Disrespect?  Honesty?  No big deal? Media stirring the pot?

Who is stirring the pot here?

Article speaks for itself, put the remarks in context.  Clearly not disrespect, no reason to raise that question. Edit:  looks like you weren't meaning to raise that question.

Jack has said a zillion times he watches little if any golf and takes little interest in the game any more, been that way for a long time - life is about the grandkids, other business things, fishing, you name it.

No surprise he isn't earmarking the TV Guide if Tiger happens to be playing.

Guys tells the truth, folks on here make snide remarks.  And if he said he was hanging on every shot, press would be all over him every time Tiger played. Can't win, but always classy, period.

But why does he desperately want to dial back the ball, if he says:

"...I don't watch anybody play golf." ?

:busted2:

Probably because he thinks it's what's best for the game. The famous concession, it was his idea for mainland Europe to be included in the Ryder Cup.He has hosted an event for over 40 years, will have probably designed over 500 courses by the time he has stopped.

Who is more qualified to speak on this topic?

The idea that he wants the ball changed to preserve his record is just nonsense.

I'm sure Jack still watches the majors and Memorial but might have better things to do than watching the Hero World Challenge. But it does seem like the reporter caught him off-guard judging by the article.

Its not a matter of qualified, its more about perspective in the discussion of dialing the ball back.

Jack is a player...not a fan.  That should provide all the context that is needed.  He obviously keeps up with the game but isn't glued to his tv every Thursday waiting on the next tournament.

It's not news that Jack doesn't watch golf "It's like watching paint dry" he has said.  Tiger has even said that he doesn't watch golf.

congrats to Jack ,  I could care less if Tigger ever teed it up again in his life.  He made golf from a quiet game to a juggernaut where people yell half way across a golf course and act like idiots.  These same idiots would never have stepped on a golf course years ago.  It was called cow pasture pool and made fun of by lots of people.  It was perfectly acceptable.  1998 was the year all the idiots came to play.  that was the year I went from semi public or public courses to private country clubs with a hefty fee.   keep the riff raff out.   i dont care what nationality you are,  just follow the rules like it was done in Bobby Jones era.   Not that Mashed potato crap.
So Tiger is responsible for yelling and the mashed potato yelling. That is quite a stretch to blame that on Tiger and Jack said he does not watch any golfer anymore.
This also does not have anything to do about being a liberal or conservative. The thread should have been locked after that comment, this is a golf site and should not be turned into a left or right talking points.

Actually he never mentioned Left/Right or politics.

Jack is getting up there in age and doesn't feel the need to pander I'm guessing. I bet it's the same Tiger questions over and over again. It would probably annoy anyone. Grumpy or not he's paid his forward I'm sure he has other interests to pursue. The Media on the other hand needs a reality check. This Country is overrun with entitled liberal whiners looking for anything to flame and complain about. It's getting so old already...BB

which part of no political comments don't you understand?

That and most of the whining these days are not coming from where Big Ben thinks they are.  This post will probably self destruct.

He wants to dial back the ball because he's built over 100 golf courses and he can't go back and lengthen every one of them.  Why would you spend 100s of millions of dollars to make the courses suit the ball when you can make the ball suit the courses for a fraction of the cost.  He's speaking as a golf course designer more so than a player.

I don't believe Jack doesn't watch golf, especially when his grandson is playing.

As for his comments on ball rollback, he's a course designer, it's in his best interest and the clients he built courses for to push for a rollback.

Jack probably isn’t interested in watching Jordan, DJ, or Justin either. I would think the only time he might be interested in watching golf would be during the Memorial because he is host. At 77 the last thing on earth he should be interested in is watching golf. I also hope Tiger stays healthy and can play golf, but also could care less about following him.

Just another example of today’s media creating news instead of reporting it. Biased Narrative spouters  rather than news readers..

I respect the Bear's opinion but watching The Hero leaves me with impression that 2018 may become the best year to watch golf in a very very long time.

So Jack doesn’t like to spend his time watching golf on TV. Why is this a big deal?  Jacks a doer not a watcher by nature.

i am sure he's seen enough already...arguably, the best golf ever played on the planet..when Tiger was at his best. right now, watching Jack on PNC...he is showing his age.. i see why he would be irritable.  New hips, joints, nto being able to hit out of your shadow would make anyone grumpy... hey.. he smiled when his grandson made a birdie...if he makes it to pro golf,, Nickalus would watch...by then, there would be not much more to do, or he can do

I think jack was just in a bad mood that day. Prolly had a toothache or lost a big game of bridge to the gang at Del Boca Vista or something.

LOL Del Boca Vista! I heard he's got some scheme to make extra money with vintage trench coats :)

If I had Jack's wealth, home on water, boat in back yard, golf courses at my disposal.......does anyone seriously think I'd be watching golf on television?  Sheesh....

What, if you rich you dont watch golf on tv?

Jacks like 80, what he doing? Riding dirt bikes and wake jumping on his jet ski.

Rich people do the same crap on sunday we all do.

Stare into the fridge, wonder if the olives are still good, put on tv, and flip back and forth between golf and Predator.

"Gonna have me some fun" ; )

Jack was being dismissive of Tiger in a jerkish way, then realized how it might of sounded and decided to do some damage control.  He claims his tv is always on but he doesn't watch golf, I don't believe that for a second, especially if they are playing a course he was involved with.

What the media says someone said...
"I hate golf!"

But the part the cut out really sort of changes things....
"I hate golf in the rain when I have a cold!"

That's pretty much how they go about reporting now. Take a small part of what is said, selectively highlight it and run with it as if it is the whole statement.

Sad.....

Amen Jim, amen. Cherry pick the quote to suit your narrative...facts/truth are irrelevant.
