I've been looking at this putter as a possible pickup but I'm no expert on machine putters. Can anybody tell me about this? Ball park value? Model? Any info in general? Its hard to find good info on these from a basic google search. Posted Image

Well considering the shape Machine is in as a business I wouldn't put much value to it. They are high quality but Dave who owns Machine appears to be going under and is currently scamming people.

right. that's what I have heard. I wouldn't be buying this from them though. just making a trade in the $150 range.

I would say it's worth $150 and that's a pretty good trade. Dave's work is outstanding quality as that isn't in question.

I wouldn't venture far north of $250-$300 though.

That's a stubby plumber's neck M1A fixer (i.e. the flange can't be changed out) with the arc balanced closer. That's the spud on hte heel that was supposedly used to help square the face at impact.

For $150 that's a really good deal

ETA: it may not be an M1A due to there not being a cavity but it is one of the fixer models

can you elaborate more on how he's scamming people? I game a machine and am considering getting a second... I've been going around telling everyone and their mother that it's the truth

He's taking money people paid for putters and never delivering the product. Plenty of comments in the machine thread.

Machine putters are great, just DO NOT buy direct from Machine anymore.  Trust me when I say this, if you go down that route, you’ll be highly disappointed.

I have 3 of these masterpieces.  The first is from Dave's first 100 made/sold, has a lot of custom work on it, stampings, melted bumpers, weight, etc.  It's Aluminum Bronze. The second is one I plan on selling it's an M2A Converter 303 Stainless Antique Charcoal Bronze finish, all stock, has a few bumper weights, and both a standard and fat back flanges, and std length hosel (I prefer long necks).  The third and my gamers (I hope for a long time) is a billet copper longneck. Feel is unsurpassed.

I bought the first one direct from Dave, and the others via authorized resellers.

I am torn, all three transactions were flawless - if sometimes slow - but slow can be a good thing (see custom work as an example).  The product if you are able to obtain one is as nice as anything I have tried, I have never used a real scotty handmade/custom, but I have used and tried MANY MANY putters over the years, and the machine is easily as good if not better than ALL of the others - prices from the various sources are presently excellent, but like others have said (and this really is sad), I would have a tough time buying direct unless what I wanted was already made and available. If I wanted custom - of any kind I would have to do a lot of thinking first - or buy in the secondary market.

I hope he comes back from this - I really do, his manufacturing and component (for lack of a better word) concept - for flanges, hosels, weights etc is truly innovative (or was when it first came out), but in the end there is no excuse for accepting funds without delivering an agreed upon product.

Dave is a great putter maker and my several machines are of the highest order in terms of finish and performance.

It APPEARS unfortunate though that he's not the best when it comes to the business side of machine.  It pains me to read all the recent posts.  I'm looking to sell my Big Bore but don't think I will ever let go of my 2 Machine Damascus.  I think for the past few years Dave was for me the undisputed King of Damascus etching.

Getva machine, no regrets from a performance and product pov.  Unfortunately of late, it suggests caution how you get it.

Well, i ended up making the trade. I sent out a studio select newport 2.5 that i never really felt a connection with. Hopefully it was a good deal. The machine should be here tomorrow. Im excited to see how it feels.

I'm curious about the heel weight. Anyone have any opinions on it? Does it change the feel, help the face close, make the head super heavy?

All the finish has worn off that putter. Don't stress, I am willing to take it off your hands.

+1

Sad really, MACHINE could have been one hell of a putter company. Their out of the box thinking and innovations puts most existing companies to shame with their same-ole-same-ole. Real pieces of art and the closest ANYONE to ever get to the "Transformer" of putters.

I have the M2A with multiple flange backs and some very, very nice necks / shafts & ability to change the lie/loft angles.  My pieces are never ever going to be sold even if MACHINE goes out of biz - but I hope not.

I hope Dave learns his lesson, get a business manager to run the business and Dave should only be allowed in the workshop, thats where hes best at.

Haha, thats a very friendly gesture but i sure wouldn't feel right about sending someone a putter that is not it tip top condition. I guess I'll just hang on to it and see if i can convince myself to roll it even though the finish is shot.

It looks bronze to me. Bronze is lighter than steel, if I remember right 6% lighter. It might patina over time.

I have been gaming an adjuster for years. Several times I have inquired about getting additional weight screws without ever getting a response.

Dave is a great innovator but as far as customer service it was hit and miss. I never understood why his primary sales person for years was active military and didn't have internet access at times. When people are paying $500+ for a putter they don't want to hear that your primary contact doesn't have access to the internet.

Over the last couple of years radio silence was a commonplace after they took your money. He has left a lot of people twisting in the wind after getting paid. Sad really Dave is a very talented guy.

Thanks for the info. Any idea on what exact model it is, its age, what its value is? I have no intent to sell as i love the feel and look of it. Im just curious about what i have exactly?

I suppose i could try emailing pics to Dave but the consensus seems to be that that would get me nowhere?

LOL don't bother contacting Dave. Looks like a M1A Fixer to me as someone else mentioned. No way to tell it's age. Given that they went bankrupt I doubt it would be worth a lot for resale but he made great putters.
