My only one qualifies.  Second hole at a nice private club I was lucky enough to join as an intermediate a few years ago.  It's 169, downhill by a 1-1.5 club.  Standard 7-8 iron for most of the players.  Maybe a 9 if the wind was favourable.  Water short left, a bunker level on the right, and a severe upslope passed the back of the green and behind and to the right of the bunker that was all fescue, trees, and long grass.  Not an overly easy hole, but not a brute either do the iron typically selected to play it.

I basically shanked my iron, but caught enough face that it didn't do the grotesque 90* nosedive in mid air.  It landed about 3/4 of the way there but had enough steam to speed by the water unharmed, it looked like it was tracking for the bunker but the "fairway" before the green was long enough to kill some of the speed.  The severe slope gently fed my ball away from the bunker and fescue and into the teeth of the flag, where it gently plunked in.  I saw it go in, despite being disgusted with myself.  I was playing with my boss who was a decent 4 handicap at the time and his friend who was also pretty solid with a handicap around the same, if not better.  I just shook my head in disgust while they all clapped me on the back.  I was happy, but was also secretly hoping it would have been a better shot.

Hopefully that was one of many.  In simulator golf I have dunked one, bounced one off the flag stick, and lipped one out.  So I feel like it is possible I could get one again if the stars all align.

My uncle, who is left handed, got a hole in one the first time I golfed with him two years ago. He has a horrendous slice but knows how to play it and actually scores under 100 regularly. He got his hole in one on a 173 yard par 3 with his 3 wood. Actual wood club. Spalding. Many drinks followed.

The only HIO I’ve witnessed is my own, so I guess I’m the worst golfer I’ve seen make one.

I've only witnessed one, my friend who is an average golfer, 16 cap. Luckily his hole in one was one of the most perfect hit PW from 140 I've ever seen him hit, one bounced into the hole.

Playing with a buddy of mine, I always initial my ball, 185yd par 3, front of the green had a trap protecting it and slopes away towards the rear. Hit a 5i that I caught a tad fat, felt like it would be short, possibly in the trap, at least that’s where I thought it landed. When we approached the green I couldn’t see my ball anywhere. I’m still looking in the trap and my friend says “hey....look at this..” I look in the hole and there’s my ball. Evidently the ball had just cleared the ridge over the trap and tracked into the hole.

I played a par 3 course with my friend and his wife a while ago.  It was her first time golfing.  On a 110 yard hole, she hit a worm burner that bounced 10+ times before finally rolling on to the green and into the cup.  Talk about beginner's luck!

Not a HI1, but played with a sweet, but real real old guy in Phoenix area (The Palms, maybe?).  Anyway, short par 3, he had about 100y from his tee.  Pulls driver, tops it (as he had been doing all day) into thick bushes at the front of the senior tee box.  It sort of stayed in the bushes for a second or two and then miraculously trickled out through rocks, cactus and space junk in the waste area, up a slope, through more cactus and weeds, into a side hill part of the green that was just plain rough, and onto the surface expiring three feet from the cup.  Our group went crazy and almost hi-fived the guy to death.  Golf is a wonderful thing.

Did not see it, but it is legend at our club.  Rank beginner, toes one off the tee, gets it on a cart path, rolls down the hill, hits a rock, yep, jumps on the green and into the jar for an ace.  I have talked to people who witnessed it, it was in a holiday scramble, so I kinda believe it happened.

Mate of mine got one, if he was to play properly he need about a 45 handicap. Swings the club like it's going to give him an STD.

Only a short 3 about 125m. I was there to witness it, ugliest thing I've ever seen.
Massive over the top cut that started about 20 feet to the left, cut back in and pitched about 10 feet from the hole, I called it as soon as it did and sure enough it dropped.

But good luck to him, I didn't say anything other than a few high fives, some photos and congratulations. He was stoked.

Did not personally witness it but during member guest at a club I worked at we had a 28 handicap member make a $10,000 ace. Another member in the foursome ahead had just lipped out and got to see the guy make it.

A good friend of mine has NINETEEN!  And I've seen five of those.

He's 80 now so I'm hoping he can get one more in there for an even twenty.

As for me?

Still waiting.......

An old work buddy of mine with bad back problems( 10 surgeries) had two before he gave up the game. He couldn't break 100 to save his life. And he didn't play golf his whole life.....maybe 6-7 years after he had to retire. I saw one of his too......a crappy line drive shot on a 120 yard hole. But it went in. Ha.

Not going to say he is the worst golfer I seen get one, but had a friend who holed out about 150 yard worm burner for an ace.

Two years ago, on the yearly buddies golf trip. We were playing 36 holes at En-Joie GC in Binghamton, NY. On the first 18, it was either hole #4 or 5. Guy in my group who plays maybe 6-7 times a year gets a HIO. He shot 115 for that round. I've never seen him break 100 ever.

To add to the story, we're coming around on the second 18 of the day, same hole. I land my shot about 5 feet short of the hole, it rolls towards it, misses a HIO by a couple inches, and rolls about 2 feet past. Now that would have been a great story, two HIOs on the same hole, in the same day.

The only person that I have seen with my own eyes having a hole in one is myself so the answer must be myself. That's not the sort of positivity I am needing to get the first weekend of 2018 started.

