Part of me wants Rickie to win majors this year, but part of me doesn't so I can get the 2018 newest offerings this fall for cheap. Puma apparel is where the money is for them anyway. They just need enough golf exposure to keep the racks moving and Rickie and Lexi do that. I could see Bryson signing with someone else after his contract is up. Don't think he fit the mold as much as they thought he would.
They both have put a lot into the one length thing to give up so quickly. He did win last year even if it was an opposite field event.

I don't think Cobra gets the respect it deserves.  I would put my current F7+ up against anything on the market and  those that it replaced including Epic SZ, Ping G400 LST and TM M2.  Interested in trying the new line to see if I can pick up anything over my current set up.

It would appear they get a good bit of respect amongst us amateurs, not so much from the pro`s.

Was a Golf Galaxy today and sales guy told me it was the #1 requested club the last two weeks? Might be Cobra's year?

That would be shocking to me.  Cobra drivers have a great rep on WRX and other guys that really know their equipment.  I have yet to see that translate to retail.  When I worked in retail we had to dust off the Cobra drivers because they would go weeks without customers even looking at them.

I hope this keeps up for Cobra, but it is also the only new driver that is currently available.

Rickie won the Honda. Bryson won the John Deere, which was opposite a WGC if I remember right. Either way it wasn't a strong field.

I play primarily Callaway - the clubs just fit my eye. That said, I got to hit the FlyZ and Ping G30 drivers circa 2015, and the F6 the following year.

I really liked the FlyZ long clubs - driver, FWs and hybrids; the hybrids are in my bag now. The FlyZ driver hit the ball longer on solid hits, and was hot, but a bit hard to control (I might have fared better with a slightly lighter shaft).

The Ping G30 gave me more consistent flight, almost as long as FlyZ better shots. This was the regular G30 head, 10.5* with the stock TFC 419D shaft in R-flex. The G30 gave me the best numbers of any driver I tested in 2015 (I still have notes), but I was simply not in the market for a driver that year.

In 2016 I hit the F6 in Orlando, and then again at a local demo day.  F6 was a good club, but just didn't have that raw power appeal of the FlyZ.

Likewise, I got good numbers from the Srixon Z545 driver, once a low-torque shaft was swapped in.

And at the 2017 spring Golf Expo in St. Louis, hitting the Mizuno JPX 900 driver with the Fuji Evolution II 569 R.flex  was a thoroughly pleasant experience.

Here's the story: There's a lot of good clubs out there. Most of the major OEMs make a driver or a set of irons I could play - as long as I got the right shafts installed. But, the casual golfer gets bombarded so much by the TM vs. Callaway battle, they may not notice other brands as much.
What's In The Bag *...

Driver:  Calla XR16 Pro 10.5° (set open) / Fuji Evolution II TS Speeder 665 R-flex 63 gr.
FWs: Tour Edge XRail 4W + 7W / GraphiteDesign G60 R-flex 60 gr.
  or Calla Alpha 815, set 16° + 20° / Fuji Motore Speeder 665 R-flex 62 gr.
Hybrid:  Cobra FlyZ 3H 19° + 4H 22° / Matrix VLCT Altus Lite flex 73 gr.
Irons: Calla X20 Tour 4i-9i / NS Pro 8950GH R-flex 97 gr.
Wedge:  Calla MD3 48°/8.SS + 54°/12.WS - KBS Tour R-flex 110 gr. |

Putter:   Ping B60 / 34" w. Winn ProX 1.8 grip

I don’t think so. It was a big 2017 for callaway, but cobra has never been a front runner. They make a great product, and I finally put the f7+ in the bag. Couldn’t be happier.

Got my new F8 driver this past Tuesday and two range sessions confirm what I saw in store testing last month: It is an excellent offering. I find it to be longer than my 917D2 and much straighter/more forgiving. I compared the two with alternating swings and the Cobra was much better for me. Hit about 8 of them over the back net yesterday which I have not done in quite awhile being that I am in my mid 50's.

I got the all black version and like it. Most people like the multi-color one.

Cobra makes some great clubs but they are losing the battle of the store shelf space, at least here in NY.  I don't see many stores carrying Cobra clubs, my clients cite the lack of demand combined with heavy discounting as reasons they don't dedicate a lot (if any) space to their products.

I don't see retailers dedicating more space to Cobra until Kering completes the Puma spin off and they can see how Puma will approach the golf market as an independent corporation that has to be profitable.

It took me several Cobra driver shaft combos, the Fly Z plus with Red Tie is what I landed on.  Its the best driver I've owned in quite some time. Their offerings take a back seat nobody.

That would be shocking to me.  Cobra drivers have a great rep on WRX and other guys that really know their equipment.  I have yet to see that translate to retail.  When I worked in retail we had to dust off the Cobra drivers because they would go weeks without customers even looking at them.

Opposite for us.  We sold out of the F7 twice in 2017, same with the F6 in 2016.  The F6 irons were our best selling iron for the first quarter of 2017, I lost track of the amount of people I had to turn away because we were selling so many of them and ran out.  Just two weeks ago I had a guy hit the 2017 M2 against the F6 and the F6 smoked it by a good 10 yards of carry and was far straighter.  A week ago I beat out a guy's r7 SuperQuad by 50 yards consistently with the LTD Pro.  He was also 10 yards longer with the LTD Pro over top of 2017 M1/M2 and XR16 Pro, all no slouches in the distance category if you ask around.  Cobra works for a lot of people, most just don't know the name because they've heard of King Cobra, but don't know its actually the same thing.  That and TM and Callaway pump so much money into driver advertising it's sickening.

