Quite a bit seems to have changed recently but no itís time to knuckle down and practice with what I have. Just over 2 months until the annual trip to Portugal which is when my season really begins. Weather here at this time of the year certainly isnít ideal but I get out the no matter what the weather is doing!

My game is pretty solid all round. Driving is what usually costs me when Iím off, I hit it pretty long so when itís wayward itís usually an advancement needed at best. Irons and wedge play is pretty solid and putting has always been my weakest point.
This year was the first time Iíd got below 10 and I also managed to finish 3rd in the club order of merit and made the club squad for the first time.

Goal for the new year is to get down to 7, a target I feel is very attainable if I can make my bad days a little more consistent with the driver.

The course I play is very tight heathland course so itís very punishing when Iím struggling, handicaps from our club usually travel very well in matches.

So here it the full bag for starters!

Driver - Taylormade M1 2017 9.5* - Aldila Rogue Silver 70x

This is a brand new addition. Last season I used the 2016 M2 and it was absolutely amazing, easily the best I have ever used. This season I have increased my attack angle so I have had to come down in loft slightly and also gone up a flex in the shaft as I prefer the feel.
The M1 hasnít had much time to prove itself but itís certainly brought the flight down to where I need it to be and the numbers are right where they should be. If it does start to play around, Iíll get 9.5* 2016 M2 without hesitation.

4 Wood - Taylormade M1 2017 17* - Aldila Tour Blue 75tx

Another new addition very recently. This club is an absolute weapon and in reality is what made me choose the M1 driver too. The 3 wood has never been a distance I need with the courses I play so the 4 wood just gives me a much nicer flight for Par 5s and shorter Par 4s for accuracy.
Canít see anything replacing this club now! The shaft has to play a massive part in this, it is just the perfect feel and flight for me.

Hybrid - Ping G25 20* - Ping Tour Stiff

Longest serving club in the bag here, and shows no signs of being replaced. All I want from my hybrid is a high flight and confidence out of the rough, this club gives me both. I have no desire to hit it longer as it fits in perfectly behind the 4 wood and behind my 4 iron. The Callaway Apex tried to beat it out, but I only really liked the head from the fairway and really hated the stock Kuro Kage shaft that mine came with from eBay.

Irons - Ping i200 4-W - Project X 6.0

These replaced my i25 irons at the start of the year. This set is exactly what I need on a bad day. Iím sure another set might beet it out on looks when Iím playing my absolute best, but nothing comes close when Iím slightly off. I can never help but look at shiny chrome sets on eBay, but I know deep down that this is the set thatís going to bring my handicap down, as proved with my first club victory this year.

Wedges - Titleist SM5 52* & 58* - Dynamic Gold S400

Shots around the green are really one of my strongest points of my game so I have to have wedges I love to look at and am comfortable with those shots first and foremost. For my set makeup I could probably do with starting at a 50* so that might happen when I replace these but for now I have no complaints at all. The M Grind on the 58* is really what keeps me with the Vokeys.

Putter - Scotty Cameron X7M - 35Ē

This is actually the second time Iíve had the X7M in the bag, but a combination of this one being fit properly and the realisation that having a Scotty doesnít automatically mean youíll putt better has certainly shaved some strokes off since this went in the bag. The greens are still really good at my course and I have seen an obvious imorovment in the speed control I have with this putter over my previous gamer.
I still have 2 Odyssey #7ís as backups as they are the ultimate shape for me but they canít keep up with my Scotty for now.

Balls - Taylormade Tour Preferred X

The Tour Preferred X is my main gamer through the year. When balls start getting lost in the fairways due to leaves is when I switch them out for the DT Trusoft. The X is just awesome from the driver and nothing has come close to it for wind performance which is very important at my course. Durability is significantly better than the old V1X I used to play. Just before the season finished I did try out the new V1X and I did like it so I have a couple dozen laying around but I donít think theyíll replace the TM just yet. Also a quick note about the DT Trusoft, what a ball! Iíd say apart from greenside spin, this ball is really solid, spin everywhere else is fantastic for what it is.

Misc Items

I use the Bushnell Pro X7 with slope, no complaints at all and no reason to upgrade, I love using the larger rangefinders. Scotty Cameron Pitch mark repairer and the A-Line ball marker from Groovefix. I do have the Linefix 360 line marker but Iíve moved away for linking up my putts that way so doesnít get much use.

That's a very solid bag! I think the TM TP5 and TP5X will now be selling for $39.99 a dozen from here on out.

Enjoy Portugal!

Is there a reason that you carry 13 clubs instead of 14?

Mizuno JPX 900 Hybrid 20*
Ping i25 4-P
Ping Glide 50*

Love the G25 with the tour stiff shaft. I've got the 17* and it's an absolute rocket launcher.

The G25 hybrid is still one of my all time favorites.  Really should repurchase one and put it in the bag.  Everything I've tried since then has had hot streaks but then I end up hating.

Up to this point I’ve never really had the need for a 14th club to be honest, my gaps are great up the top end and I like to avoid confusion with wedges
I will be looking at getting a 50, 54, 58 wedge setup this year though, the new irons have left a slightly larger gap between the wedge and 52
