All the top amateurs seemed to played custom MacGregor 985 irons. The Western Am was played where I caddied & it was Mac or Wilson's in most everyone's bags. Hogan wasn't the iron or wood of choice. Some Spalding - not too many PowerBilt either.

8802 putters were the ruling flatsticks but Ping was just getting started. Some Bullseye & I remember Andy Bean using an old Spalding Cash - In with a pencil thin shaft.

Anything Macgregor except for the split soled MTs. A lot of it had to do with the region you were in. In the Piedmont area of NC it was mostly Macgregor Wilson and Spalding. Eastern NC east of Raleigh was Hogan country. Those pencil thin Spalding shafts were .223 I have several Cash ins with that shaft and a couple of real early TP Mills with that shaft before TP went to a Bulls Eye/ 8802 style fluted shaft.
Driver: Homna G1-X Homna stiff shaft
3 Wood Adams Super S 15* Bassara Regular flex
Hybrid TM Rescue 22* TM stiff
Irons Mizuno Mp 68 3 thru PW S-300
SW Vokey SM-4 Oil Can 56* S-400
LW Hogan Sand Wedge 58* Apex shaft---- Yeah a real Hogan back when Hogan was Hogan
Putter- 1985 PGA Tommy Armour blade (yeah 8802 style)
Bag-- Old school Titleist stand about 10 or 12 years old
Vintage-- Too many variables to list and I get tired of updating this thing!