I'm fortunate that I can play what I think performs best for me

LTD Pro truly does that. It wasn't a compromise for price. As long as they keep making great equip like they have with F8 series, they will have a following.

I do agree that some slight changes in marketing, retail store agreements and pros would only help. They could also do a bit more for junior golf in terms of tournament sponsorships, deals with teams, colleges etc. They are many ways to grow the brand. I do think Cobra is a brand that should survive and thrive and worth keeping alive

This.  I too can afford to buy any driver on the market, yet I do the same as most of you; I go through a lot of testing.  I am not and have never been brand loyal.  I've owned at least one driver from the so-called "top dogs" during my lifetime.  The last several years, the only two driver brands that seem to meet my swing characteristics are Taylormade and Cobra.  Now it's 2018 and here I go again.  It is down to the TM M1 and Cobra F8.  Callaway never felt good to me (mushy); Titleist didn't offer me the best combination of distance and forgiveness and Ping has never wowed me with distance.  My golf shop owner, who has the 3rd highest grossing shop in the State, told me today that this Cobra is off the charts good and the buzz is great.  I look forward to my final testing with it and the M1.

... When I consider the best drivers I have ever owned and think were truly special, my list would look like this:

TaylorMade 510tp
Titleist 975D
Bridgestone J33r
Mizuno MP 600
But the Cobra Fly Z  is my #1 choice for best ever because the combination of trajectory, distance, accuracy and forgiveness is the best I have played. If it spun just a little less and had a better AOD, it would still be in my bag.

... So that is 5 different OEMs and I am playing the Epic now and really like it but for me at least it just isn't special. I have played plenty of Taylor Made drivers that I liked but my favorites have been Cobra starting with the Pro S, then ProS9.1, ZL, Fly Z, F6 and this year the Cobra F8 with an Even Flow is far and away my front runner, but I will hit every driver at the show as ya never know unless you try them all.

This is only my opinion, but for the average leisure golfer who pays no attention to getting fit for clubs, or Trackman numbers. He is looking at what the pro`s play and assumes those are the best clubs. For me it`s perception, if you see enough people using a certain brand, it`s gotta be the best. If only one or two people use a certain brand it must not be very good.

Obviously, this isn`t true. But I thinks it`s pretty evident in all consumer goods across the board, image sells. People sell products.

The Even Flow is my first choice for the F8.  On paper it seems to match past shafts I've played.  Do you like it?  What would you compare it to?

... I have only hit it into a net indoors, but it is similar to my Rogue Black just a little smoother. I will have tp see what kind of spin numbers I get outdoors with a LM but figure either the Blue will fit me or I can go to the Black if the Blue spins too much.

... A friend of mine was a manager of a Golfsmith for 10 years and it was extremely rare for an average golfer looking at clubs to know what any PGA Pro was playing. In those 10 years he never had a customer come in and ask for the club someone played or won with on tour, with the exception of the Big Mac Putter Nicklaus used to win at Augusta because it was so different than anything out at the time and it was a monumental win. Forum members know what pro's play but the average golfer has no idea and precisely why they buy low end Tour Edge, Lynx and other off brand cheap clubs. And those that bought premium OEM clubs were usually steered to them by a sales rep or hit a bunch of clubs off the mats in the store and then chose the one they liked the best.

I consider myself as an average golfer, I try to play once a week. It does not consume my life, I`m not obsessed with it. Before I joined here, I knew who played what brand. I assume that`s because I follow it and watch it also.

I think the people who are buying the cheaper stuff A) Don`t have thousands of dollars to shell out.  B). Likely are first time buyers, not sure if they will like it or not and don`t want to waste money for something to sit in the garage and collect dust.

Your friend is talking about 32 years ago, do you suppose the times have changed maybe a little?

I donít know. Iím a top 5% golfer - I play 100+ rounds, I watch at least a little bit of every PGA event (and the majors wire-to-wire), and I canít really tell you who plays what.

Ricky Fowler is obvious because of the Puma getup.

Dustin Johnson has always been a TM kinda guy.

I assume Mickelson is still with Callaway. But if he had changed at some point, I wouldnít notice.

Beyond a couple of guys, I have no idea. But my perception is that a lot of guys are playing TM woods.

Nope.  In the last 15 years I could not fill one hand with people saying:

"I want the driver/irons/wedges that Player X is playing."

Putters however are a different story in that the telecasts spend so much time showing results on the greens.

All of the below clubs are ordered to replace my stolen set

Cobra F8+ 10.5*, Project X Even Flow Blue 65 R

Callaway Rogue 15* , Fuji Pro Green 62 R

Ping G400 hybrids 19*, 22*, Alta 70 R

Miura Custom 52*, Rogue 115 S

Ping Glide Stealth 58*, Alta 70 R

Cobra makes some great clubs but they are losing the battle of the store shelf space, at least here in NY.  I don't see many stores carrying Cobra clubs, my clients cite the lack of demand combined with heavy discounting as reasons they don't dedicate a lot (if any) space to their products.

I don't see retailers dedicating more space to Cobra until Kering completes the Puma spin off and they can see how Puma will approach the golf market as an independent corporation that has to be profitable.

It's sad to see.  Cobra has been pulled from shelves here as well.  I believe Golf Galaxy pulled it everywhere but will keep a few demo's for people to try.  Death nail if you ask me.
