Hi all
Just wondering what your thoughts are on using video game golf as a tool to teach the game especially in the off season like we are right now in Canada covered in snow.
My kids are 7 and 5 and are getting into it. Trying teach them the easier points of the game like keeping score amd what to do where etc.
we donít allow our kids to play video games but I like having them play just a short half hour game on ps3 or ps4 the funner games like hot shots etc. I find it gets them excited to talk about golf at the least.
What are your thoughts on this?

Taylormade r11s 10.5 (Diamana kaiíli stiff 70 x5ct)
Taylormade RBZ Stage 2 3-wood
Titleist 690.mb 4-PW (S300)
Callaway Mack Daddy 2 (52.12, 56.08, wedge flex)
Vokey SM4 (black nickel 60.7 wedge flex)
Odyssey Metal X #8, 34" Pingman blackout grip
Ball (donations found in the trees)
Titleist stand bag
Nike TW '14 white

We have no game systems in the house (7 And 4YO) and limit screen time in general, save for the occasional game or learning app when I just can't take it anymore, ha! Not judging, just seen the effects on my kids friends, teammates, etc. but to each his own.  Anyhow, I do occasionally let my son play WGT on my iPad or phone if he asks....pretty realistic  , he thinks Courses are cool, and I look at it as it's feeding (but not pushing )his interest in golf.

Instead of video games you could watch any of ten thousand YT videos.  Recently started watching final round highlights that only take half an hour and show some real golf.  Easy way to keep their interest with a relatively short time period plus their favorite golfers.

the more you watch things on TV and your kids watch you do it, they are going to want to as well. my son is 11 mons, and when I have a tournament on he'll sit there and watch with me sometimes. his attention span is short, but he likes watching it. and then i'll take him to putt on the carpet, and he likes playing with the putter and what not. it's all about immersing your children into things and let them take hold on their own.

for what it's worth, ESPN/Sports are constantly on in my house because I'm hoping he'll catch hold of one of the many we watch and keep that interest in him as he gets older.

I'll just say playing Tiger Woods on the Xbox as a kid was what got me into golf.  I was probably more like 10 or 11 years old at the time though.  I would have never thought about playing in reality if I didn't play the video game first.

I got interested in golf when I was about 10 playing NES and game boy golf games. Never cared for the realistic games as they seemed to “adult”. Hot shots golf was the most fun. Which is now Everybody’s Golf.

We now play TGC hitting real clubs for golf games as well as we just got Everybody’s Golf for PS4.

Have em go outside and skip rocks across the water/ice, helps develop a good hip turn.  You can't skip a rock without a good turn....
