A friend found this ball on the course, and it's clearly marked < Chrome - X - Soft >
instead of the usual Chrome Soft, or Chrome Soft X.

It had some other unusual markings stamped on it, batch or production numbers of some sort.

Anyone heard of it?

Good move on Callaway's part. Some people really loved the original chrome soft (a bit softer than current versions). An Xtra soft may give them room to firm up the chrome soft a bit from current levels without alienating those customers.  Halfway between the '17 chrome and the chrome x would be ideal for me.  Looking forward to the new 2018 line!

Callaway is putting out the feelers for people to test their new ball. I applied. I'm sure a million others did as well.

I was chosen to review them as well. I was given 1/20/2018 post date for my review. I will be at the PGA show in Orlando on the 24th and I bet they will be all over the place there

I think this is a great golf ball (CS x) and an improvement over the 2017 version.  I found it to be very low spin off the driver and mid irons while still checking up around the green.  The one knock I have is it feels a little dead/soft around the greens and off the putter.
