the heads with the weight clear in the back.

The 445cc was to improve the aerodynamics of the head, and retain roughly the same MOI as previous versions.  Looks like the G400 Max will be geared for max MOI.

Our rep. said the G400 max, Vault 2 putters, stealth wedges will be available early February (8th I think). The G700 irons coming in March. Evidently all the big retailers saw all this including new bags back in early November. Good job of keeping the driver secret as only rumors of irons and wedges followed by putters was out there.

I actually posted about the G400 Max drivers months ago.  It's a 460cc max MOI driver, coming in 2 loft configurations, that plays 1.5 degrees higher than stated loft.  Several of us have been talking about it for a while in some of the other PING threads.

Must have missed it. Surprised because I religiously read all G400 threads to look for hint as to why it was a total disaster for me after years of nothing but successs with Ping drivers (going back to K1 Driver). They were worse than the old Si3 drivers (both sizes 340, 380)

I agree with SubaruWRX, besides the changes in: face material, face milling, longest MOI of any legal driver ever built, reduced bulge and roll design, "rain gutter" outter edge face edge to keep the face dry/ maintain some spin, improved face texture for consistent spin, significantly lightened crown&face, radically improved aerodynamics, changes to headweight/ shaft length/ swingweight, improved shaft options, great new headcover design & different overall sound/ feel.  Its basically the same driver........  and underneath it all Susan Boyle and Kate Upton are the same woman.

Just like all the improvements to the last model G. How did those turbulators work out? Big improvements aerodynamically. “Radical”. Yeah, each one is longer, straighter, and more forgiving, yada yada yada.

Same thing is spewed for every release. Buy into it if you like.

Where does this come from? It plays 1.5 degrees higher than stated loft? Because of the design?

Baddeley is playing one at 11.25 degrees. Another staffer, Seamus Power, is playing G400 Max at 9.5 degrees.

This is coming straight from PING, and by design.

Hi guys, haven't seen any posts on experiences with the G400 Max. So here goes, I almost bought a G400 SFT (Straight Flight Tech - anti fade - and you cannot turn it left to right) back in January $659 aussie $. I didn't as all the hoopla started about TwistFace, so I waited for TwistFace. I'm a 14 marker. The M4 was ok, I didn't like the M3 - I didn't muck around with the adjustments much to be honest and they only had one regular shaft ( so I will try again). I don't update clubs much as I tend to play the same 6 courses with buddies. Lately I've being playing much hard courses where I need to control driver as a foot off the fairway is lost ! My gamer is a TaylorMade R580 XD from about 2004. Shaft is Stiff, 65 grams, low torque (whatever that is!) Tip Firm. The Pro at the driving ranges laughs at it being so old and then I put a few holes in his back fence at 245 meters (Australia) with crappy range balls. Anyway I was hitting it mediocre at the range today - army golf - left / right / left / right and he said try the G400 Max with an Alta Distanza 40g shaft. I said OK but I'll snap it ! (Swing speed 108mph). So ... SOOO .... BOOM ! Set at 10.5° it launches higher than a Jason Day 8 iron and carried to the back fence straight as a die. I've never seen anything like it ! Fluke ! So try again - same ! Pro said just slow your swing down a bit - IT IS F@#$%N’ INSANE !! 4 in a row into the back fence, super straight and super higher. We knocked the launch angle down to 2 notches I guess that's 9.5° and that was much better, it was the end of a large bucket session and I was getting tired and then I hit a few slices. I’ll get a proper fitting next week. The head on these is huge and it has the highest MOI on the market - approaching illegal ! Light as a feather. I've always sought out stiffer shafts perhaps I'm erring. I'll get them to put me on TrackMan and we'll see what happens.

Thanks for the review, seems like this club is a winner. Very much liking what Ping has done lately. I'm looking to add the stealth wedges and will roll the PLD mid-mallet, rincon neck putter once released.

The problem with a light shaft like that is that on the range, when you are making swing after swing, it might work great.  The PROBLEM starts when you go to a course with tight fairways, and you only hit driver about once every 12 minutes.

Good luck with that.

The hype about this club is real. I have the 10.5* with the Alta shaft and unless you have a REAL poor swing, this will go straight, period.I'm not a Ping guy but in all my years of playing golf, I've never had a straighter driver with my swing and believe me, it's no where near perfect. The dispersion is within 5-7 yards of center of the fairway hits. This will be in my bag for a  l o n g  time.