9th hole at home course. Group in front of us is playing blues.  190 yard par 3 with back right pin.  Guy is a higher handicap and playing from the blues is a struggle for him.  He cold tops his 3 wood and it runs all the way into the hole.  Damnedest thing, golf.

i did this, today, and I knew what I had done...I'm just an idiot.  Made a HI1.  Kept playing the same ball...made birdie on the next.  It's a good day!  Sprayed my drive on the next hole into the adjoining fairway.  Watched someone line up on it and realized "oh ****, I made a HI!1 with that ball".  From 260 yards away. They didn't hit it and I sprinted to the ball.  Someone else pulled up and I said "are you hitting a Chrome Soft?"  All said no.  Made par, put the ball in the bag.  Was pondering what the "you have to give me that ball back" conversation would have been like.

This isnt my personal story, but one of my co-workers is pretty avid golfer, and usually shoots in the low 80's.  His wife agreed to give playing golf a shot even though she wasn't overly interested in the sport so they would have an outdoor activity to do together.  So he gives her a couple swing lessons at a local driving range in the spring and they sporadically golf together that summer.

On not one, but TWO! separate occasions that summer, his wife got a hole in one at the local par 3 course.  First one was a worm burner that rolled in the hole, the 2nd she got into the air.  He has personally never had one, and has played probably 500 or more rounds during his life thus far.  After that summer she decided she didn't like golf and gave it up for good.

A young friend of mine recently made a hole in one on a legit 175 yard hole before he'd even played 10 rounds of golf.  He's a good athlete, but still a stone beginner.  I don't know if a HOI that early on will be an encouragement to him or a premature high point.  Time will tell...

My ex-boss.  Great guy, built like a linebacker but had zero athletic ability.  Several of us who worked for him play and he said he wanted to go out and play golf with us.  He admitted he was not much of a player (that was an overstatement) but would enjoy the company.  I think if we counted all his swings and misses he would have shot something like 140.  He understood the concept of the golf swing but had no clue how to execute it.  130something yard par 3.  He slashes at the ball, hits a semi shank that nails a tree about 80 yards off to the right bounds back towards the green, hits the ground maybe 15 yards short of the green, rolls up, hits the pin and falls in.  ACE.  I think for the next 5 years (he never went out with us again) until he retired every time golf was mentioned, we had to hear about his miracle shot and he would ask...Have you gotten a hole-in-one recently?  Fortunately, I was able to say, yes I have.

First HIO that I ever witnessed, playing behind a group, waiting on them to tee off on par 3 over water...one guy skulls it, skips 3 times on the lake, rolls up, hits the pin and falls in.  No idea how good or bad a player he was but was definitely a strange HIO.

FWIW, I have made 5 myself and witnessed 7 more.  2 different times I witnessed 2 in the same round and neither of them were mine.

One of my parents closest friends has played a lot of golf, it's a big passion of his. He used to be a scratch golfer, he's closer to 80 years old now, but still plays a lot and is good for his age (not sure about his handicap though).

When I was nine, I played a round with him and my father. I had played for a bout a year and this was one of the first times I played from the mens tees. I made a hole in one with my driver on a par three.

Couple years later, my father who has never been much of a golfer, particularly not back then, played with the same guy and my father made a hole in one.

Last year, my parents were playing with him when my mother made a hole in one.

The friend, who has most likely played more golf than all three of us combined and witnessed all three of us make one, has yet to make one himself. It's a topic we love to talk about with him.

Only one I have ever seen.  150yd PAR 3, pretty straight forward.  The guy I was playing with was someone I had met playing single and we got together a few times for a round.

He hits a nice shot, rolls in the cup.

We were both low 90's high 80's golfers, not so good.

Guy at our club, couldn't break 80, can't hit a drive over 200 yards. He has like 7 aces. He usually hits low runners, the ball just has a better chance of going in.

A guy in a scramble who couldn't break 100 if his life depended on it. He tees off first on a short par 3 (158 yards), yanks it dead left into the trees, hits 1 limb, hits, 2nd limb, out of the trees, lands on cart path, bounces 30 feet into the air, hits downslope on side of the green, shoots across the green, bangs into the stick. Disappears!!

Have to agree with some others on here . . . . . . . . me!  Oh, and also me!

Only other one I've witnessed was Andy Sullivan, so I'm pretty sure I'm the worst.

Easily, a guy I was paired with in my first club championship at my home course 11 years ago. He didnít get a ball airborne for the first 3 holes. Guy literally had 4 irons in his bag of 14 clubs. None lower in loft than his 48 degree PW.

Short, 145 yard par 3, number 4, he hit this 7-wood on a line. It looked like a line drive you would see at Wrigley Field, never getting more than head high. The ball hits the false front on the elevated green, shoots straight up in the air maybe 30 or 40 feet, drops 6 inches in front of the cup and rolls in.

He signed for a 113........with an ace!

I've made three aces and two of them were good shots.  The third was pure luck.  I played on New Years Day and the ground was frozen solid.  Hit a shot short and right of the green and hit bounces off the hard ground about 20 feet in the air and goes straight into the cup.  Any other day it would have been short of the green by a mile.

As far as "worst player", I didn't see the lady make the ace but I had seen her play and she couldn't break 100 on a good day.  She apparently hit a toe shank dead right into the woods, the ball hits a tree, hits the cart path, and rolls down the hill onto the green and into the cup.

Friend's then soon to be father in law. 210 yd par 3. Think he had been playing for 3 or 4 years and rolled a driver on to the green and in the hole. With the 1 on that hole I believe he still shot 105. Was pretty tough to watch.
