Do not buy. I bought these clubs from him on 12/12 from his previous listing. Before paying he said he'd ship next morning (12/13). After payment he pushed the ship date to 12/15. No big deal. But from that point on he went silent. Messaged multiple times for shipment confirmation and a tracking #. Then yesterday he relisted the irons. Extremely frustrating. He asked me to gift him the money on paypal, glad I said no. Hopefully there aren't any issues getting my money back from paypal.

Has anyone had a similar experience and failed to get your refund?

Based on his brockaudi1 ebay account, looks like it's not the first time he's pulled this move. You should get your money back no prob, what a d1ck.

"I don't agree 100% with your analysis.  Yes, it's nice to hole out, which I did twice during last weeks game, but didn't need either to win those holes or the match.   All that was needed was a tap in to win each hole.  Of course, I was aiming from 20yds and 15yds with the intent to put the ball in the hole, but the expectation was tap-ins." Was this an eBay transaction or a BST transaction? I’ve done lots of both, and I’ve never had an eBay deal go down like yours. How in the world do you gift payment on eBay?

Or, did you do this deal outside eBay? If so, duh.

OP sorry for your luck, but be thankful you didn't gift.  This is a prime example on why gifting is not good.  Good luck getting your money back!

It was an ebay listing done outside ebay, but it was my idea to deal outside. He had just listed a 7 day auction, and I made him a buy it now offer to to take it down and be done with it. Lesson learned!

The description of his listing says he's using his wife's account (maddi-routh) but that his account is brockaudi1. Filter by seller and you see 3 straight negatives for him a year ago, for the same thing, not shipping the item.

I've done the same thing, on both ends. But, it's always just been a deal where the auction is ended and the item relisted (on eBay) as a ridiculously priced "Buy it Now" with a best offer option, which we've already agreed upon. The number one way to get scammed on eBay is to allow someone to let you take your deal outside of eBay. Step two is them asking you to gift payment.

You'll get your money back, thanks to PayPal. And, thanks for sharing the guy's info. Too bad there's nothing more you can do, because of the original deal being conducted outside of eBay. He'll pull this scam on someone else sooner than later.

Yeah that definitely would've been the smarter route, and has always been what I've done in the past as well. Either add the buy it now to the current listing or relist as you described. I'm most frustrated with myself because, like you said, since it was outside ebay I can't leave negative feedback to warn others. I did report his current listing to eBay though explaining the situation. eBay suspending my account (potentially) will be worth it if it shuts him down.

Luckily I did get my money back from Paypal! But this guy continues to list the irons, 3rd or 4th listing since. I filed a complaint with eBay but they must not have believed me.

They probably believe you, but, don't care. Paypal is having to return the money for their unscrupulous sellers and they still have chance to bring in listing and selling fees. They seem to have deviated heavily from the business model that I remember when it first began. Glad you got your money back and thanks for outing the sleazeball.

Perhaps I am not getting it, but it has to cost eBay some money to refund a purchaser, for example, the time it takes an employee to review/research the claim, process the information, etc. (and doing this multiple times). However, they can't be earning much on a sale where the item isn't even sold, but simply re-listed. And, if it is eventually sold, they can't be earning much on an item like this.

I think they also risk losing the money all together. If the clubs sell, buyer pays, and he never ships again.... He goes and spends the money and there’s nothing for eBay to collect, while eBay is committed to crediting back the buyers money. They’ll charge his account but with a guy like this that’ll probably end up going to collections, and I don’t know how far it gets for eBay after that but if gets to personal bankruptcy settlements eBay is getting only pennies of that back I’d assume?
