Typically on past heads with Callaway that means "Light."  Meaning a lighter head.  Usually those kinds of markings are 'tour' only however.

Looks good at address.  Probably an improvement there over the last model.  Interesting that the COG is not very low.  For those that have had a chance to test:  does this launch a little lower than the previous version?

Wonder if there is still a visible bulge in the back on lower lofts at the sole at address?  Seems like the sole may be a bit narrower than the Apex was?

Hum...Nice.

More offset than some might like, but I think some offset is always helpful on a long iron.

I think I may need one or two.

Would love to have the swing speed to benefit from this club. A 3 iron from the tee. Looks outstanding. Maybe the apex ut will go for cheaper

Last generation of the Apex UT had a tour only “DI” driving iron version, I think only in one loft. I wonder if they’ll do that again for something even more iron like.

Will the five iron be a good replacement for the x Forged five iron?  Comparable distance, higher ball flight, and a bit easier to hit?

Think your eye is playing tricks. Listed offset in specs is lower any driving iron on the market.

Apex UT in new is pretty much extinct. Highly doubt you’ll see any on the market or a change in price

I assume it would be easy enough, due to its forged construction, to bend the 18* a degree or two stronger?

Maybe it's because my newest club is a x2 hot pro hybrid, but doesn't $250 sound kind of steep for a DI? Guess I have been living under a rock the last couple of years..

Had the same thought.  Makes trying to do a mixed set a bit pricey.   Although the Apex UT was $229 at release.

I'd say it's about average, maybe slightly above average.

Gents

I spent some time hitting all the offerings last month, including the UT.

They are a bit lower launching and less spin but are longer from a Ball speed perspective you’ll see 2-3mph vs the X Forged. They feel great and look like a driving iron should, clean and not bulgy.

Let me know if you have any questions

Doesn't look much different then the Apex UT except the back obviously with the triangle shaped weight pad and slight beveled edge on the rear of the sole. Oh, no weight screw either.  Is there much difference in playability?

I was able to test the X Forged UT 21* w/PX 6.0 (stock offering) out today and, my goodness, it feels so much better than my MP18 FliHi 2 iron (16.5*) w/Modous 105X.  Obviously two different setups to compare, but the X-Forged UT feels just as good as the new X-Forged irons.

These are super long, I play my 21 degree at std 4 iron length and have no issues hitting it 205m (225 yards roughly).

I’m about 88-90mph CHS when I’m warmed up with the 7 iron to give you an indication.

Super easy to bend too, I bent mine a little flatter and it was a piece of cake 😀

I just pre-ordered mine.

Can anyone speak on the club's forgiveness? I play a 712u, which is fine, but I've hit other driving irons that were much easier to hit.

I'm hoping the x forged is an improvement in that area.

Not seeing many of these in Tour bags.  In fact, a lot of guys seemed to have dropped their Apex UT also?  Interesting.....
I think it's the type of club that guys will add to their bag depending on the course set up.  I get a feeling we will see more guys put these into play on narrow tracks as the PGA tour season progresses.

I've had the chance to hit the X Forged UT for a couple of days. I also hit the 718 T-mb to compare. I'll also mention that I brought in my PXG 0311T 3 iron just to compare, and a Titleist 816 H2 18 Degree hybrid. Obviously this isn't a fair comparison, a true comparison for the pxg would be the 0311X. But, I wanted to see the difference in ball flight, forgiveness, and distance.

Callaway X Forged UT 3 utility - Project X 6.0
Titleist T-MB 718 3 utility - Project X PXI 6.0
PXG 0311T 3 iron - Nippon 120 S
816 H2 18* Hybrid - D+ 90 X

I'll start by mentioning that I was hitting these on a Foresight CG2. Flat range, I hit everything off the deck.

3 iron and hybrid played exactly like I expected. The hybrid was actually a 2 hybrid loft. It has a Graphite shaft, and was slightly longer than the utility irons. The hybrid maxed out around 275ish (I never tried to max out distance with a pull draw though) I find the hybrid easy to hit long and straight, but I can also hit a big slice with it. The 3 iron was the hardest club to hit. (as expected) On my best strikes it was close to 250. Ball flight was low, and I found it was easier to go left with this. I plan on testing this off the tee when I can (I use this as a fairway finder when I don't trust 3 wood, it's a little easier to hit off a tee)

The Callaway X Forged UT and the Titleist 718 T-MB were the clubs I hit the most. I'm a big Titleist fan, but I am using a Callaway/Toulon putter as well. So I think I'm fairly unbiased. I love the look of both clubs, but when in my bag the 718 T-MB looks a little better. When I'm about to swing, I think the X Forged UT is more confidence inspiring. It has a slightly thicker topline, but it's not thick either. I find it to be an excellent compromise between long iron and hybrid. The T-MB isn't exactly too thin, but it's rather thin on top. Still looks easier to hit than the usual long iron of course.

Both clubs feel really good, but the callaway gets the nod over the T-MB. The PXG 0311T beats both for feel though. Which isn't surprising. Any forged long iron would feel excellent.

Both utility irons were plenty long. I had a some go over 250 with both 3 irons. But most stayed in the 235 to 245 range. It seemed like mishits with the UT still went 225+, which surprised me. The T-MB was no slouch either.

Ball flight was between the long iron and the hybrid. (duh) I was glad they weren't going too high. I like having a nice low trajectory with a utility.

Most important though, both utility irons performed well. I was going back and forth between them, struggling to find which I liked better. I realized that I felt a little more confident with the X Forged UT, and I found that the UT also had the edge on forgiveness.

All this being said, I would be happy with both the X Forged UT and the T-MB. I like the looks of the tungsten on the Titleist, but I like having a hair more confidence while looking down on the UT (especially if it's my first shot in the tee without warm up)

I plan on testing the 0311X next, but I'm thinking I might order a UT or T-MB first.

Ping G400 LST 8.5 - Graphite Design AD TP 6TX or HZRDUS T1100 65 6.5
Ping G400 Stretch AD TP 8TX or AD TP 7X
Taylormade p790 3 Iron - KBS 120 (looking for a PX LZ 125 6.5)
4 to PW PXG 0311T - Project X LZ 6.5 (5 to pw) Nippon 120 (4)
Titleist Vokey Wedgeworks SM6 RAW - 50F - 54S - 58M or Vokey SM6 Black 50F - 54F - 58S
Toulon Indianapolis or Taylormade Chaska

When I need the ball to land soft, or I am playing in a simulator, I'll sub in these hybrids for my 3 and 4 irons.
